Thank you for a good walthrough, and a very reasonable review of this great hardware.

Nice video - you can make your own server using a reasonable spec PC and raid cards, or buy an old CCTV NAS such as a Wavestore Granite and re-load Windows on the boot drive.
BUT for $400 this is a lot of storage space at low cost - amazing value if you want a huge NAS setup on your LAN.
Nice to see you Pilot Reel.

Great video with lots of useful information. One small suggestion, you are very careful and clear in your delivery of the model and part numbers, and it would be super helpful to add those details to the video description. Additionally, I really appreciate the link to the Ebay Store, and it would have been even more useful to have a direct link to the model that you are showing here. Thanks for the excellent info, and well thought out video. It is really nice to hear all the thoughts that went into the buying decision. As a novice I wouldn't know to look out for those things.

I am pretty novice myself but I'm glad you found it useful. Our work, memories and entertainment are quickly becoming data that we ultimately have to store and protect. Hopefully as I sort out how to do this for myself, my reviews and tutorials will continue to help others on their journey.

theserverstore is legit. They're selling this thing empty for 199 + shipping. I just swapped out my node 804 case to support more than 8 hard drives with it. I fried my PDB on day 2 by hooking EPS to PCI-E (I know, I'm dumb...), they took care of me with a reduced cost replacement. Also, FYI, when theserverstore shipped my gear, FedEx said it was coming from MET in Dallas. I think they're the same company.

Information on the RAID controller it came with would be very useful.

HI - Looking at the specs for the BPN-SAS2-846EL1 backplane manual seems to indicate that it supports SAS/SATA up to 6Gb/s. Could it be that the HBA controller card on the motherboard you reviewed only supported 3 Gb/s? You never mentioned what model number that LSI controller was... I suspect that is your 3Gb limit. My $0.02

Preparing a new tutorial about my office network as a whole. I will be testing over a 10G connection to see if I am in fact seeing 6G throughput over the backplane. I will post what LSI controller is installed in this unit and include it in the description. Thank You for your productive comment. So far I have only seen speeds of 200MB through the array.

@@pilotreel5667 I think the backplane can do 24Gbps total. But SAS2 is 6Gbps, i.e. 6Gbps per drive max.

Great detailed video. I'm looking at getting one myself shortly.
Can you list which one you got? The motherboard has a built in HBA, not sure if they're using that for some of the models they sell.
