    I could never bring myself to buy the Go2 but I bought this immediately. They absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. Insta360 really needs to start focusing on image quality now across their entire product line and I would be inclined to buy more of their products.

    I didn't see this coming, the pod turning it into a vlogging camera. Brilliant.
    I think the size is limiting the resolution increases and other desired features. The technology is probably just not there yet. The next camera might have everything we desire.
    Still, this is a fabulous bit of tech.

    You’re the first creator I’ve seen after the embargo ended today, that mentioned the range is tiny for the link to the pod. Well done.
    That range is ridiculous. And, an ‘action cam’ that doesn’t have 4K in 2023? Damn. Slight miss for me. Don’t understand why they kneecapped it like this.

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  11 місяців тому +1

      I reckon it was too difficult to increase the battery life and go to 4K in such a small camera without it overheating, so they chose battery life over resolution. Or maybe they're holding the 4K for the next one. Just a guess.

    • @Chuck8541
      @Chuck8541 11 місяців тому

      @@Roos-Reviews Yeah, most likely that’s the case.
      But we know that with all our camera gear. 4K mode anything - will always kill the battery and heat it up quicker.

    Sorry to hear of your injuries! Anyway - as soon as I saw you had reviewed this new little device, I ignored the rest, 'cos I know you review honestly and comprehensively. And wittily!
    I have to admit that I probably won't jump at this. I use the Go 2 (the second one I bought, having destroyed the first one under the wheels of a car after it fell 50 feet onto concrete) almost always just on its own, relying heavily on the horizon levelling, and it seems that this new one only offers slightly higher resolution if one dispenses with the levelling - which wouldn't suit my particular use cases. I can see in some shots it is still a bit prone to motion artifacts (eg when you were walking in the woods). Finally, while I appreciate the new base is still pretty small, it's not quite so pocketable as the old one, and the Go 2 is so wide angle that I don't miss a screen. And in my uses I don't run out of space or battery normally. Still, good luck to Insta360 with this one, and I'm sure it will be ideal for some people, if not for me. Great review (which I watched on my VR headset).

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  11 місяців тому

      Thanks Peter,
      Yes, those are all very good and well-considered points. I think this is a camera for people who haven't owned the previous Go cams. It's a great time to jump in now, but if one already has the 2, the incentive to upgrade might not be there for some people. For me the longer continuous recordings and the preview screen make a world of difference as I do like to check how the shot's going to look when placing the camera and I don't like using camera apps. You're right, the case is now larger and more bulky than before. I definitely don't forget it's in my pocket now. I'm working on a Go3 vs Go2 video at the moment and it's looking like it will be another case where the winner isn't as obvious as I would have expected. Also, the Action2, with all of its improvements since launch, is back in the tiny-cam race. I wonder how you feel about your Action 2 compared to your Go2. Do you use one more than the other?

    • @Ozpeter
      @Ozpeter 11 місяців тому

      @@Roos-Reviews Well, a few weeks ago my son, his wife and 3 under-6 girls (!) came to my city and I spent as much time with them as I could. I shot some footage with each of the X3, Go 2, Pocket 2 and Action 2. Each has its strengths. For instance at the hotel swimming pool the Action 2 worked well both above and below the water (with screen module then detached of course!). The Pocket 2 worked well in an extended shot where the one-year-old wanted to join in with a busker in the street. The Go 2 and X3 were my preferred cameras because with them, you can concentrate on enjoying the moment while still creating a momento of the occasion without being glued to a viewfinder. And my point is - for me, the viewfinder and larger base of the Go 3 would actually inhibit my normal use of such a camera, so it's not worth it to me. But for people who don't have this silly collection of small cameras, maybe the Go 3 will be good as it could fulfil various roles. Looking forward to your next video! (Did you see Philip Bloom's comments on FB?)

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  11 місяців тому

      I'm not very familiar with Philip, but I searched for his FB because of your comment. The gist I get is that he dislikes insta360 paying some creators (not me) for sponsored content, but accepts payments for such content himself, though in the end he declined the paid Go3 deal because he dislikes the camera. He has a preproduction model plagued with issues that he had for months before launch. He thinks the quality of the footage is extremely poor, the audio is improved, the price is too high, he wishes they'd stayed with the clamshell design and he recommends we watch his sponsored X3 review because he feels he was ridiculously creative with it. And he refers to the large number of videos that are released about these cameras at launch, like mine for example, as "UA-cam vomit", but his are the ones to watch. Does that about sum it up?
      I can say that my model appears to still use radio link even when hard connected, but it works a lot better than Philip's, by the sound of things. I will ask them about this update in which it uses hard data connection rather than wireless. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

      @@Roos-Reviews An interesting summary of the PB post! Generally I respect his views (while not necessarily agreeing with them) - his original Go 2 review was lengthy, comprehensive and analytical and generally approving, which surprised me as I expected him to be a bit of an upmarket kind of user. I think he may be thinking along the same lines as me, and perhaps you, that the Go 3 has more appeal for those who don't have a Go 2 nor a slew of other small cameras. His comments about the prototype giving problems were a bit impatient perhaps. Anyway, he's a great cat lover, so that's the most important thing (!).

    I mount it in odd places to record short action clips at 50fps and reframe in post. 99% of the time I would be using freeframe mode, which apparently I already have as Pro mode on my Go2, even the resolution is the same.. And my Go2 fits in my jeans’ coin pocket. Pff.. sticking to my Go2.

    that night stabilization mode is ridiculous. i wonder if its software and potentially available for the go2

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  11 місяців тому

      My best guess is that it's increasing the shutter speed, hence the darker results. It may be doing other things to eradicate the smudging, but shutter speed seems to be a significant factor, I'm guessing. You can improve the night stabilisation of the Go2 by putting it into manual exposure and increasing the shutter speed. You need to increase the ISO too to compensate, but not so much that the noise is terrible. And of course, using a low frame rate of 30 or 24fps is necessary too.

    • @Roos-Reviews
      @Roos-Reviews  11 місяців тому +1

      I'm someone who would attempt to replace the battery myself, but finding the right shape and size could be difficult. I think the vast majority of buyers won't have the skills or knowledge or interest to replace it should it stop functioning during their ownership. There are tens of millions of pairs of Airpods in Landfills. These are disposable tech products with very limited lifespans because of the glued-in batteries and it's quite a serious problem.

    • @markifi
      @markifi 11 місяців тому

      (i promise i'm not just disagreeing for the sake of it)@@Roos-Reviews the airpods are quite a bit differrent as it's almost like a hygene item. even if we can't find the batteries, these cameras are good enough to be put on quadcopters as a naked camera (housing removed, power from the big pack on the remote controlled aircraft). they could also be used as stationary cameras on the end of a cable if the company used a method to transfer video which someone in the open source community could figure out. it's just the matter of whether or not people are still interested to have this kind of image quality 5 years from now. also, the innards of airpods could still be used as a diy wireless speaker interface perhaps. i also prefer items that have longer shelf lives but wouldn't worry much about 200 euro headphones and 470 euro cameras as these will have a second life. it doesn't matter that the first user has no skills or will to do it if they still have value when broken. it's like old german cars; they get driven to a million miles somewhere else. maybe they won't be and i'm too optimistic

    No sd card slot. Lame.
    A big ass exposed screen. Lame.
    A big dumb mount. Lame.
    No 60 fps. Lame.
    The camera in the pod is now not pocket friendly because the camera is super exposed and will get messed up with keys and sand or just fall out if you put it in a bag. LAME. Oh and it's an extra exposed screen I have to worry about dropping. Lame
    I think this is a big step back for the go line. Vloggers didn't want this. Action bros didn't want this. The "airpods" case was the perfect solution. It just needed an sd card slot. 😢. Oh and now its wayy more expensive. RIP go 3 W action pod.
