Diablo 50 mile ride

Two Diablo Rouge and a Boa Ski take a 50 mile ride on the trails around Naubinway Michigan in February of 2009. What started out to be a pleasure ride ended up being a test of endurance and a whole lot of fun. The sleds and owners were in town for the Top of the Lake snowmobile show in support of the Top of the Lake Snowmobile Museum.

Started snowmobiling in the early 70s, this reminds me of those days, any snowmobile trip was a adventure, trails weren't groomed or marked, and it was inevitable one or more machine would act up or break down, but we always had fun.

I remember back in the early 70's sitting behind my Dad on a 340 Panther, Mom and Sister in the Pelican sleigh behind us, was lots of fun

Yes. I had a used snowmobile in the 70's I paid 150 bucks for. A Yamaha Exciter. 5 friends of mine had sleds too,and we would go up to Northern Wisconsin and Michigan and hit the trials. Great memories.

We had 2 Bolands, Diablo Ruge one without a strip had 16hp the other with the stripe had somewhere around 20hp. Those snowmobiles were smooth riding and very maneuverable. But when my parents passed away, everything went up for sale, and the snowmobiles got sold without my permission. Well, I hope some father and son are enjoying riding them together like Dad and I did.

There was a fellow that had saved one of these old machines that he bought new. He'd break it out for the local snowmobile rallies occasionally here in the 1970's in SW Montana. Pretty cool. Probably comparable to the Yamaha Nitro of the early 2000's in the powder.

Jerry the Hus Ski was the forerunner of the Bolens. It was a yellow unit in the same style as the Diablo.
