Ford Transit vans have long been the automotive workhorse of choice for lots of smaller businesses in UK, plumbers, electricians, painters etc.
That they now have a pure electric version of the Transit, I find a great positive

I just traded in an aging and soon to be out of warranty Tesla Model S 90D for a Sprinter Diesel Campervan with 10 kwh of house battery. Seeing some of the electric vans coming out of China, yea I am sort of concerned that I went back to ICE with diesel. At the same time, the range isn't even close to optimal, there's no where to charge in rural areas where I live in Canada and I'd have a hard time towing anything or traveling with a heavy load. Hopefully these vans take another 20 years to be a real evolution. I know that a lot has happened in 8 years since I first steped into my Tesla, but there are still a ton of ICE cars out there.

That's what I was thinking! This would be a killer awesome conversion van.! There's even enough space to bring along some solar panels too!

This is my van life dream vehicle. With solar, 0 gas 0 maintenance. That big price tag gets smaller and smaller when you factor those in. Thate being said its just an electric motor with a shell, why dont we have cheaper options? Maybe becausee the industry is so new and its old car companies with their old expensive philosophies that are the only ones making them? I dunno, i wish we were allowed more options, bring in the chinese EV's, is that why we dont have any here(Canada/USA)? we're protecting American companies from competition, and they turn around and give 100k vans... ugh... free the market!

If you can find a gas Hummer, there is a man in Canada that will convert it to electric with 750 miles of range.
      Cost is $125,000.

Very nice vans!! They’re in England as well. The first delivery was made in time for the Enfield Pageant of Motoring last year. Now let’s have the fully electric van converted into a camper rather than the hybrid Transit Custom.

If battery gets cheaper I think they can sacrifice some of the roof, like 5-8inches for additional battery packs just so it can boost range by at least 100-150km

This is a good van for a good price. I'm considering buying one but I think i can wait another year or two. I hope they can get to volume production and start making money on these. Fingers crossed they don't develop any weird problems.

There is always going to be growing pains until EVs hit the optimum point. The speed that is happening though i see is getting ever faster! I still love the sight and sound of Spitfire in the air, a steam engine puffing and blowing, the sound of a 60's American V8! The looks of a white open top E-type jag. But i would wouldn't i being a 50's child! It's not our fault! But i always dreamed of electric cars since being a delivery boy on breads vans! The electric version was so good compared to the hot noisy diesel in the cab van, i didn't realise then my dream would take 50 years to come real. When the oldies like me have gone the great grand kids will love evs it's just their time.

Electric cars/vans only improve when ppl buy them, and it becomes economically viable for manufacturers. Hopefully enough ppl do so they go further on smaller batteries. Hope they don't disappear like electric cars disappeared when first introduce back in the mid 1800;s & reintroduced in the1970s.

It’s still a low volume vehicle so building it by a small team is cheaper than the cost to tool and staff an assembly line. I’m sure robots are used to make the body in white though to save some costs.

Given these vans do a lot of last might deliveries in urban and suburban environments in the US - this will improve air quality. For EVs to really take hold - they need to address these use cases.

😂 i purchased a nice new diesel transit custom last month the dealer was desperate to sell me one of these it was hilarious i said "what's the range" he said "200 miles" i said what about full of tools you know like every trades man had in his van he said "oh er probably the same " 😂
Unless you work in the same place and do very little miles these are pointless for instance last week i did a job in Liverpool so 130 there - then what am i supposed to do hope they have a charger 😂
No trades man will spend more on a van thats worse than the the one they already have & thats why these will fail

Have a big US Postal Service contract which presumably will include charging infrastructure on site. Tesla could buy Canoo out of bk and start competing with Ford and Rivian straight away...as could General Motors actually. Tesla and Toyota can't get out of their own way at the moment which is a godsend for Ford and GM as they need to take market share from others in order to grow in the US auto market currently which is completely saturated with product that is still *WAY* overpriced for current economic situation. Still waiting on a full rollout of the 2025 Model Year Ford Explorer as well which is the single most important vehicle in the North American automotive market. 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E is going to kick the Tesla Model Y in the teeth big time as well it has vastly improved. I still predict the best selling single model vehicle in the World by the end of this Calendar Year 2024 will be the Ford Maverick passing by the Toyota Rav4, Honda CRV and Tesla Model Y despite these other 3 vehicles still being clearly superior to the Ford Maverick just not what buyers want right now for various reasons.

Very inefficient @1.79mi/kWh, when the Tesla Semi is getting 1.9mi/kWh- an astronomically larger vehicle.
Though it does make up for this with faster charging- I get about 72miles in 15 min DC fast charging while below 57% in my Kia Niro EV vs the E-transit 67mi, best case scenario. There are definitely enough chargers in the US, especially Level2. I’d like to see Tesla or Rivian remake the Van to be north of 2.2mi/kWh, mainly for price reasons. Then you can add cheaper/slower charging speeds and get the same miles per minute, while being cheaper to insure-for consumers due to less battery while being cheaper to produce.
No EV should be less than 2mi/kWh, it’s wasteful. Teslas get 4-6mi/kWh while China EVs are getting over 8mi/kWh.
Atleast Ford is trying! Lower floors, less battery, lighter frame, & less cost should be the plan for 2025 & beyond.

E Transit nice to drive compare to Diesel Van. ISSUE is lots of mechanical problems .I did have 7 of them for my Courier business from January 2023 all Brand new. After 10 k miles it is nightmare constantly in garage.7 vans breakdown 10x in 15 months from btand new.
not starting engine failure 5x times, vacum brakes pumps failure after 30 k miles 5x times, overheating parking brake flames 3x times,
Engine not starting due vacum pump electric failure 2x time
2024 I have been without a 1 van on road for 5 months out of 6 . 1 gets repaired another breakdown.
Lease not cheap so my profit losses just for brakedowns as Ford garages takes their time to do the repairs is around 50 000£ because 1 is off road basically all the time.
After 15 months from brand new 7 vans / 1 out of road for repairs 10 months. Absolutely hate Ford now . 50 000£ my business lost instead could have bought 2x brand new diesel for that price 🎉🎉 EV for life , Green Dream😂

An e-transit connect would make more sense.
There is no way Ford lost $120k for each ev it sold! lol who believes that nonsense?
Finally, tax incentive is not in anyway the same as the vehicle actually being $7500 cheaper.
That might be true for a big commercial operation, but definitely not for most consumers.

160ml range is a lie, more like 115mls EMPTY. Remember their range calculations are from flat track controlled environments so 160 is utter nonsense. Add a roof rack = less, add a hill = less, god forbid you put anything in it = less. And please don't con people into thinking the bigger battery is a benefit. Nothing can be more than the sum of its parts, if its got a bigger battery it takes more electric and longer to fill the battery so all your longer time driving will still get wasted sitting like a numpty at a charging point waiting for one of these planet killers to drive a couple of miles further. And then you have to take the catastrophic depreciation into account for your business, so not only are you killing the planet your killing your own ability to feed your family. This was nonsense 100yrs ago and it still is, stop pedalling nonsense.
