Hey everyone, thanks for watching this video! I’m currently looking to make videos like this for other companies. Let me know which company you’d like to see covered, also let me know if you’d like more info - would benefits be useful?
It was eye opening. I am planning on turning this into a weekly series to talk about the different companies salaries and benefits. Facebook actually pays more than Google but I’m not sure how I’d feel about working there given the negative press they’ve received.
Great Video, I had a question does Google make it easy to get jobs in California if you live in Canada. Will they assist in getting a work visa? Currently a year 4 BC student at Waterloo and Im going for my masters and I am working for google apart of CO-OP. Just asking because cost of living in Canada has gone up a lot in the last 5 years and google salaries havent
I watched your Apple software engineer vid, awesome stuff! Looking to make a switch in careers and I already started coding for beginners courses. Are degrees required for these types of positions or can you be hired being self taught or learning from online courses?
You can be hired for these types of positions but I'd make a couple projects first or do an internship with another company for a while to get some experience on your resume.
Something I wonder is if salaries tend to grow, stay the same or shrink. I can totally see how salaries for SEs will go down a lot once the supply of good/great engineers becomes saturated. Currently it is still a problem to find experienced devs because there are more new dev jobs each year than there are new devs. I think it is comparable to the mechanical engineer/physics engineer salaries that used to be extremely high like modern SE salaries but today in 2021 the market is close to saturated and so salaries have shrunk down a ton.
These pay levels are insane compared to the rest of the market. I guess they have to pay a lot because they are in San Francisco? Anyone want to join our tech company and work in Andorra? The cost of living and taxes are super cheap and it's like a large ski resort.
This may be a personal question but how old are you/ what is your age range? I would like to know approx how many years of exp it would take to get to your level which I believe is staff swe engineer.
About the same as the other entry level software engineers. For entry level engineers salary ranges tend to be somewhat narrow, although if you are getting into a more specialized field like AI/ML research then you might be able to command a higher salary. So maybe $10,000 - $20,000 more than the average; honestly the number isn't enough to get a PHD just for the salary increase.
@@CodyEngelCodesmy job is mainly backend developer and I do code. But how do I justify the career switch (especially in interview)? Could you please give some suggestions?
hello im thinking to be a software engineer and pursuing it but do i need to be genius to become software engineer? and also does it matter where school you graduated?
Before, it’s impossible to know what someone’s after tax pay will be as they will have different deductions and may live in another area with different tax laws.
Don’t forget everyone, their are guys that started as plumbers and now make millions running small businesses that install pipes and toilets, all over the country!
Taxes are different for every region and given deductions are specific to the person, they are going to be different for each individual as well. I can do another video talking specifically about taxes and how to optimize your income as a software engineer if that's something others would be interested in.
Im more interested in the technical day to day actually any ideas if you'll do a run down on what they actually do and work on? Sometimes im a little scared to take on these roles because of the pressure that comes with it.
I wouldn't be able to talk about the day to day in super granular detail but I would rather talk about technology than salaries so I do plan to combine these two worlds together in the future. In those videos I could see it being valuable to talk about the day to day life of an engineer at the company so I can work on finding people for brief interviews.
At Google the first 36% vests after the first year so you can sell it after that. Then it vests monthly for the next 3 years at different rates, 28% in total year two, 20% year three, and 16% year four.
@@CodyEngelCodes does this mean that in year 2 if you were still an l3 you would get 28% plus another 36%? Or do you only get the (100%) stock bonus once per four years?
I personally like Scala. Since it's built on the JVM, it has a lot if similarities (syntactically and OOP) to Java. I really love the use of Options and Maybe in Scala (I think Java recently added Options which is nice). My team uses PlayProxy as our API library which has it's ups and downs, but overall it gets the job done. I like Scala overall, because I love Java. So if you don't like Java, you might not like Scala
Interns are usually paid fairly similar to full time entry level engineers at the company. The difference is they only work for 3 months and thus the total comp is lower.
@@salladiallo9766 That's not really an internship. It's a residency program. The compensation is almost what you would make as an entry level engineer, except (as far as I recall) that you don't get stock grants and bonus, so your TC would be lower at the end of the year. Still, a phenomenal deal. I know people who have gone through it, and loved the experience.
Fuck me, I dont make enough. I am a lead software engineer at a university in Canada and only make about 127k :(. I'd be happier with $600k ESPECIALLY USD. lol
If you do a google search in India or Asia a google software dude makes a fraction of what you say, so your video heading is misleading, a google search does a better job than watching the one sided posts of yours which are outright misleading
indians make fraction because there knowledge and skills are fractions see Reports on Indian software engineers 97% employee are not even fit to get a job
These numbers are for the US. International companies pay very well in India too, but of course, there are cost of living factors to take into account.

All about supply and demand, with that said I don't see the supply catching up with the demand anytime soon.

In California 43.3% tax will be applied on $500k so you'll get nearly $280k in CALIFORNIA

Too many to count (but really this was the first in the series before I started talking about benefits). They are about on par with Facebook though.
