How much does Apple pay software engineers? When it comes to salaries for software engineers, it can be difficult to find accurate information. In this video I talk about the salaries for software engineers at Apple. We'll talk about salaries for entry level software engineers, senior software engineers, staff software engineers, and even principal software engineers. Not only do we talk about salaries but we also talk about the benefits that software engineers at Apple get.
Some background for those unaware of Apple. This is one of the richest companies in the world and largely employs iOS software engineers that typically work with objective-c and swift. They also employ software engineers working on macOS along with Apple silicon.
If you have any questions about Apple software engineer salaries or benefits then let me know in the comments below.

What do i need to do to work here. No experience willing to train :)
such a small channel that has better content than many 1M+ youtubers
Thanks, I really appreciate it. I started this channel because I wasn’t a huge fan of the content out there for software engineers (it has gotten better since I started, thankfully) so this comment means a lot! 🙂
I disagree with that assessment. A lot of 1M+ UA-cam channels have actual content, at least what I watch. I'm not knocking on this video because it's good
That's because not amount of fantasy can beat reality, i.e. experience.
100%agreed let's recommend the video to our friends
People - this is how you do vlogs! straight up content.. not a clickbait
People -- this is how you do comments. Thank you, really appreciate the feedback, my goal is to be clickbaity enough so people see the video, but I want to also deliver on what is promised without wasting too much time.
This is due his beginning, at beginning you got ideas. When you reach 1M maybe difficult to remember everything you already done, plus the lack of ideas. Im just speculating…
I appreciate you for all of the hard work that you put into these videos! I SMASHED THE LIKE BUTTON!
Thanks I really appreciate it :D
New subscriber to your channel, I like how you go directly to the content and no fillers but well informed material
Hi came over from your tiktok and really enjoyed the vid. It’s interesting how much thought goes behind paying an employee. I am currently a second year CS student in Chicago, so seeing your journey is pretty sick!
Welcome to the channel! Happy that you enjoyed the TikTok content enough to check out the long form stuff. Chicago is an awesome place to start your career and the next two years will probably fly by as you’re finishing up your degree.
Hi, I work at Apple and ICT means “Individual Contributor Technical”. Aside from that, thanks for the great video!
Awesome channel!! Very informative
very good information to know thanks for the video !
Well researched. Great vid.
Thank you for your research dissemination. Your results got me thinking that working for Apple would really pay off.
I just found out your Chanel, and by far the best content i saw on youtube from my subscription.(sorry for my english, i am french)
Awesome! Thanks for making this video. Liked and Subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
Well I know 15 years ago my cousin who worked for Apple as a lead systems engineer for their broadcast software division was making north of $150k plus stock options before he left to work for Fox Broadcasting for north of $200k a year. He and his staff were brought into Apple when they acquired the company he was working for that built control systems for television stations and networks. Mind you at the time the first iPhone hadn't even been announced let alone released. Mind you three years earlier he had been working at a rural TV station that was paying him less than $50k a year to be their IT guy and they refused to give him a $5k raise so he applied to work for one of their system vendors who gave him a $25k raise and Apple doubled his salary there when they bought out the company, so he was beyond elated with the pay increases he had received.
That’s insane, talk about growth ! Kudos to him , that is awesome
Really awesome video. 🔥🔥
Need more videos like this !!
Thanks, happy to hear you enjoyed the video. I have more in the pipeline.
Quality stuff bro !
Hey Cody great video, just had one question about the stock grant. I hear stock being described this way in many public companies, and would like some clarity. Taking the entry level example, the stock grant is 24K/year. Does this mean that you are given 24K worth of shares in your first year, meaning that if the stock price were to double, your year's worth of stock grant would be worth 48K?
Yes that is correct. You are granted the shares at the start of your employment. I have a more recent video about RSUs that is worth a watch, it goes over how I nearly doubled my RSU cash value by doing nothing.
You're awesome! Thanks for the video
You're welcome!
This is very informative. Can you make videos for other fields as well? Like quality manager and so on.
Thanks, I probably won't be making videos outside of tech though, that's not really my niche.
Thank you for being honest and it is fun to know the benefits of the tech industry. I work as a quality manager in a manufacturing company and it is insane to even imagine these numbers. Your content is straightforward and great and it is fun to watch.
Hey man...
Loved the content on your channel
Have watched 5-6 of just today and fell in love with them

could you make a video on salary analysis of Nvidia
now i know the idea might not seem that interesting but trust me people will definitely like it

Glad you enjoyed it!
Can you make a video relating to cyber security ? Great video I subscribed
I would love to know more about the Roth ira and the 401K and to know what it is about and how does it affect an employee. btw thanks for the videos its great content
a roth ira is after tax dollars that you invest on your own. I think the limit is 6500 dollars a year for people under the age of 55 and the growth is tax free. which means that after you retire and want to pull that money out you dont need to pay taxes on it
a 401k is a benefit. where esentially you invest through your comapany it come directly out of your paycheck, usually the company has a match which means that if you lets say put 5 % of your paycheck and say its 1000 dollars then youre employer can match you and also put 1000.. essentially free money..
usually reccomended to invest in your 401k up until the match then go for roth then back to 401k
401k backdoor is bypassing the limits by putting money into a Roth 401k and then immediately transferring that money before it earns anything into a Roth IRA. If you try to do this when you earn money in the Roth 401k or from a traditional 401k you pay taxes penalties. This pretty much allows you to put the 6000 limit into a Roth IRA in addition to the 401k limit which is 38500k per year into an account that grows tax free. Pretty much something only the super rich can afford. It's not more common because not all companies offer/match a Roth 401k and even fewer companies allow you you to transfer money out of a 401k while you work there. Roth 401k follows the same tax rules as a Roth IRA.
the limit is lower or 0 if you make enough money. For those people, they can contribute even more than $6K annually through the Roth 401k
Here we see a man starting on his UA-cam financial education journey
So informative video 😃😃
Thanks ☺️
Please do a video on the Roth's you mentioned
Helped a ton, but please do apple electrical engineers too

Would really like to hear about the ESPP
It's on the list, just need to find the time to research, write, film, and edit now.

What languages should you know beside swift and objective c in order to work for Apple?
What’s the most common way to get education for a engineer at apple? I’ve seen boot camps, Certifications, Degrees ect ? Thanks man. Love all the informative vids. Keep it up 👍
Getting a computer science degree issue till the best way, after that would be boot camps, certifications aren't something I'd focus on with the sole purpose of getting a job.
Yes, I would love to know about ESPP in detail
All the best thnx 4 the vedio

I’m commenting for algorithm, keep it up👍🏻
The algorithm (and myself) thank you ☺️

Could you do these for Data Science/Machine Learning Engineer jobs?
If I did, it'd be industry wide and wouldn't be specific to any one company.
superb content ...... 👍👍
Thank you so much 😀
Can you please tell where other locations of apple apart from California
i appreciate the timeline.
Great content! Thanks for providing this info available to many! I have a question regarding how the bonus works nowadays at the top Tech companies. When Tech companies mention X dollars for the bonus, what are the typical criteria for getting that bonus? Is it that you can get up to X dollars given the company is doing well AND you are the top performer (top 10%)? Or you are eligible of getting X dollars as long as you meet all your expectations at your level?
It really varies on company but the most common one I've seen is having it based on company performance. This is less overhead for managers, and when I've worked places that had a personal performance component managers would just fudge the numbers to make sure you got the full bonus.
Bonus targets are target, so if the metrics are met you'd get that full amount paid out. Companies also make it so you can exceed that number, for example if the target is 15% and the company can go up to 200% on bonuses you could receive up to 30%.
Hope that helps.
@@CodyEngelCodes It does. Thanks! I sub the channel. Keep up the good work!
Hello there! I'd like to ask, what does Apple give to their programmers? a Mac or a PC? Because Microsoft giver their programmers as I can see in some videos, and what are the specs? And thank you! ☺️
Request for
Separate video on mega back door
Roth IRA and 401
Kind regards
Those mandatory/holiday weeks off. Is that generally done in the industry?
Company shutdowns aren’t super normal in the industry but they aren’t unheard of. Paid holidays are typical though.
Killer video man! This is packed full of great info. I have a question. What exactly is a stock grant? Thanks!
Stock grants are a form of compensation where you receive company stock. The main benefit is that stock will generally appreciate faster than your base salary, as the company succeeds so do you.
Thank you for this great video as always. I am Canadian and would love to move and work in the US as a web develpoer. Do you have any useful thoughts to share?
Yes. If you want to work in the tech industry your spelling must be immaculate!
I'd be curious in learning more about the mega back door Roth IRA 🤔
I have it on the list, just need to write it and figure out how to package it up so people will watch it.
What’s that website to check out salaries? Thanks. Great video !

I would really like to know more about salaries in Australia as well.
Do they get that same stock grant every year? or just once when they start their employment or get promoted?
You can expect refreshers but it may not be as high as your original grant.
very interesting video mate. dont know if its ur like expertiese but could u do something in the regards to an electrical engineer salaries etc? like at google apple etc? thanks adam

@@CodyEngelCodes Got it, thank you anyways
either you spoke w/ an apple employee or you work there lol spot on
What about work life balance?
Does apple employees get free gadjets such as a Mac or an iphone
That’s insane. A staff engineer in my company(spirent communications)in Dallas is making 140k base salary and might get profit sharing of 5k on a good year. They give us a %10 discount on spirent stock! Such a deal!🤣
That's why companies are heading over there to set up shop.
I worked at spirent. Worst comp and product line. Hire and fire is quite common. Wireless group operates like a nepotism machine
While you could do better. Companies aren't going to pay FAANG salaries since Dallas isn't the Bay Area. While those salaries sound impressive (and they are), they are that way because of the cost of living and intense competition for top talent. I've actually seen many similar companies reach out to remote workers, offering them great salaries but it is still a great deal for them (win-win). I think over time, this will smooth out the extremes.
So wondered what qualifications and certifications each of those levels require?
Qualifications bunch of them, certifications none.
This is very informative thanks bro ,by the way am in California n my elder son age 13 into software engineering how can I get him train by apple along the way to be a full software engineer or developer
Do apple allow to work from home ?
Appreciate the efforts man !! Great work . commenting only because you are replying even after 6 months xD
Thanks Harsh ☺️
Find it so odd that I mentioned about going back to school for software engineering, now I’m going to do it.
Look at those salaries 🥺. Those are dreams for us gang in the Pacific
Turn those dreams into realities.
Living in Silicon Valley is a terrible place to live. The people I know that have come to work get tired of it and eventually take their ideas and start their own companies.
Yeah for that area. The starting salary of 150k is borline poverty. Cost of living is crazy expensive.
I left Apple in 2013, but I was getting a total of 5-1/2 weeks (including the 2 weeks shutdown in that) of vacation when I hit 5 years.
Nice, that’s good to know. So it sounds like 3-1/2 weeks after 5 years (on top of the company shutdown), that’s pretty good.
Hi mam what did you do for to get into an apple company and the main thing what we have to learn to join in apple please reply 🙏🙏🙏🙏🥲
@@thiruselvamb4350 Hi, I’ve been a software engineer specializing in Apple for a really long time. Went on a lot of interviews there (for more than a decade) before I found the right position.
@@DeirdreSM Oh my god 😮 you had tried for 10 years to get into apple mam ? I'm right mam?
Please reply 🙏🙏
@@thiruselvamb4350 Correct! Lots of people got in earlier, that’s just how long it took me.
What level can a an average SE reach at apple, google,...?
Geez I make more at CalTrain as a locomotive engineer and I have awesome medical and federal retirement. Also I didn’t have to go to college and have no debt.
That'll be true until the iTrain is released.
So I have a quick question, you mention that along with the base salary you get a bonus and a stock bonus. So after the four year vesting period is over and I have received the full stock package will I stop receiving stock bonuses forever?
Bonuses tend to be annual unless it's a one time signing bonus and then stock grants tend to refresh on a yearly basis with a new 4 year vesting schedule.
I assume it’s before taxes. The effective rate in California is around 33%?
do you unlock icloud
Any positions in GA?
can you make a video on how much AI architects would make at different tech companies ESP netflix and facebook (apple too)
is the number fixed anf sticked to the levels? even you earnrd much less than the number before?
The numbers are averages so will depend but the the salary bands are going to be around those averages, some make more others make less. For folks that are making much less money than a new job it's always best to avoid disclosing your salary because the company can and will low ball you (this is true for Apple and any other company out there).
considering these are salaries for working in cupertino they get paid peanuts
Hey Cody, I don't know if you can clarify this, but I heard that it doesn't matter what position you are at Apple. If they end up firing you or something the position you get released from "title" that will follow you is just "Apple Employee" or something super basic
Yeah I've heard the same thing I think "Associate" is what you'd be known as. I'm not sure how true it is, I feel like there could be legal ramifications with that, but I have heard the same.
How do Microsoft software engineers salaries compare?
Late to the video but if it helps anyone on the vacation. PTO goes to 15 after 3 years, and then increases by 1 day per year after until your 9th years of service (maxing at 21).
Thanks for the info!

How is it volunteering if you're getting paid to do it?
Wow super interesting. how much would the lowest level and highest level make per hour? hope you see this, thanks
Drop a video on ESPP!!🤑
Amazing research, if all of this is accurate. Please make more of these. 🙂
Thanks, I have some more in the pipeline.
Are 401k s transferable when moving from a company to another??
In @twocents they mention that some employers require to stay at least 5 years to get the benefit.
Wonder if big tech does too
It depends on the company, with Apple you are vested from day one which is fairly normal for most software companies. Honestly if you aren't vested from day one and working in tech, that's a bit of a red flag, especially if the vesting period is more than one year.
@@CodyEngelCodes thanks a lot for the clarification! 🙌
Can you please do Stanley Black and decker
Maybe..
i only clicked on this video because the thumbnail made this dude look like the white snoop dogg. i ended up staying and watching, good vid man
Can you do video about QA salary at Apple, Amazon and google please
Most of these companies hire test engineers which are generally paid fairly close to software engineers.
Can we sell the stocks or we need to hold it for years??
Once the stock vests it's yours to sell or hodl.
Interesting. My company in Atlanta offers unlimited PTO. I assumed this was a way to stay competitive and keep great talent from leaving. It surprised me to hear Apple doesn't offer unlimited PTO as well.
Unlimited PTO is only a real benefit if you take off more than 25 days a year. I made a video about this a while back, but basically unlimited PTO means you don’t accrue time off so the company owes you nothing if you leave. If you accrue PTO and leave a company they have to pay you for your unused PTO.
But 12 days of PTO is really low smh
@@CodyEngelCodes
At my last job, they started us off with 15 days and bumped us up to 20. Honestly, at the end of every year, we’d all still have 8-12 days left and basically December was a month where nothing much got done.
Unlimited PTO sounds great until reality hits: your colleagues are learning more about a new system than you are. Your colleagues are in the loop. There wasn’t a single time that I took vacation where I wasn’t checking my email to see what was going on. I think 25 days is an awesome sweet spot. You can take two two week vacations per year and still have five days to play with (obviously you still have sick days).
@@CodyEngelCodes I can tell you that Global Payments doesn't pay you for you unused PTO...
Unlimited PTO is a scam.
ICT actually stands for Individual Contributor, Technology.
This is correct.
I thought it stands for part of ' I'm Cult Technology'
In my university it does mean Information and Communication Technology. So I guess it depends where you live.
@@TheVenatore ICT is used in the context of Apple engineers. It does not matter where you live. At Apple ICT is what Richard said.
this video proves my point that despite what most people think most extremely big companies treat their employees fairly well.
I'd say this is mostly true. Look at Amazon. They treat their warehouse workers poorly and they also have some of the worst compensation and benefits for their tech workers when compared to the industry. Granted the former is treated worse than the latter but relatively speaking they are both treated fairly rough.
I would pay the people who control the most important information of my company pretty well too😂
I wonder when will I be able to reach even just the junior dev rate of Apple. Our country is not that generous when it comes to salary 😌
ahh now i want learn about software engineer
I think there is a channel on UA-cam that can help you with that 😉
Education is necessary for job or not

@@CodyEngelCodes yea broo...

They are usa salaries or canadian?
These are averages but the concentration of employees are in the US near their HQ so naturally going to be inflated if you aren’t in the same area.
Are the salaries given my cody the ones at Apple silicon???
Yes, he discussed wages in the Cupertino, CA area.
