Love these debunks 😂 Matt, what do you think of this guy - Michael Lustgarten PhD? His UA-cam handle is Conquer Aging or Die Trying: he’s basically a living n of 1 experiment…
The history of biomarkers (which Lustgarten relies on) is riddled with flaws and nobody truly understands how they work. (still, very interesting content)
Prof Kaeberlein, Could you do a podcast on your paper "ExplaiNAble BioLogical Age (ENABL Age): an artificial intelligence framework for interpretable biological age" and the updated weights for the PhenoAge calculator? When I used the updated weights/coefficients for NHANES, I got a negative age. I couldn't figure out why; I don't think I entered the numbers wrong. I got a reasonable age using the weights/coefficients for UK Biobank.
Everyone in longevity is very circumspect. They'll attack his products and actions without naming him. There is a dig in this video about being unable to sell mnm in the US. That's because of David's company asking for it to be labeled a drug instead of a supplement.
I think that's unlikely. You can evaluate Sinclair yourself by wondering if the ideas have persisted/reinforced in the literature and been built on. Most of them haven't, but that's fairly normal for science. Whether the next idea/paper will be something that changes longevity only time will tell. The issue with Sinclair for non-scientists is that he is a good salesperson and is very relatable/engaging, and the general public finds it hard to separate that from ideas and their soundness.
@gregdoucette should do a response. Maybe even walk back some of his affirmations. But it would be good for the channel if he saw this and did a response.
This whole BF% is absurd. 1. BBers throwing out insane numbers like Ronnie saying he was 0.3% 2. As noted the BB competition does not involve a BF measurement anyway. As Doucette points out re his client the person was achieving their goals but couldn’t be happy. 3. Ordinary Joes use it as another ego massaging number like how much I bench and of course they are all lying about it. 4. It doesn’t even matter and is not a particular good indicator of health or longevity within the non obese and non extreme range. As noted here adipose tissue is more important. 5. It has become a thing since the totally incorrectly named “ fitness” industry grew on the Internet. 6. It’s like people obsessing over blood pressure or cholesterol when they are basically healthy Just stop it
these body composition devices are sooo inaccurate... my at-home electrical impedance scale says 10 % body fat, a body-composition fitness business I go to has medical grade electrical impedance scale that says 16% body fat, and a DEXA scan business I frequent says 27%.... I go regularly to each of these because they all give different but useful metrics, and I get consistent readings with each method +/- 3 % for actual changes since least measurement... so I can track progress (I'm 145 pounds 6 ' 2... desperately trying to build any sort of muscle) but despite seeing improvement and trends in each of the measurements, I have no idea what actual percentage body fat I am... the DEXA scanner said the only true way to get my actual body fat percentage is to do an autopsy 😆
In the case of trying to increase your muscle mass I would really recommend avoiding any forms of scans or body comp measuring devices. Increase calorie intake and stick to a good training routine. The guy they mentioned at the very beginning (Dr Mike Israetel) has a lot of useful advice you should look at. It's important you don't get discouraged by numbers on scales and scans! Eat more train better. Good luck.
You can email pictures of yourself (front and back) to Greg Doucette and he selects some people to do a visual assessment of body fat percentage. He does that in some of his videos - check them out.
You will probably get more useful answers if you provide some basic information, such as: 1. Male or female, 2. Age, 3. How much protein (and the type and source) do you eat? 4. What what resistance exercises are you doing? Equipment? How many times a week? 5. How much running, bicycling, treadmill are you doing each day? And how hard are you breathing while doing it? 🏋🏻♀️🥩🥓 Be well! I hope it goes well for you?
You can use the US Navy Method to calculate body fat percentage. You can find the calculator online. It’s easy to use and pretty accurate. (UA-cam doesn’t allow me to provide a link.)
Am actually going to get DEXA when I scrounge up the money, and the test for scarcipenia which at 77, my insurance will cover. Also I plan to consciously “waddle jog” instead of walking to see if the slight increase in impact with this easy gait change will increase in bone mass . Your crowd doesn’t waddle jog, but do you see an increase in bone density in people who add long slow (( zone 2 )) jogging, like, perhaps training to FINISH a slow marathon . By the way, please lose the spinning helmet. It’s annoying !!! And distracting !! And your information is GREAT, and much to important to be consumed with any other things taking away people’s careful attention.
@Michael agree! I’ve heard him mention he closely monitors his UA-cam analytics and he knows what gets more views/watch time. So he ‘plays it up’. But I usually agree with his opinions on diet and exercise. - Nick
@@optispan Yeah that's unfortunately if that's what gets the clicks. He's definitely got a wealth of experience and knowledge and you can't argue that physique.
@@MichaelMerritt His own physique is no way an indicator of his intellectual capacity or ability to analyse critically. More relevant is his masters degree in Kinesiology.
Exposure to such imaging interventions accelerates rate of biological aging, and thereby achieves nothing but "reducing healthspan" under the guise of "health promotion".
Stop fear mongering. DEXA has very low radiation. Compared to the pollution you breath every day and the microplastics a few DEXAs each year are nothing.
A single DEXA scan exposes you to the same amount of radiation as just…walking around outside for a day. Or from eating 4-6 bananas. It’s ridiculous to suggest a one-time DEXA scan could reduce your life span.

Hey Matt and team: you should definitely do a reaction to Chuando Tan. He’s almost 60 and looks like he’s 35! He’s a photographer from singapore
would love if you guys did a breakdown on david Sinclair's ideas?
they dont wanna be sued lol

👍👍Great episode 👍👍
According to Don Layman, high protein diets increase organ size as well, so athletes think they put on muscle when they put on organ size instead.

Maybe the machine needs to be recalibrated if someone is on the extreme edge of the range and wants an accurate result.

Doucette is a clown.
His normal non yelling UA-cam personality is calm and enjoyable. I don’t know why he’s so loud and in your face on his channel.
