Normally no, BUT Angela works with them. Not being upfront right away just leaves her open to finding out through co-workers which is just embarrassing. While it could be forgivable, Erin will probably keep wonder what else he is keeping from her. Not a great way to start off a relationship.
Erin overreacted. During the original run of the show Erin was one of my favorites but on rewatches I really dislike her to point of her being one of my least favorites. Especially when you get to season 9

Erin is mid 20s but child like with her gullibility. They’ve shown that. She grew up in a foster care. Maybe they only had 3 dates over 3 weeks but they also see each other every day at work. She really likes Andy. This is the office, of course her reaction would be extreme. Plus it did serve for her and Michael to bond. She is has been showing for whatever reasons she really looks up to Michael.
We get to see Andy really care about her too especially with convincing everyone to bring her a gift and particularly Michael to give it a chance to get know Erin.
Yes, the key is that they *WORK WITH* Angela. If you date for three weeks you will eventually fill a partner in on previous serious relationships. But...she's in the same office, where you met, every day.
I feel Erin was justified in her reaction because this is not just some random woman in his past. This is a woman who sits five feet away from Erin everyday and had a very public and dramatic relationship in the office with. He should have given her warning

Alright let’s break this down
First things first, I agree with Chris with the working next to Angela that’s less than 10 feet away.
1. In the work space, especially an office (I work in a call center) it’s always frowned upon to date where you work (shit where you eat type shit) because of shit like this can happen. I’ve seen it before too.
2. As crazy as this may sound but hear me out…dating moves A LOT faster when you work with them. You see them everyday, flirt, get to know them, etc etc. THEN you go out on real dates outside the office. Those times you spend in office getting to know them are cutting the time to get to know them on dates.
For instance Jim got to know Pam so well he got her the perfect gift for Christmas without even going on an official date. 3 weeks dating when you don’t work together sounds like what Mickey mentioned. But 3 weeks dating AND working together is completely different.

Zach Woods is such an amazing and hilarious performer. Gabe is probably my favorite _new_ character that comes in at season 6. His delivery is so funny and I've heard that he improvised a lot of his lines.

i can understand erin's reaction because of her personality/background. i think andy was either oblivious to the fact that he should have told her (maily based on the way the show portrays him) eventually or just was going to tell her later.
Why would you tell someone about a past relationship anyway? I don't see any need to share old, private details you often don't want to relive anyway.

Erin's reaction is in character enough. Doesn't make it any better TV, though.
They danced around getting together like a couple of children for a whole season only to break up over something that's only debatably an issue three episodes later. S6 is really when the cracks start to show.

If Erin and Andy were serious enough that the entire office knew they were together, then Erin has a right to know about Angela/Andy before Angela knows about Erin/Andy. Anyone aside from Michael could have brought up Angela and Andy in front of Erin, and that’s really embarrassing and humiliating to be the girlfriend and the only person who doesn’t know.
They were only dating for like 2 months at this point though. And Andy didn’t tell her clearly because he was embarrassed about being cheated on and not knowing for such a long time. Erin is 100% in the wrong in this imo, it’s understandable to be upset not knowing but she blew it way out of proportion.

I think most of you are nicer than me, cause if I was dating someone, and they purposefully left out that they dated someone that we work with every day and they were engaged to that person? That's absolutely break-up worthy, imo, especially that early in a relationship.
Erin may be naive, but it's a very fair standard to have in this case.
Michael is awkward for even bringing it up, but it says something that even he was shocked Andy hadn't told her yet. That level of social awareness seems pretty stock, lmao.
Gabe is a great character and so is Erin.

I get Erin. Like I LOVE Andy and in normal circumstances, three weeks is too early do disclose that you used to be engaged. But Erin works with Angela and sees her everyday and someone in that (boundary-less) office was going to bring it up at some point...Andy should have told her about his history with Angela. It's not like they casually dated either. They were days away from their wedding. And also, Andy may have only been dating Erin officially for three weeks but he was courting her much longer. He should have mentioned it even before they started dating. So I get Erin. She reacted a little strongly but I think part of her character is that she's naive and trusting and she's so young...Andy has all the power in that relationship so trust is really important. And he failed to disclose a huge, pertinent thing to her. She gets to be wary and upset for a while, I think.
They'd dated longer than 3 weeks. And no, 3 weeks is not too early.

Being engaged is not old shit. That's such a stupid take. That's a really big deal. They'd been together for 2 months and knew each other for a long time before that. That's a dealbreaker for a lot of people. You owe it to someone early to tell them. Your morals are really out of wack here.

I think to Erin "being wanted" by someone means something totally different as well - just as an orphan who wasn't regularly wanted by anyone. Sad, but it would explain why she see's her emotions in place of popular cultural norms (which she lacks). Her background explains both those blindspots well.

I can see both sides of the issue. Yeah, getting that mad about that kinda thing after dating for three weeks is pretty excessive. But them both working in the same office with Angela makes it a whole lot more uncomfortable for Erin. Obviously, the best thing for Andy to have done was to rip the Band-Aid off and tell her about Angela on the first date or two. But I can’t fault Andy too much for making the mistake he did.

I never thought the "punishment" fit the "crime" in this episode. Andy does nothing but be a loving person (look at him just being glad Erin is laughing with Michael at the end) and he faces backlash from a relationship that would have driven nearly anyone into a deep depression.

I think this episode is the most looney tunes or flanderized of the original run, possibly the whole show. But it has sum good moments like Michael and Erin bonding at the end and the Gabe stuff

I'll get tons of hate for this, BUT: I never liked Erin as a character. The actress is fine & all, & she has a couple of funny scenes, but I don't find the character endearing in the least. Sympathetic at times, but that's about it. This episode is a good example. And all this BS about "but they see each other every day & they all work together", so what? People aren't obligated to fill you in on every aspect of their life immediately. They're in a new relationship, which is barely intimate at this point. Andy didn't commit some cardinal sin. It making her uncomfortable is one thing, but her reaction isn't justified, even if her background makes it understandable.
I'll never forgive the writers for fucking up Andy. Erin, the walking red flag somehow gets away with being painfully stupid till the very end.
