  • The Cyprus problem will be solved tomorrow. Our typical Kypraia meets a Turkish-Cypriot and they discuss the last matters regarding the return of all refugees. At some time during their conversation, they discover the absolute truth.

Sad stories here I’m a Turkish Cypriot living in London and my family lived in Cyprus for almost 200 years before the invasion of 1974 my grandfather and great grandfather were murdered by Greek Cypriots for no reason on there way to work massacred my father 6 brothers and sisters were left orphans we grew up with a lot of hate towards Greek Cypriots we never stole anybody’s home or land yet I could have grown up with the same hate yet I choose not to I have many Greeks as friends were all human and so alike in more ways than 1 what I’m trying to say is until we lose the hate on both sides and except each other as humans regardless of religion there’ll never be peace both sides committed crimes towards women children I don’t condone this but Greeks and Turks lived side by side for centuries with no problems what a shame that people still carry hate when the only way forward is to forgive

We must overcome the hate that was lodged into our hearts resulting from events spewed out from the meetings held by those who truly don't belong to this island and yet have the interest to remain on this island. If you get the chance ask your grandparents who survived about how it used to be in the 40's and early 50's (before 56). They will tell you a different story, a story that tells about the people of an island who lived in harmony. Why was this taken from Cypriots? Peace is your right!

LIES separated US, and yet we still give into these lies, let them consume ourselves. We have forgotten the ways the people used to interact with each other, we have started to find pride in our differences, rather embracing everyday facts and logic. The worry of living is the same where ever you go, we all live with such worries and goals. Unfortunately we learn only in dire times how similar we are, such an example can come from the devastating earthquake in Turkey in 1999, Greece was the 1st

[continued] Greece was 1st country to offer swift support. That day many have realized in Turkey, that all these years the bitterness we felt was in vain. That day we came even closer. Turkey returned the same kind help she received from her neighbor on her bad day as Greece struggled after another earthquake hit her later that year. So what is the problem on the island? The problem is not the Turks or Greeks, but it's those people that we let in to take decisions on our behalf.

    Thanks for the comment.
Seems stage though, cause the guy keeps mentioning his burning house being in Pafos untouched even though he hasn't been there. Especially with a kid on him, seems more friendly and approachable.
It will be extremely difficult for the Greek part if symbiosis is what the "leaders" plan.
Even if we had a common ground 35+ years back, now we have nothing!
There's going to be skinhead fights, intolerance, hatred, unemployment and such.

@Mozgor First of all, the Turks came here ILLEGALLY, as an act of war. Second, it is not the people per se we have problem with, but the Turkish mentality.

When greek people learned living togather, united cyprus would be set up one more time.Otherwise even the half of the island is large for you.Cyprus has never been a greek island in history, and will never be in the future.Turks have conqured the island from Venediks. Then, Greek people have been living in peace in the past and today because of turks. Even if they sometimes keep out of mischief Turks still love and will go on to protect them. :)

@menuria Thanks for your response, but if I'm correct is it not the Ottoman Turks that this is directed towards. Turkey is a very different country today and changing for the better all the time since it became secular and democratic, but like every country there are still those who hang on to old beliefs. Also remember that Turkey intervened as a direct response to the constant threat of Enosis and this was orchestrated and contolled by USA/UK to distract from UK presence in Cyprus

There cannot be real peace until all the Turkish military personnel, the forced Turkish migrants and their descendants leave the Island. The island belongs to Cypriots, no matter what language they speak.

[continued] So for this reason as well it is not a possibility for Turkey to take Cyprus. Cypriot-Turks, if you think they're sketchy, you'd be surprised, they are just trying to live and get by just like the rest of Cyprus. What's the only difference? They are poorer then you guys. So now that we have established that Turkey does NOT want the Island of Cyprus, we can move on to what Turkey really wants. Turkey wants the island to unite. First of all we want this for everybody.

Sermet, ENOSIS was the thought of Cyprus becoming part of Greece! An ideology very few Greek Cypriots actually wanted
As a Greek Cypriot myself, i dont believe Cypriots ( Greek or Turkish) wanted this.. The Government of Greece wanted Enosis. Cyprus was free & independent.
Question. Why was Turkey allowed by the international community, to invade a small island nation in the Mediterranean?
The invasion & occupation, separated the island , based on Turkeys wants & needs, not on the needs of the Cypriot people.
The only true solution is unity & peace, but until Turkey ( which is as foreign to Cyprus as mainland Greece) leaves the island, how is this possible ?

  • @elbbd

[continued] and we also want it for stability. Another important issue that Turkey stresses on is the safety of her ethnicity, without the requirement of her army's presence. Also I must admit we'll go back to financial reasons, Turkey want's to keep that ~$400.000 to spend it on her debts. That being said, you've got nothing to worry about, but to get rid of those pesky British and their army bases. Once the Turkish and the British army leaves, the island can be peaceful again.

  • @Mozgor

It's dangerous to generalise, how can you possibly say that you can't get on with Turks end of? Just as in any culture there are some wonderful Turkish people, but also there fair share of not so wonderful too.

Greck cypriots had got the problems after the revalution of greece at the beginning of 1970's. Some greeks tried to make the same revalution in cyprus to unite cypruse to greece. So they used force over innocent turks in order to overcome them or make them emigrate out of the island. Turkish cypriots have lived the same problems much more than greek cypriots have. They need the same things, too. However they feel themselves in peace anymore and want to continue to get in peace.
