I keep coming back to this clip. There's such a great groove going on here. It's just ticking along, but they are all grinning to their eyeballs. And the brief pan left to the drummer Gus Johnson at the end of Eldridge's solo is very revealing. He's just playing time, but his whole body is engaged in generating that swing. It's one of those subtle things in jazz that makes all the difference...
solo posso dire che e' bellissimo!!!questo maestro era l'icono del mio babbo!!!e' adesso anche mio!!la vita da piacevoli momenti ,ma senza musica non avrebbe senzo vivere!
It's just Great listining to These Cats "Dancing/Swinging/Singing" their music. I was so Lucky to see/hear them live in Oslo,Norway in 1956 witht JATP group
The tune is called "soft winds" composed by Charlie Chrisitan and Benny Goodman. The head( melody) is 16-bars extended blues form, however after stating the head players usually improvise on 12-bar jazz blues progression.
Man, what a line up! Great choice of tunes, everyone working well together, totally in the pocket. Man, this stuff is great, it makes me want to practice more and play in front of people more. Totally inspirational!!!
@masolv1...In Pittsburgh, where Ray Brown and Roy Eldridge call home, It is perfectly normal for top notch Jazz musicians to have spontaneous Jam Sessions and the hired Trio or Quartet would serve as a rhythm section. In 1961 the two most popular venues for these guys were the Crawford Grill and the Hurricane. This trio would have backed up a very young George Benson, Stanley and Tommy Turrentine, Jimmy Smith, etc....
did you know that the bass that john clayton (of the clayton hamilton orchestra) plays, is ray browns bass? once he (ray brown) died, it was given to John as a gift
I’m supposed to be analyzing the style for class but I kept getting distracted at the beginning by the two guys in the front talking about the performance with each other
50 years later, and we're still digging on this. That's the staying power of blues/jazz/Oscar.
First time I've seen a trio with five dudes in it.
Just love oscar's smile while he's groovin with herbie. Puts a smile on my face every time.
It’s pure joy
You can always hear a little Texas twang in Herbs solos and I love it 😀
