    ABOUT
I'm Shayla, an earthy mountain mama to 6 wildlings, & a blessed wife to one since 2004. We're a big, Jesus loving, God fearing family & we love to laugh! Hubby & I are second generation homeschoolers, & have been homeschooling our children from the start-since around 2009. We were raised unconventionally, and our parents utilized homesteading before it was trendy, and it was a goal and dream of ours to do the same-but it's only been recently that we have been able to bring this dream to full potential. Last year the Heavenly Father brought to life our dream that we've had for over 25 years and enabled us to begin buying a mountain homestead fixer upper, so join us in the adventures and fun here at our new homeschool/homestead! Be sure to subscribe. In 2023 my goal is to upload once a month.

One really cool thing about teaching multiple children is that once your child can read, it creates a lot of independence. It seems like a hard task but once you realize you don't have to be hovering over them once they are around 2nd grade they can work indepdant for small periods of time. If they have a question I answer and help. It does take some time to get used to this way, but it will help you in the long run. Homeschooling is a journey and you truly figure out what works best for your situation. Take the pressure off yourself and just try to enjoy learning together.

Those color strips for reading are called cover overlays. I absolutely love them with having a high functioning autistic son who struggles to focus on reading things he’s not interested in and a dyslexic daughter these are a GOD SEND! I think every teacher homeschool or public school needs these for kids to help create successful readers.

Ohhh a backtrack to a renovation. I love those. I like how you asked a question to your kids and I heard, "No," Then you said you were going to do it anyway. HAHA. The color you chose to paint is really nice. Dark green works with all the plants!
I had a homeschooling section for a few years in my home but then just kept their books in my closet (that was mainly empty anyway) and used our kitchen table. It would be fun to have a homeschooling space or a room for school work one day down the road.
It is neat to see some of the books I once had when I homeschooled like the 50 states book & Animalium. I love Beatrix Potter's works! Yey Little House on the Prairie books.
Thanks for showing us your homeschooling room!! It was fun. I miss having homeschooling things. I still have a bunch of the digital curriculum I had that I can keep for the future.
I was thinking about taking my middle child out of public school (since my two older ones are in high school and it will be their third year not homeschooled), but I don't think he will like that. I would have to look for new co-ops too since the ones we used closed down with covid. Not enough time to plan. :: sigh :: I am just glad they say I was their best teacher and that they loved their homeschooling experience.

A beautiful school room. As we finish the current cabin space my hubby and son built we will also add on a schoolroom, as usual we built small then realized we really do need some more space. 😆
I’m with you about the shelves making more sense as you have them now. Thanks about the pencil sharpener, I’m using your link on Amazon, it’s so hard to find a good one.
I am looking forward to the rest of the video series. Thanks again 😊

Thank you for the warning about the books and evolution. I also invested in some of those that my younger kids were quick to show me the evolution agenda. On another note, I got them Dinosaurium and the boys cut out the dinosaurs. Grrrr....
Young Earth creationists here, also very geocentrist leaning. Galileo was Wrong was a thought provoking documentary. Your homeschool space is wonderful.

Hi, I was just watching an interesting video which made me think of what you said. I remember you mentioning about (sorry this is very difficult to write I dont want to upset you) you mentioned losing a baby due to pesticides? I also experienced a miscariage but different place different scenario. Anyway..
Well I was just watching this guy talk about Mcdonalds using only one variety of potatoe and it has to be perfect. Where they are grown, in Idaho they spray (or used to?) a pesticide called Monitor. I will link the video i thought you might be interested to see it.

Do you have a Bible History Timeline? If you search The Great Adventure Bible series, they havea neat timeline to go with it. It's what's also used for Bible in a Year Podcast.

Yes, with MFW curriculum we make our own, the kids get to do cut out's and color it too. Timelines are so great aren't they?! They really help children to see and visualize how time works a little.
