  • This month we butchered over 90 broilers IN A DAY so I'm showing our Chicken Butcher Setup (slightly graphic), I'm harvesting and drying herbs and making herbal tincture, I'm sharing thoughts with you and my children from a quiet morning time devotional with God about how sin steals, plus giving some of my organic gardening tips for beginners and a sub requested garden tour! We also have our FIRST HARVEST from the garden! I'm also showing how my husband built predator proof chicken cages for broilers.

    ABOUT
I'm Shayla, an earthy mountain mama to 6 wildlings, & a blessed wife to one since 2004. We're a big, Jesus loving, God fearing family & we love to laugh! Hubby & I are second generation homeschoolers, & have been homeschooling our children from the start-since around 2009. We were raised unconventionally, and our parents utilized homesteading before it was trendy, and it was a goal and dream of ours to do the same-but it's only been recently that we have been able to bring this dream to full potential. Last year the Heavenly Father brought to life our dream that we've had for over 25 years and enabled us to begin buying a mountain homestead fixer upper, so join us in the adventures and fun here at our new homeschool/homestead! Be sure to subscribe. In 2023 my goal is to upload once a month minimum.

You are living the life I want!!! Love it! I told my husband for years that we are going have a ton of kids to work on our farm, my seizures slowed us down then one day we said screw it and started to have them anyway. 2 kids so far, no farm yet. 😂. God bless you!

When out pulling weeds, stop and confess a sin for each batch of weeds pulled. Upon confession, repent of that sin and ask God to help you resist that sin. Receive His forgiveness. And go on to the next batch of weeds and pull the next sin from your life. And continue on. Thank God for His forgiveness. 💚💚💚

    Always such an inspiration!
Such beauty through and through in your videos. It’s clear to see you and your family are truly blessed by God. 🌻💕

I loved this and love your devotional. I’m really surprised you haven’t had an issue with the broilers being eaten. Usually chicken wire doesn’t keep the raccoons from reaching in and eating them piece by piece. 😳
That’s wonderful though and I love the setup!

Garlic scrapes are so cool! Would love recipes of how to cook/eat the "unusual parts" from the garden like pea shoots, celery tops, carrot tops, squash blossoms, etc. I know they can be eaten but I don't know what to do with them.

Won't be able to make the live, but I definitely look forward to watching the replay :)
90 chickens in a day seems like a LOT of birds, that was either a really long day or you had lots of help.
Hope you have a great Monday :D

I love this devotional! A little
Advice for the chicken processing. Don’t bag and freeze the
Chicken on process day their muscles are still contracted the meat will be tough or more tough wait at very least 24 hours from processing. They should be in ice bath (approx 40 degrees) for 24-48 hours prior to bagging and freezing. Maybe you did this for convenience but for better meat this will
Make a huge difference. I saying this from experience.

Hello Andrea! Yes, after bagging we put them in the fridge for 48 hours before freezing. ☺

That egg dish looks so good. mm!
I love how you are doing your best to connect a personal story about how nature and how it relates to your thoughts and God's teachings over to your children, but they are distracted, and you need to set their attention on course. It makes me think about how many times God tries to get our attention and we ignore Him and he tries to take away our distractions too and show us exactly what you were trying to do, through nature, etc.
I love when my friends make soaps and they give them to me or I buy the soaps from them. handmade soap is the best.
That is awesome that you have all that knowledge about herbs!
I haven't had my own garden in a few years, but I learned some things that I hope to remember when I have a garden once again. Congrats on the big first harvest you received.

Your garden looks great!! We just finished up the gardening season here in Texas (for the most part). Just harvesting the last of the tomatoes that are ripening on the vines, but it’s too hot for most vegetables- and definitely too hot for me. 😂 May the Lord continue to bless your garden and the work of your hands!!! 🤗

I've only ever used vodka for my herbs and everclear for woodier things. I HATE using everclear. I mean, it's the grossest nastiest alcohol. I just wish there was something else that would help with our bee prop or maybe usnea. I definitely admire that you raise your own meat birds. We have chickens for eggs only. I cannot enjoy the thought of killing them myself.

Lol, I think you mean eviscerate? I think excavating means digging a giant hole with a tractor called an excavator.
