Hi! New subscriber here. I have a question on your opinion of the dermatologist rx’d tret and agency. I know agency has those added ingredients but does it dilute the tretnoin? I guess what I’m asking is if you get the same amount of tretnoin (not percentage of strength but actual ingredient) as you would in a single tube from the dr? I just signed up to agency so I haven’t even tried the formula yet but I’m interested to know if I would be getting the same amount per bottle.

Tretinoin Will make your skin looks better and yes, helps with aging. But, unfortunately, jawline acne probably points to insulin resistance and estrogen predominance. So what you said about sugar and etc is completely correct. Please, search an endocrinologist or some hormone specialist and treat the root problem. Hope it helps.

I have come across anecdotes on the calming benfits of incoporating niacinamide into vitamin A-focused skincare routines. I personally have not tried using a pure niacinamide product (high concentration) as part of my retinol night-time routine. I have however used calming products, which contain niacinamide (I believe, of low concentration), after applying retinol serum. I tend to keep it simple by just applying my retinol serum followed by a thick calming (boring) moisturiser. I hope this’d help.

I can comment on the wrinkles side of things…I started at 20 and I am 55 now. So I have been using prescription retinols for 35 years. For me it has been a game changer and I am so glad I started early using it. I have no wrinkles and my skin is so smooth and flawless thanks to it. I have had comments from people who thought I was 35 or 40 years old. I know it’s expensive and the irritation phase can be hard but my advice is to stick with it because the end result is so worth it! :)

Tretinoin saved my skin from horrible acne I’ve had most of my life. I wish I had used it 15 years ago. For me the purging and irritation was really really bad for the first few months…the key is to stick with it and be gentle with your skin. I worked my way up to .1% like Abby over a few years and it’s been hard work but amazing results. It’s the only thing out of the zillion products I’ve tried that actually keeps my poorly functioning pores from clogging.

I still breakout a bit but I think if I continue to increase the tretinoin and stay consistent it will only get better! Thanks for sharing.

At 23, I am a year and a half into my tret journey and will use it every day for the rest of my life. the first 6 months were very tough, and my skin went through so much, but i am absolutely amazed at how little scarring i have left when i think about how i looked a year and a half ago. i had tried to treat what i thought was cystic acne over the counter for about 6 months before seeing a dermatologist, and then found out i actually had rosacea fulminans, which is a fairly rare cutaneous disorder that resulted from having sepsis. they wanted me on isotretinoin, but i wanted to try tretinoin first as the side effects of isotretinoin were likely to exasperate other health issues. i am SO glad i gave tret a chance and did not stop when i had initial irritation. i had to start on 0.1% (along with a steroid and an antibiotic orally) as what I had needed a nontraditional course of treatment. there is no reason to start that high if you don't have to, as the irritation was pretty significant for me.

I am quite happy with the results as it has diminished the appearance of fine lines around my eyes. I haven't experienced much irritation on my face, but I have sporadically experienced it on my neck when I accidentally rub some on there. I keep my skin routine rather simple. I wash my face with La Roche Posay Lipikar gentle foaming wash. I then apply Tretinoin, in which I allow my skin to absorb it for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, I apply my fragrance free Cerave moisturizer. Throughout the day I apply Elta MD invisible mineral sunscreen which is also fragrance free. Loved the video! Very informative!

I'm a GR/MA so wayyyy older & I abused my skin with sun damage my whole life. I started tretinoin 8 months ago so I'm still a work in progress. I wish I was smarter in my adult life about taking care of my skin & using sunscreen. I use Timeless vit C in the mornings & tretinoin at night, hopefully soon I'll see results, I know it takes time. I feel we are never too old to start. Thanks to you I'm using Cetaphil redness reueving & Vanicream!!! I'm a curly girl so I use different hair products but enjoy your videos so much. I've been using Tret with Curology for two years. I'm at .14 %. Took some time to get used to it and learn what other serums, etc would play nicely with it. A couple months ago I started using Paula's Choice exfoliant. It was too much. So I started using the exfoliant you suggested (can't remember the name CereVe?) Using that and a Vit C serum every morning turned the corner. My skin is glowy and spots are reducing along with enlarged pores. I'm going to switch to Agency. Not all that impressed with Curology's communication. If I ask a specific question I get a canned answer that doesn't address the issue.
    Thanks for sharing your journey!

If you have sensitive skin or aren’t adjusted to tretinoin: cleanse and moisturize skin like normal, then apply pea sized amount to entire face except mouth and eyes. If you aren’t sensitive or are adjusted to tretinoin: apply pea sized amount to dry clean skin, then use moisturizers.
Shouldn’t be more complicated than that.

Best way to start Tretinoin is …night 1 apply, wash off with gentle cleanser after 10 min. Night 2 after 20 min, night 3 after 30 min, night 4 after 40 min, night 5 after an hour, night 6 after 2 hours. After that apply to dry face overnight. I came across this when I started it two yrs ago and never had a problem. I had been using a retinol for 1 year prior to that.

If you like using an exfoliant, I recommend the Skinstitut Enzymatic Micro peel! I am currently prescribed with tretinoin, and I use the micropeel as well. It basically exfoliates your skin gently, and then after about 15 minutes it hydrates your skin. There’s no need to wash it off, I use it as a cream before I place the tretinoin on my spots at night. It’s amazing.

Been on tret for 4 years but consistently the last 3 years. I freaking love it but hell to start on, I swear by the buffering method. An truly the key is to wait like a hour after you wash ur face. Time for your face to be totally dry an for a little oil to return to the surface of the skin. So I wash, then use a plumping HA gel like hado labo or hydro boost, or the cosrx snail all in one cream. Then I use a thick moisturizer drunk elephant whipped lala or cerve, then tret then 20 mins later another layer of an occulsive moisturizer if im experiencing dryness. 💜 Loved the veedip

I have the same issue w perioral dermatitis. If I use one too many products, particularly scrubs, masks w acids, vit c and adapalene (because new insurance won't cover tretinoin), I will undoubtedly start getting those little red irritating p.o.d. bumps the next day.

    • @SophiaDerivan

I hope this helps. I started tretinoin & a month & a half later I had terrible p.o.d. I switched up from .025 to 0.5% & the perioral dermatitis calmed down. I went to allergy specialists & doctors to see what was going on. I have a rare allergy to a preservative, but as far as I could tell it was not in any products I used(including tretinoin ingredient list). Anyways, I don’t know what possessed me, but I switched up to .05% tretinoin & it has really improved. I only had mild peeling around my nose, otherwise things have been okay. It might just be the formulation of the percentage you’re using. Don’t give up just yet! I know the struggle!😩 My skin has drastically improved. .025% didn’t do much, but since the .05% my skin hasn’t been this good since I was a child.

I started Curology .01% Tret in September. I have INCREDIBLY sensitive skin and have scarring from a bout with a bad derm who insisted I use .025% Tret every day despite the agonizing breakouts I was getting in areas I didn't normally break out in. Fast-forward to my 30s and I have more breakouts than I ever did at 20, so I started Curology despite being gunshy with Tret. I started seeing improvement with the low low dose almost immediately. I started buffering Altreno into my moisturizer in December and started purging again but WOW, even in a month, I've seen so much improvement. I *LOVE* Altreno to death - it's the most elegant tret formula I've ever used and it doesn't make my skin burn the next day like generic Tret .025% cream. I'm still peeling so I have to back off of my every other day usage here and there just to let things calm and heal and then re-introduce it. Just trying to take it slow with the higher dose (Altreno is .05%).

    • @wench8291
      @wench8291 2 роки тому +1

@@aliciapaul132 hey! Not a derm here but that seems like a very common practice with tret & differin (which I’m on) users. It’s perfectly fine to gently roll off the flaking skin while washing your face. You could even use gentle mechanical (maybe a damp washcloth) or chemical (low percentage aha or pha) to exfoliate as needed if your skin can handle it. Obviously YMMV & it’s best to go in sloowww when introducing other forms of exfoliation to an already sensitized retinoid face but it’s worth a try if the flakes are persistant.

My journey on tretinoin was horrible. Six months of the worst cystic acne I've ever had in my life. I got on birth control near the end and my acne got better around the same time. Hard to say if it was the tretinoin starting to work post purge or the birth control. Still on both so I guess I'll never know

Love your content! Ive been on tretinoin for almost 7 years now. I was also prescribed it for acne (adult acne I developed after quitting androgenic BC when I’d been clear my entire life 😩). I started on .05 and I’m now on .1. Like you, it didn’t entirely clear my acne which was def disappointing - I have had to incorporate other actives to do some more work for me personally when it comes to the monthly cysts (P50 all over and BP on my chin preventatively in the AM, dapsone, clindamycin, and azelaic acid at night along w tret..it took years for me to be able to tolerate all these actives ofc and I pull back whenever I notice signs of irritation). I honestly had perfect texture less skin before I started breaking out, so the goal has always been to get back my ‘before’ skin and I pretty much do have that, besides the occasional break outs. Over the years, I have developed fine lines on my forehead, so tret hasnt prevented that, but again it’s been almost 7 years (I started at age 22 and I’m about to turn 29), so who knows how much worse they’d be without the tret. Thinking about trying the needless serum/peptides before I hop into preventative botox. Otherwise, my skin is super fragile, breaks super easily (can’t get it scratched or itll immediately bleed basically), and ofc more sensitized and easily irritated. I also swear by the LRP cicaplast baume. I apply it as my last product AM and PM.

I started Tretinoin back in mid September. Unbelievable results so far. I was 43 when I started, 44 now. My only regret is that I didn't start it in my 20's. My results are slow, but obvious.

I feel like Cetaphil's Redness Relief Night Cream is one of those products that don't get enough credit. In my opinion it is SO much better than Cerave's famous Night lotion. Totally amazing product, one of Cetaphil's best products for sure.

Going to start tretinoin soon from the brand Dermatica. They prescribed me 0.025% tret with 8% azelaic acid the first month. I might try the brand you sue because I like the additional ingredients they added into your formula like niacinamide which is what I wish Dermatica added into mine. Also, you said you were on lower strengths for a while before advancing to higher strengths of tret but they have me going from 0.025 to 0.05 in one month and I'm like WAIT 😩🤣🤣

I've read it's advised to wait 20-30 minutes after cleansing and application of serums before applying tret to ensure the skin is completely dry, and then wait another 20-30 mins following tret application to apply moisturizer. Are these waiting periods critical? They make for a really long routine.

I totally get what you mean. I can only tell my experience. Differin, I didn’t do that. Just waited til dry. Zero irritation. Now w Tretinoin I’m paranoid so I do wait (I have rosacea), but I will say, I have zero irritation still. I do cleanse, apply toner & moisturizer, then wait 30 min before applying. I think you can see what works best for you.

I use tretinoin in my Curology prescription and while initially it caused some dryness it has never made my skin more sensitive. My skin after a year of use has seen massive progress in my melasma and clogged pores. I started monthly chemicals peels 4 months ago and just skip the tretinoin 2 nights before and 2 nights following the treatment.

I started tretinoin about 3 months ago and, like you said, it really helps the frequency and number of breakouts. I find it also helps reduce the amount of the time it takes the pimple to disappear. I would love a Q&A video, particularly comparing the different ways to get tretinoin. Right now I have a prescription from my derm and I get it from an online pharmacy so I'm curious if agency or cureology would be just as good. Does it matter that I already have a prescription from my own dermatologist? I don't want to hurt my derm's feelings. :)

So help me out here, Abbey, cuz I’m confused about why I would switch from Curology to Agency. Agency costs almost double & offers a dark spot remover with Hydroquinone. I have no dark spots & I know Hydroquinone badly irritates my skin. I get Tret at % I can tolerate from Curology now & all seems fine, so I don’t see why I’d switch to Agency. Abbey, do you have a need for a dark spot remover & Hydroquinone?

I switched as I am older and leaning more towards anti aging. Agency gives current Curology users a deal ( same price as Curology) for a period of time. It has a different base and includes 4 actives vs 3 with Curology.

Thanks Abby great job. I can relate to everything you said. Tretinoin definitely is a journey with patience. I thought snail mucin was a kind of exfoliation. Is that incorrect? In your experience, what would you recommend as the best plumbing product? I always thought it was hyaluronic acid but now I’m not sure. Thank you for the Cerave ointment recommendation. It has become my life saver. I can’t believe how much it has helped my skin. Love your content ❤

I absolutely love the Cetaphil moisturizer, and glad you recommend it. As for fragrance, I think I’m allergic, it also gives me sinus headaches. However, if I can’t smell it and it’s low on the list, sometimes it doesn’t bother my skin. I’m 62, and I laid out in the sun too much when I was a teen in the 70’s. My mother told me I would regret it. You were right mom! Tret has reversed some of the damage on my face, but my neck shows my age. I also have lots of age spots too, but I think tret has minimized them on my face. I use .05% cream three times a week. I find my face looks dull if I do more than that. I use Paula’s Choice 8% AHA once a week, and my skin can tolerate that. I can’t seem to use Vitamin C.
