    New lil essay on an artist that is absolutely killlllling it right now. Clairo is incredibly talented and I don't know if I've ever seen a musician that matches her level of authenticity. (P.S. my New England accent really throws that "CLAH-RO" in this video a little bit lol)

    Did you know clairo’s dad is actually an influential marketing executive who has had a direct impact on her exposure in the music industry? (He has fader connections etc.) This isn’t meant to downplay clairo’s talent in any way though. Im a big fan and I will continue to listen to her music. It just rubs me the wrong way that she isn’t actually being transparent about all the forces that got her to where she is.

      Thank you for a less aggressive approach lol. So, the answer is no. When I made this, I had no idea about that and found out soon after. Now I've gotten 10+ comments being like, "SHE'S A FAKE! SHE IS WORTHLESS! KILL HER". And it's sketchy for sure, but I don't know how that would effect her UA-cam videos, which were a major talking point of this^^^^^video. Idk it's weird, for sure, but like you, I'm still a fan

Also her dad is no music marketing guru. He worked for soda companies, Starbucks, and Converse. Not the same. At best he could have maybe helped get in a door or two, but then you still have to not suck or you'll never get anywhere. The irony though is she has videos going back to when she was a kid online, she's been at it for nearly a decade and by no means "blew up out of nowhere" like all of these morons think just because they read a wiki page and saw "marketing".

    Authentic? Lmao. Okay. If you say so. I'm not making any statements claiming to know everything, but as someone who loves her music she's pretty surface level. Authenticity is a term I'd use for BROCKHAMPTON. But at the end of the day I take a Vince Staples approach "What if it's all fake? How could you actually know?" The internet in particular has brought an age where image is so constructed that I'd argue most everyone isn't really authentic. But Clairo in particular,, she's just a girl making songs about love mostly, a concept that her teenage self explores with as much depth as Taylor Swift. Like I guess if she truly is that basic in real life, which could very well be possible, she is authentic technically but I don't get how that's so worthwhile lol. It seems the extent of her depth is how "Authentic" she is but like there's thousands of teens on UA-cam recording themselves in their bedroom, I don't see how she s special really

      You're not even talking about being authentic, you're talking about being rare and special. What if she is being herself and a lot of other girls are like her? You don't have to be special to be authentic, the two aren't related at all. But I do question how she blew up so quick and her singing live looked like someone who can't believe she finessed her way this far, or she could've been nervous idk.

      I get your point, but I would argue she is actually authentic... for example in "pretty girl" the video is quite unique wouldn't u say ? a video shot in her room with just her dancing around plus her singing style itself is a major part of why I would call her authentic. the dreamy laid-back almost sleepy singing voice is one i haven't heard before tbh so i can say she is authentic in some ways or maybe you could say "pretty girl" is authentic

    I know alot of people are aggressive about this but I honestly think theres a good reason to be angry towards an artist that fakes their entire persona, music, and marketing to succeed as well as have dad pay for multiple interviews, paid press, and even paid lineup spots. Clairo is alright as a musician but to act like she isn't producing her tracks in a studio with 4 producer/writers helping her to make her, "diy indie music" is such a farce. She's just another semi-attractive rich kid with average music thats a walking marketing plan. Theres nothing "crazy" or "interesting" or "DIY" past that. that's what makes her a piece of shit to those who have had to do it all by themselves with nothing more then their own intuition, risks, and skills. She's defacing the brick building approach an acting like she's worked hard. It's utter bullshit, and i I hope her shiftiness blows up in her face.

      Mr.Wobbles There's nothing fake about it though. For one, she has videos going back like half a decade under a handful of names. They hardly have any hits or plays on Sound cloud. She by no means "blew up out of nowhere" as ppl are suggesting because they just now heard of her. 2nd, her dad wasn't a music industry guy. He worked for soda companies, Starbucks and Converse shoes promoting physical products. 3rd, I've never once seen or heard her try to claim anything people say about her (still small) rise. It's like they just make shit up and decide it's fact, then decide she betrayed them on it. It's insane!

    I feel like there are a lot of people negatively commenting on her style of music. Bedroom Pop like this is my absolute fav. It may not sound super intricate or have the most challenging lyrics, but i think theres a lot of heart in it. Even if her dad is some big shot, the music is still cute and enjoyable which is all that matters.

    Bedroom pop...i think studio pop. We all know she used top tier equiptment. And didnt start from her bedroom. Or the bottom. Shes good though i suppose. I just wish she was more real with where she came from so it doesnt give other aspiring artists false hope.

    Can you do a review on Kaiit or music by artist like Xiuhtezcatl Martinez who are activist but have started to have some powerful ideas for change in the world and for music as a whole. And maybe have something on different r&b artists too who push more on breaking music borders

    I discovered Clairo last year and I wasn't really too sure of her age because she looks super young in her cover pics. Like in Bubblegum, she looked like a 13 year old 😂

    Yay bedroom pop ❤️ yay clairo ❤️ to be honest a part of me wishes this genre wasn’t getting so popular but at the same time I’m happy clairo and other artists like her are getting the recognition they deserve

    • @PhatInAHat
      @PhatInAHat 6 років тому

      "bedroom pop"? "they" deserve? She's not, she's a plant by her dad and his music industry friends. "Pretty Girl" was blatantly at least mastered in the Converse music studio her dad helps run. Bedroom pop my ass.

      PHat in a hat well whether her dads company helped or not, her Music is still amazing. You could criticize many people for starting off with help and connections but you don’t because they are talented people, i love her voice that’s not something her dad made for her. Also yes, it’s called bedroom pop, that’s just the genre of music - you look on Spotify at the bedroom pop playlist and the cover is Literally her face. Would you call Selina Gomez not a pop singer because she had connections when she begun her career? No cuz it’s just the genre that’s it. I know of this whole controversy and i agree she should be more transparent with her fans but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have talent and it doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve recognition, if anything it’s great that she’s getting the help that a lot of people wish they could get

    • @PhatInAHat
      @PhatInAHat 6 років тому

      She's pop, but she ain't really bedroom. Probably a connection of her dad's got her that Spotify placing as well. She's an industry plant pretending to have DIY, made it on my own beginnings - there are thousands of girls uploding vids of themselves singing pop songs in their bedrooms who are genuinely trying to make it by themselves and being brave by taking a jump in to the unknown; actual bedroom pop wouldn't have industry backing and studio help from the get go. If anything it's NOT great that she's getting the help that a lot of people wish they could get, because she's taking resources away from those people who had been doing the same thing on more genuine terms - i.e. that she is already somehow the poster girl for "bedroom pop" is a joke, it's like making Drake the poster boy for a "gangster rap" playlist...

    • @emilyduff3986
      @emilyduff3986 6 років тому

      PHat in a hat alright well I suppose her being a bedroom pop artist is just a matter of opinion. To me, she has the lofi sound most other bedroom pop songs do, and works with many other artists known in the community such as mellow fellow. I consider bedroom pop as the song itself rather than the artist and what they have done but i get your point that the idea of bedroom pop is for it to be raw and unprofessional. What i do feel however is that bedroom pop is really the only genre where this is criticized that much, we never judge people on the radio for having connections and becoming famous because of this and if we do well i guess i don’t care so i just don’t hear of it lol, I’m worried that people will come down too hard on clairo in a way they don’t with other singers when she is genuinely talented. I guess if you look at bedroom pop as the process as well as the sound it’s unfair for her to label herself as a bedroom pop artist but the bottom line for me personally is that there’s something unique about her voice that i appreciate and want to celebrate.

    • @PhatInAHat
      @PhatInAHat 6 років тому

      fine, if you still like her, though truly raw, unedited and unprofessional she really is poor: ua-cam.com/video/HS2X3ojCEn8/v-deo.html
      And as I say, it's not just bedroom pop which gets the same kind of stick, rappers get regularly hated on if they pretend to be ghetto or gangster when they've had a comfortable upbringing.
