Highly recommend "Break Your Heart Right Back," "Step On Up," "better off," "Only 1," "Safety Net," "Quit" with Cashmere Cat and also "Cadillac Song" which isn't on streaming.
Quit with Cashmere Cat is a pure mystery to me on how it went completely under the radar but still has so many views on UA-cam. It’s my favourite of hers. POV and Breathin’ after that. @@evanwright9016 I agree with you but Tate McRae is absolutely not an industry plant - she got her start here on youtube and has been grinding since she's 13 to get to where she is
I’m a huge Taylor swift fan but I kinda agree with you. When she released folklore and evermore my entire taste in music shifted. I was always someone who was more into lyrics (that’s why I love Taylor in the first place) but with those albums it became amplified. To me midnights was a setback lyrically, though it does have its moments. you’re on your own kid and midnight rain are stand outs to me personally. I think when her focus veers into having a pop hit or a #1 that’s when it gets bad. In the fandom it’s a known thing that Taylor picks the worst singles. She goes for catchy instead of lyrical to get that radio hit. So the general public that doesn’t go out of their way to listen to anything other than her singles don’t think her lyrics are anything special. And maybe that’s her fault to some extent. But I hope her new album goes back to focusing on lyrics and she leaves the pop star thing behind for a while and just focuses on being an artist.
Well she is hinting that her next album is very focused on songwriting and I hope that it's true. I do like midnights a lot but I was expecting more. Also the 3 am version of midnights is far superior than the standard one
@@nupurmishra346 yea I feel like with the whole poetry thing it should be more lyric driven than sound driven. But you never know with her. I liked the 3am tracks way more than the standard edition tracks on first listen.
@@thema1998 I personally really liked it. I think it sits on a very interesting line between having slight pop moments and then having the more lyric focused moments. She put a lot of her humor into that record that I don’t think someone that’s just a casual Taylor swift enjoyer would understand and brush it off as simple or cringe writing. Although there are two songs I think were just plain unnecessary on the record and the lyrics give me second hand embarrassment. But overall I think it shows an interesting side of her lyric and storytelling ability. The production of the album is a completely different thing though because although we get some unique moments I definitely think she needs to change it up more when it comes to production. I really don’t think she was chasing a pop hit or moment on this record though. There’s no overly repetitive pop choruses to be sung over a tik tok dance challenge. Which is why I think her younger audience isn’t vibing with this record as much because I think lyrically and production wise it’s her most scathingly grown up record.
People don’t talk enough about how wilfully ignorant a lot of pop stans can be just because a song is “catchy”, yeah but so is chlamydia I appreciate Fantano for speaking his mind and not being afraid to give something a negative review, I feel like a lot of mainstream outlets are afraid to say anything negative for fear of exactly this bs
Putting Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple, and Brandi Carlisle on this list is like claiming you aren't racist or homophobic because you like Hendrix and Queen.
Unless the opinion being examined is "I don't like this music because a woman made it," no opinion in a vacuum is enough to decide someone's prejudices.
People aren't usually that upfront about their biases. I just don't liek beyonce's style from a taste side of things. I recognize that she is talented and deserves her recognition. Is that an opinion I am allowed to have!?
she has multiple styles tho so I question what style do you dislike? Bc someone can say they hate Kanyes style but have only listened to Yeezus and Jesus Is King. And any Ye fan can tell you College Dropout is nothing like Yeezus, same as Renaissance is nothing like 4. maybe it takes an avid listener to hear the nuance?
I think being known by other younger people in the dance social media world helped Tate McRae a lot in her singer-songwriter phase. She’s solid, I think this commercial style is flattering for her. She did notable competitions and TV gigs and presumably let go a Bayeriches Staatsballet scholarship around the time she was doing UA-cam.
Happy you made this video, a couple points: 1) I don't think it's unfair to say Taylor Swift is like Drake. She's better and more consistent than Drake, can make some genuinely great music, and produces hits just by putting her name on it. And they appeared in an Apple commercial together so for me, that seals it. 2) Does no one else find it EXTREMELY SUS that Tate McCrae went from sad girl Gen Zer to hyper sexual pop star in like...a minute? She's a legitimate example of an industry plant and everything with her feels so calculated. That being said, sure, I like a song here and there, but man...to defend her to the death is an indicator you're NPC, I'm sorry.
I dunno about industry plant yet it seems you gotta be a dreary monotone Monica contributing to teen girl depression or a stone cold hoochie to be a female music entertainer on UA-cam trending.
He hit it out of the park with his comparison to Drake. She absolutely is overrated and her zealous base pushes her far more than deserved (which doesn’t mean she is bad either!)
well drake makes absolute hits by putting his name on it as well so not a completely correct comparison, for a rapper drake is HUGE. Tate Mcrae is definitely not an industry plant she has been making music for years and has been an influencer for even longer. Misgony is a hatred of women or a belief that women aren't equal and should not have the same rights as men. Disliking a female artist or a song that happens to be made by a woman doesn't make someone a misoganist. A similar thing has been happening with movies as well. 1:51 As someone who does like Beyonce not liking her music or thinking she's overrated doesn't mean someone is racist or sexist.
@@tylerharaf5901 Indeed. If someone dislikes an artist because their a woman that would be sexist but merely disliking an artist whose female or a song that happens to be made by one is not sexist.

I still play tracks from both albums. All said, I still mostly agree with your assessment and fully appreciate your opinion.
Fantano is called a simp and a libtard for his good reviews on a group of artists and then he’s called a misogynist and racist for bad reviews on those same artists. It’s genuinely so funny and bizarre to see happen.
Growing up I rarely liked any female vocalists. At some point I decided to go out of my way to find some female vocalist songs and albums. Here are two I found that I liked; War Garden by Cold Beat. Tiny Star by Tiny Star and The Blasting company.
My favorite band of all time is Purity Ring, and Chvrches is a guilty pleasure. It's not that I'm a misogynist because I don't like the bands featured in this video. It's that radio pop is just not good, for the most part, musically, lyrically, production wise, or in any other way.
It's a thing in all areas of the media at the moment, get media attention by claiming racism or sexism if you don't get an award, or if some says they don't like your music/film/art/product. I mean, fair enough when those things are the definitive main reason but many time it just really isn't. Purity Ring are pretty cool BTW.
I love the Flo Milli shoutout! Also suggesting Doechii as the rap IT-girl, she's super charismatic, energetic, witty, and even has a good voice for pop cuts. Reminds me of early Azealia without the controversy
So with Beyoncé, I never really got the hype. I’ve listened to some of her most critically acclaimed stuff and it all has an aura of sameness. I’ll say she’s a crazy inventive performer but I just have never really felt her music, and she started a lot of musical trends that I’m not a fan of, she’s just not my cup of tea.
All big female artists get alot of misogynistic hate but not liking one of them doesnt make you misogynistic as long as it is for valid reasons beyond their gender. They are all popular and talented but you dont have to like them to notice they are talented (I am not sure if talented is the right word because its little strange and contradictory to say I dont like someones music while also saying they are talented but by talented I just meant they clearly have an ability to connect with people through music that makes people feel good hence why they are popular.)
That doesn't make any sense. Like, why don't you like them... because they're popular, because they're women or both? And, if it doesn't make you misogynistic, then what are you? Sheesh.

I thought that you would venture in some more indie music, you just talked about extremely pop artists and rap artists. There are so many interesting that are not that unknown but are not extremely popular female artists like Florence Welsh, Carly Rae Jepsen, Haim and others that fly a little bit under the radar like The Staves, Alice Merton and Amy Macdonald
I love sia, Enya, the cranberries, miley Cyrus, etc. but most pop and female rap honestly tends to be 1 dimensional songs that are about how the "singer" has all the guys chasing them. Then there are talented people I don't care for like Beyoncé because it's not my cup of tea. I don't like men that make soulless music either and tbh there's more men in music that I don't like than women. Take rap for example. Since the 90s rap songs that aren't about gangbanging, partying, dr*gs, or s*x are rarer than diamonds so I don't like 99% of new hip-hop. In summation, mediocrity+empty lyrics= me not liking you.
Two labels people use for others they don't like that have never made sense to me as negatives are "transphobe" and "misogynist" like being those things are supposed to be bad things.
I think it just comes down to personal tastes. I don't think I'll ever see what people like about Beyonce's music, but then it's not for me. I'm not interested in music to dance to, I don't care for vocal acrobatics and I don't find her songs relatable. I don't think that makes me racist or misogynistic though as my dislike of her music has nothing to do with the colour of her skin or her gender. I'd feel exactly the same way if it were being performed by a white man. Most modern pop music just isn't my thing. I feel exactly the same way about Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake and a lot of other male pop singers. Out of the modern crop of pop music, there's probably only 2 or 3 artists that I actually like (The Veronicas and Poppy are the first 2 that come to mind) and a handful more that have a song or 2 that I enjoy (Miley's Wreckingball, The Weeknd's Save Your Tears and a number of others). I also don't like Kid Rock or Nickelback or Maroon 5 or Train, artists who are (or were at one point) in a genre closer to what I'd normally listen to.

That Taylor and Drake comparison was pitch perfect. It's exactly how I feel about both of them - very, very talented people but kinda stuck in terms of musical evolution. For All the Dogs had some really good songs but was a boring album imo. Taylor's upcoming album feels very different to her last ten era-driven ones, so I'm certainly excited to see that musical evolution. I hope she'll be able to truly work to her potential. Also, she has a collaboration with Post Malone coming up? I've heard them compliment each other forever but I'm hesitant to see how they will work together on a song. Taylor's past collabs haven't exactly been amazing (excluding Kendrick)
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I've never understood the Beyonce hype. She's fine, but I don't get why people put her in the GOAT debates. Maybe its a generational thing, shes literally older than my parents
She has one of the strongest pipes in the game, great dancer and produces amazing shows. The goat title enters when comparing her quality (and even longevity) to modern artists

Beatopia is a pretty great record and her first album is pretty decent too! NIKI is someone who I think is often overlooked, she once again has a great singing voice and is also very talented with instruments. When will the world make peace with the fact that you can appreciate your indie records and your underground artists and still being able of recognizing the talent of a mainstream artist. And btw, maybe you didn’t mean to, but comparing Taylor with drake… boy… judging from your videos and the way I’ve seen you talk about music, I expected more from you… anyways, if she didn’t receive the attention she gets nowadays, she would arguably be considered as the indie darling of all pretentious music listeners (not saying you are one, really love your videos) and she would never be tested or doubted the way she is now. In my opinion, I love female artists in the old days like in the 70's to 90's such as Madonna, Blondie, etc but new singers I find are just annoying because their fanbases are a bit more radical. You can't say anything negative about Taylor Swift without having an army of swifities marching at your door with pitchforks and torches calling you mysogynistic.
I'm personally not really a Swiftie (more of a casual Taylor enjoyer) but I don't totally understand the Drake comparison. When Taylor makes songs that are so-so or just downright ass, it always feels like she intended for it to sound the way it does for better or for worse (Bad Blood, You Need To Calm Down, Anti-Hero, etc). Meanwhile I feel like Drake just doesn't try most of the time but people eat it up anyway because they love him. He kinda started the trend of making albums ridiculously long to farm streams, and while Taylor has released some long records they never feel like stream bait to me.
I wholeheartedly disagree about Midnights being “regressive” for Taylor as an artist. I think she’d making really good quality pop music and there is a place for that. Not everyone wants to listen to “Folklore” and “Evermore” type albums from her. She can make them and that’s great to show she has more serious artistry but I appreciate her pop music and think she’s one of the better artists doing it right now.

I'd argue she only has two albums that are phenomenal from front to back but I feel like her deep cuts often go unnoticed by the general public because they hear her hits like Into You and Problem and thank u, next and think that's all she has to offer. It's actually insane how good some of her deep cuts are.
I enjoy her biggest hits but it’s the other tracks on her albums that are just amazing. I wish she didn’t do all this relationship bullshit, she was my favourite girly pop 🥲
@@thisiskitta the stuff she engages in is unfortunate, but personally it doesn't stop me from enjoying her music. Maybe its just because I'm a recovering Kanye fan but her antics just don't phase me.

I’ve only listened to Yours Truly and Positions fully but those are great albums imo, YT is a memorable and strong debut album and Positions is just great front to back with maybe one or two songs I occasionally skip. Ariana has really good deep cuts that are slept on and her main fanbase isn’t a fan of her rnb but she’s heavily influenced by rnb and has the voice for it
@@niyaakbar1098 Yeah its funny to me that any time she goes in an R&B direction her fans think it sucks which is beyond me cause those are some of her best tracks. Highly recommend listening to Sweetener and Thank, U Next if that's your thing, they're not full on R&B but it's mixed in pretty nicely
i honestly agree with everything you said. i'll just add that even when some female artists don't make the greatest music they still put on a show a thousand times better than most male artists out there. i actually can't name a lot of great current male performers besides Bruno Mars, BTS, Tyler the Creator, and.... yeah, that's it. Brockhampton used to be awesome too
Just look outside your pop sphere, both binary genders and LGBTQ community do put amazing shows. Example turnstile, 100 gecs and St Vincent.
I’d also add Usher but he comes from an era where male performers still had to put on a good show, he’s insanely talented on stage/live

Never mind that Fantano assisted in further exposing Alexis Marshall's abusive behavior by giving Kristin Hayter a chance to speak about it in one of his interviews with her, dude's a chauvinist pig for not liking an album.
Apparently, you're only misogynistic when lightly critiquing the stan armies of borderline industry plants. As much as I love Kristin's output thus far.
@@K.Angelina What did you think about The Tortured Poets Department? 🤔
All her songs are the same

People don’t talk enough about how wilfully ignorant a lot of pop stans can be just because a song is “catchy”, yeah but so is chlamydia

I just don't liek beyonce's style from a taste side of things. I recognize that she is talented and deserves her recognition. Is that an opinion I am allowed to have!?
Of course! No one should be judged by their opinions!
she has multiple styles tho so I question what style do you dislike? Bc someone can say they hate Kanyes style but have only listened to Yeezus and Jesus Is King. And any Ye fan can tell you College Dropout is nothing like Yeezus, same as Renaissance is nothing like 4. maybe it takes an avid listener to hear the nuance?
why wouldnt you be "allowed" to have that opinion?
No because according to this you probably hate women AND black people. Wtf
You know you are
I think being known by other younger people in the dance social media world helped Tate McRae a lot in her singer-songwriter phase. She’s solid, I think this commercial style is flattering for her. She did notable competitions and TV gigs and presumably let go a Bayeriches Staatsballet scholarship around the time she was doing UA-cam.
Happy you made this video, a couple points:
1) I don't think it's unfair to say Taylor Swift is like Drake.
That being said, sure, I like a song here and there, but man...to defend her to the death is an indicator you're NPC, I'm sorry.
please do elaborate on what "industry plant" means to you
I dunno about industry plant yet it seems you gotta be a dreary monotone Monica contributing to teen girl depression or a stone cold hoochie to be a female music entertainer on UA-cam trending.
No but Tate McRae is good I promise :(
He hit it out of the park with his comparison to Drake.
If anything she’s even less of an influencer than someone like taylor who had rich parents buy a label
I think midnights was a setback for Taylor artistically but tbh one mid albulm doesn’t take away her talent or her discography folklore evermore and 1989 are those legendary album im sure like drake taylor can make her next albulms boring and would still be the biggest thing but drake is soo inconsistent so to compare him with Taylor seems unfair and shes a great songwriter is not a limiting experience its her songwriting that sets her apart
Beyonce is great and so is renaissance but I hate that people think that its that revolutionary. artists in the alternative dance/electronic pop sphere have been doing this shit for years but bc shes filthy rich and mega famous she gets all the accolades for inventing music
I don't think her being rich has anything to do with it but her fame yes
That's.. the whole reason people are impressed. Taking a risk, genrebending when she has everything to lose and delivering hard.

Misgony is a hatred of women or a belief that women aren't equal and should not have the same rights as men. Disliking a female artist or a song that happens to be made by a woman doesn't make someone a misoganist. A similar thing has been happening with movies as well.

Sheesh.
@@TexasChick45 I have just re read my comment its very badly worded will edit after this. I like many female artists. If you dont like all female music artists then yeah you are misogynistic but I just meant if someone says they dont like Taylor Swift or 1 female music artist it doesnt mean they are misogynistic there are plenty of valid reasons not to like individual artists for example Taylor Swift is very popular and clearly talented but all that I have heard from her apart from one or 2 songs I really just dont like they are often too repetitive over the top cringe for me although tbf I believe those are more her older big hit stuff and not all of her discography is like that I also dont like her carbon footprint and how she seems to be about her pj flights but I do like her lgbt+ open allyship and she also seems good on other progessive topics a good example of all of this is her song we need to calm down. Its not my type of music at all the video is over the top camp and cringy for me which i am not a fan of but the video and song also has progressive messaging I like and agree with it including advocating for fans to sign a petition for equality in American laws.
I'm called a pick me because I think a lot of sad girl lesbian indie sucks. I'm a gay girl lol I can't win.

This is the first time I've heard of Tate McRae. I am a bonafide Swiftie so I am probably biased. She's one of my favorite songwriters.
He’s not mysogonistic. People are dumb and get in their feelings over their Standom.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I've never understood the Beyonce hype. She's fine, but I don't get why people put her in the GOAT debates. Maybe its a generational thing, shes literally older than my parents

Female artists that I think are underrated and don't really get mentioned enough are Benee, beabadoobee and NIKI.
Benee's debut album 'Hey u x" is really good, good range of features and has that alt vibe to it. Benee has a wonderful voice.
beabadoobee is hella talented both vocally and musically. Beatopia is a pretty great record and her first album is pretty decent too!
NIKI is someone who I think is often overlooked, she once again has a great singing voice and is also very talented with instruments. I really love your content and I can tell you are very thoughtful with the words you say, but your takes on Taylor are really hard to digest. I’ll keep watching your videos and just skip them whenever I see a picture of her on the cover or whenever I hear you mention her. Thanks for the work you put in making this ❤️
I agree on your commentary about being able to appreciate mainstream pop and independent & ignored smaller artists but Taylor Swift is honestly immensely overrated lol I think he did a pretty good job at showing how you can appreciate it all, he gave plenty of examples so to me this feels simply like a Tswift fanatic comment 🤷🏻♀️
Oh the comments are going to be spicy for this one
I don't care for anything past 1995.
Eh, with Megan and Cardi, it's at least partly that they are megastars from biting the style of other women like Nicky, Azealia Banks, and Cupcakke hard, and having it brushed off because they behave better...basically Cardi B is the Macklemore of raunch rap, tho in spite of it, WAP still goes hard

@7:16-7:34 You mailed it w/ the Megan Thee Stallion hate. These are the exact reasons why Megan gets on much hate online. It has absolutely nothing to do with the music whatsoever. Although, I do think that the people that hate her are just weirdo Barbz & bots claiming to be fans of that loser she sent to prison. I really don't think that dude has fans at all.
No the reason people don’t like Megan the Stalian is because she’s one note she always sounds confident which on paper is good but when that’s all you have it’s boring even when she is saying depressing shit it’s still super confident which on paper is good but with the rest it’s just boring
Both but one more than the other
I was thinking about this today because my friends in highschool are say they hate Taylor Swift because she makes bad music but they don't list em to any women.
I always think this about woman specifically in rock music. I think they get a lot of hate but are really good...the band Haim comes to mind. I honestly don't get it.
i dunno who tate mccray is, but i'm a woman and I know that fantano is not sexist. It's actually not sexist to notice when a woman makes bad music vs when one has good music. Sorry ladies with bad taste in music lol
Ask Fantano what he thinks of Chelsea Wolf, Zola Jesus, or Angel Olsen and just try calling him a misogynist afterward.
PS i like megan the stallion and yes i am a nympho so that's partly why
💖💖💖
Honestly, people will just find any reason to hate Fantano besides just saying they don’t like his reviews. It’s fine to not like the man, but please can we stop trying to paint him as this monster of a person?
focusrite scarlett input light on in the background lol
