    I had no idea this is ready for release. I knew it was in development for several years. But nobody has been talking about it, let alone about it getting released this year.

      So weird. I saw the reveal trailer a month before its release. There was even a demo link hidden on the game website. Was fun to hack and get access to and download before the release! Sadly they removed it now but it was an interesting intro. Not as original an experience as Talos 1's demo, but definitely worth it. I preordered it and downloaded it day 1 and beat it in 5 days! :D Later went through another couple times and got the other endings. Such a great game and a great experience. Highly recommend. As far as I'm concerned this should have been in the running for GOTY at the Game Awards but it wasn't even mentioned. So sad. It didn't get a lot of promotion it seems and people just seem wholly unaware of its existence which is a letdown. It's such a good gem. More people should be playing this.

      @@BrandonBlume Yes I agree 100 percent with you on Talos 2. I was looking for UT5 games and it was not on ANY list I just happened on it by accident. The game is a GOTY, keeps you coming back, nice graphics, music. Its fun to play not just look at.

    I loved the first game. I had no idea this even came out. Just came across it on the Steam home page.

    This looks beautiful. I loved the first Tales, which I played on iPad, but have since upgraded to full PC. This would be stunning on VR!!

    2023 continues to deliver.
    I enjoyed the demo despite never playing the first game. I'm not a huge puzzle fan. It takes a standout game in the puzzle genre to get my attention. I enjoyed The Witness, and the recent release of Pathfinder. I missed The Talos Principle but instantly purchased this one.

    One of the most impactful moments in TP1 was when it forced me to think a philosophical problem.
    Games are art.

    This year is positively ridiculous. At this point, we're well past "best year in this millenium" but the way it's going it won't be beaten in decades yet it seems. I mean, at this point, great games are being passed over because they can't crack the top 15 or 20 this year alone - considering how many shitty years we've had lately, that's nothing short of unbelievable.

    • @dgayle2348
      @dgayle2348 Рік тому

      What are your top 5 this year?

    • @nexarath
      @nexarath Рік тому +1

      @@dgayle2348 Yeah, super tough one man. I mean, obviously, you have to have BG3 and CP2077 up there, plus Alan Wake 2 and RE4 just a bit behind them. But, like, even not looking at the console releases, just the PC stuff, there is at least another five games with a shot at the top five and another like 15 for the other 6 top 10 spots.
      I mean, this is a year when games like Ghostrunner 2 possibly can't crack the top 10 or at least 5, a game that would in some other years be a legit GOTY contender. Also, stuff like Talos Principle 2, Laika, Dave the Diver, a million other AA or indie titles that are just straight up bangers. Best damn year ever.

      we gave it a 9/10, we do previews though, and those are NOT scored. Also we don't review games that are in Early Access, those are counted as Impressions.

    Is this game anti-religion?

    • @jrsmith1013
      @jrsmith1013 5 місяців тому +1

      I'm only halfway through the game, if I remember to I'll edit when I finish it.
      I think it is but it's not that simple. I think the game tries to present a way in which people can get attached to and live for religion. Many of the people of New Jerusalem had a ton of regret and pain and the response was religion. It seems like it helped a lot of individuals, but at a cost of making those individuals also very short sighted and then they vote for politicians who are equally short-sighted. The game is always reminding you that the city and humanity are functioning on thin ice and they are holding it back. It shows the positives in religion and is allowing me to choose myself but on the whole it definitely feels like it doesn't believe religion is good

    • @riverblack123
      @riverblack123 5 місяців тому

      @@jrsmith1013 Got those vibes from the game too. The devs 100% belong to the "religion is for more primitive people' atheist type. Which is funny since the game allows you to make philosophical choices but you can never choose to disagree that robots can be considered human and disagree that god doesn't exist

    I agree the setting is amazing. This isnt a 9 tho. The first was definitely a 10. This one is like a 7 for me. The story isnt that good. The middle of the game nothing happens. They drew out a long bad story/plot. I dont think how I answered pandora made a difference in the world. It was such cookie cutter bs seeing pandora at the end of each tower. Really didnt look forward to it after a few times. I didnt like any of the puzzles inside the mega structure. I didnt like the ramp puzzles too. Also the puzzles got easier as the game went on. Still there were some really good puzzles in there.

    • @jankowalski1501
      @jankowalski1501 10 місяців тому +1

      hmmmm u sure Pandora is not making a difference? There are like 5 endings possible, I do not know which dialogues change the outcome, but if you finished the game only once, it is very likely u simply went 1 path without even realising that the choices u made had an impact.
      Difficulty - remember that TP1 was also not that hard till Gehenna, so let's see what Croteam brings into the game witg DLC. Also the general concepr for puzzles was not to increase difficulty with progress of the game, but rather mix easy-hard puzzles across all worlds. I did not got a feeling puzzles where easier at the end (although, some worlds definitely felt easier than others, as if different ppl where designing/testing them).
      Big pluses for me: city area with all little easter eggs and even few puzzles to solve from 1st part, I loved it. Also I loved how the story ended, what was really happening to the world and with Athena, I think this concept was amazing. TP1 felt very isolating up till Gehenna, where u met more robots, and which in return felt the world is a bit more alive. TP2 totally skyrocketed this feeling. Which is good, I think it allowed to introduce player to far more concepts, or at least made them feel more realistic, i was more involved with them after I got to know the characters representing them.
      Elohim and Milton - I only fully realised what they did in TP1 after playing TP2 :), so this was covered very nicely too, and transition from TP1 to TP2 story-wise, I feel is very good and feels natural.
      Yeah, definitely strong 8 for me, maybe even 8+ from sentiment to TP1 :) If below points can be addressed, I would give 9 for sure. If you give 10 to TP1, I have no idea how you can give 7 to TP2 :)
      Megastructure - I agree, puzzles were totally too easy. But, this is 100% content on main path, so every player must make it.But, I would love to see some hidden puzzles there, EXTREMELY hard. Like Gehenna-hard x2. It would be amazing. TYHey could also be hidden, filled with some mystery too, something for players to explore totally away from main path or even secondary parts of the game covered elsewhere.
      Some negatives for me:
      - animals appearing- teleporting into the map out of no where, 1 time a deer teleported almost on top of my head. Every time it happened. I was totally put out of immersion. Common Croteam. u can do better than this :)
      - some puzzles can be totally solved wihout actually solving them by jumping on surrounding environment and going directly to the end mechanism of the puzzle.
      - Prometheus flame - there is 0 reward, 0 achievment for collecting all flames, and finding all 24 took me like probably 15 hours, which is 1/4 of total play time. Also at 1 point there is dialogue line in one of the towers, where player has to decide, if humanity should earn technology and solutions by hard work, or by having it gifted to them without effort. I think this is direct correlation to the flames feature that allow player to solve the puzzle for free. I feel this whole flame concept was not explored enough in general, rewards wise and also impact wise on the story. Maybe something to think about for DLC in terms of the story, but adding achievement for collecting all flames should be added to the game for sure.
      - At some point, around mid game, there was so much reading/listening, that I was a bit tired of it. I had a feeling like "omg, not again another msg with full wall of text to read through"...maybe some parts can be removed from the game entirely without any real impact on the storyline or introducing player to certain phisophical cases?
      - some very annoying bugs with flickering shadows all over the map or smearing on moving objects. This can be related to UE5 current tech though, so hopefully will be fixed with time when Epic provides new big updates to the engine
      - waypoints - not placed too good sometimes, or the world layout is that complicated/unfortunate that on few maps I had problems to navigate to the puzzle by using waypoints. I followed waypoint direction and still ended up some place else. Good example is last world in the game with a lot of round valleys in which puzzles are located. Maybe it's me only, but yeah, definitely had problems finding my way on few maps.
      - map layout - few maps are blocking player movement too much, good example is one of eastern part of the world, in which player can not go where he wants right away after leaving shuttle because everywhere are barriers. So you actually have to run around whole this area by following 1 path, I found this very annoying, and I think there is no reason for such layout to be in this game.
      - not a big fun of chasing blue cloud for getting a star. This is trivial task, not that fun to do, and totally not matching the climate of the game, which is a puzzle game, not Super Mario game. I love the music for this task though. In TP1 stars where hardest tasks, even finding a location of a star could took heavy hours, not mentiong solving the puzzle for it. In TP2 there is huge monument showing where the star is, with possible UI option to have it on radar for free too, and on top of that, solving like 1/3 of them is a simple, no brain task of chasing a bubble. Yeah, I think this was not a good choice for the game, or at least it should include solving some additional puzzles/problems (which ok, like 2-3 times required this when the cloud went into one of the puzzles, but like 99% of the time spent on those stars is a no brainer running around the map).
      - lack of easter eggs other than city area related to TP1. In TP1 there were some nice easter eggs, they were amazing. Serious Sam also had huge amount of easter eggs. Why 0 easter eggs in TP2? Or I missed them all completely?
      - can be subjective, but when playing TP2 I missed "standard" lego puzzles from TP1 a lot. Would love to have them incorporated in TP2 too (other than 6 examples on the exhibition in the city).
