WOW! This adventure is easily one of the highlights of my career! The Southern Cassowary is easily one of my favorite animals on earth, and it's no exaggeration that they are true living dinosaurs. These massive birds are equipped with many of the same attributes of their extinct kin such as feathers, impressive crests and even sharp knife-like talons. Although these birds can attack and potentially kill a human being, they are vegetarians and feed mostly on fruit. There are plenty of other prehistoric creatures that still call this planet home, should I try and find them too? Let me know in the comments!
Special thanks to Cameron Constance of Constance Conservation for additional shots of this adventure, and Spencer from @MyWildBackyard with his help on this killer thumbnail.

KILLER intro. Not even that far in and I’m hooked
Hahaha that was the plan 🤧
I had the exact same thought. I literally musked at about the 2 minute mark
Today's Dinos be crazy
Henceforth you shall be known as Jurassic Jack, and I bet another one of your dreams is to get up close with a Komodo dragon👍
Haha indeed it is! Sadly I had to cancel my Komodo trip I had for this year due to funding and UA-cam issues, but I’m planning to go next year to film them 👀
@@JacksWorldofWildlife hey yall still thinking of doing the Wallace's giant bee?
Yes be very afraid of turkey Elvis
Australian animals make me remember Steve Irwin (RIP) which makes me remember the infamous South Park thumb episode. I think cassowaries might turn the tables in bracing ways when it comes to the thumb treatment.
Season 2 South Park is so bloody good!
You've gotten so much better at your videos good job bro stay safe
I appreciate that
The oppressors are suppressing you? Nooooo!!! This shall not be permitted! Haha
Wow. What a trip you have experienced. Tnx for sharing. Amazing animals
Common youtube recommend this video!!!!
Wow this was fascinating, I'm happy she wasn't hungry for a humanoid. Incredible creature kind of turkeyish and very peaceable. Thanks as always, Jack.
Glad you enjoyed it, I was happy she was a frugivore 😂
Kinda looks like a psychedelic Emu! They can carve you up too btw lol.✌
Yes they can! Haha
I remember when I played far cry 3 as a little kid I thought these things were too crazy to be real. I’ll never forget how surprised I was when I learned it is actually real
Brilliant. Would love a herping/wildlife trip around Australia one time.
Love this video!!!
what an amazing find! your dedication is wild. thanks for all your content, jack. keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Told y’all
Love your Videos! UA-cam Promote or give more impressions for this man!
Thanks so much!
For the algorithm! @@JacksWorldofWildlife
Jack: "Will we find the animal we're after? Only time will tell..."
Me: *looks at thumbnail and B-roll footage* hmmmm... let's see where this goes... 😁
😂 a regular detective
Would love to see you do a video on Crocodile Monitors and/or Komodo Dragons, Earth's other remaining dinosaurs. It would've been really cool if Steve Irwin was still around, you guys would've made a good team with this stuff. He was who I grew up watching, what a great dude.
I may be filming them next year 👀
First here👍
Darn I thought I was first..
Jack, from a biological/genetic standpoint, are the Cassowaries closely related to Emus or Ostriches?
They are close cousins to the emu, the other large bird found in Australia! More closely related than to ostriches although they are all cousins on some level!
What a magnificent bird. Seems like it is quite successful trip. And the video production quality has taken a big leap 👍
Many thanks!
Incredible footage
Tremendous footage Jack. What an incredible creature.
Truly a legendary encounter
These have always fascinated me!
Me too!
I would almost kill to see you and Andrew Ucles do any kind of a collaboration video!!! 😍😂 You two are genuinely so passionate and smart about wildlife and SO FUNNY and SO GOOFY!! I might fracture a rib laughing so hard while watching you two together 🤣 🥰
😂 I’m always open to collabs!
Oh my goodness Jack, I cannot believe you found a Cassowary in the wild!!!! And how close you got to it, TRULY INCREDIBLE!!!! This is definitely one of my top 3 favorite videos of yours!😍 Thank you (and your camera guy) for your patience and dedication to find one of them in this rainforest!🙏
Glad you enjoyed it! Easily one of my top 3 favorite videos I filmed so you have good taste!
👍
Beat the algorithm!
Jack and his cameraman never disappoint! 😎A truly beautiful footage and an unique and magical experience! 🤠
😎😎😎
It’s frightening how much noise there is in that rain forest just from animals and creatures. Being there at night would be the worst feeling in the world
Luckily the cicadas go to sleep at night, the nocturnal cast of sound makers are a little quieter
Another dope video from you man, I’m 28 and am fascinated. I only say that to say this, Your content intrigues all ages, at any walk of life. Keep up the good work dude
I appreciate that! 😎
Wow! What a cool creature!! So scary and beautiful!
It really is!
Can you do a huge bumble bee sting video! Never seen anyone do them and they hurt 😂
Good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Why are they suppresing the vid? And how do u know that!? Just curious love ur content
Much lower rate of UA-cam showing it to people that I can see in my data. Just stinks, it’s a great video!
@@JacksWorldofWildlife oh ok got u and yeah it deff does but we love ur content I can only really speak for myself however I love ur content
Amazing video!
Glad you think so!
Such a beautiful creature
Crazy!
Yay!!! It's here!!!.....
You had to make a video on the only animals that terrify me, big land birds, lol. Ever since I went through a drive through zoo in Missouri, and an Osterich was stalking me, I've been terrified of em ever since. I decided then, they're not birds, they're dinosaurs! Good stuff as usual Jack.
Haha they sure are! Nothing to be embarrassed about being afraid of!
Sweet find! I love watching this video and the platypus video! As much as I enjoy the sting videos I love the pure excitement of these and I always learn something.
Wasn't initially going to include this bit as it's likely boring seeing as you've shown them off before, and I hate being THAT guy. In fact this is the only time i'll ask a question like this: Ever consider taking a "nip" from a toe biter? I seem to remember those bugs somehow being so painful all you can do is roll around and scream! I wouldn't have asked but in my explorations south of where I live, I found one recently and remembered the horror stories and a certain video!
Either way. Keep making the great content!
I always thought these birds look like velociraptors, can definitely see where they evolved from
☆Wowzers Jack!!! Cassies are usually pretty mellow, but stay clear around the rutt and eggy times! They've been known to be able to kick a hole through chain-link fences!!! Otherwise, like i stated pretty mellow usually; but its not the bird you pet-lol! Mucho respect an appreciation mate♡♡♡Maybe one day you might hunt down a shoe-bill bird, another dino!!☆
Maybe!!
Such an amazing creature. We have emus where I live and they can be scary enough. A cassowary though, I’m happy to see them on a video. A bit scary in person when you can see what they can do. Brilliant video. Thanks for visiting. 😊
Yes they are!
Good video. Good dinosaurs.
I had one stomping around my sleeping area in the jungle of Far North Queensland when I did survival course in the military. Will never forget waking up at about 3am hearing it calling from about 50m away in the dark. Was a long night lol. It came back the next day and I ended up seeing it about the same distance away walking past, must've been a route it took for water or food. Wasn't the best feeling being alone in the jungle with a Cassowary nearby lol.
😂 quite literally like being in the jungle with a velociraptor or something
Commenting to beat that algorithm!!
We can beat it together!
Could use captions during the loudest parts, it would help me understand what you are saying
I’ll make sure to remember that for the future, there should be automatic captions UA-cam makes that are fairly accurate
@JacksWorldofWildlife yes they are there, thank you! Sometimes, they are spot on. Other times, they make the show more hilarious than it had any business being in the first place. 😅
🦖🐍🦕🕷🦘🐉🐍🦎
Must be a weird balance to want to creep through the woods to not alert animals to your presence while also trying to make just enough noise to not surprise them either.
Is this one you wanted us to comment on to screw the algorhythms right back. Good vid, funny stuff and interesting as always.
Thank you!
He's so pretty! Nice find!
I think so too!
Nice Jack your up in the Daintree forest such beauty mate and that encounter is incredible..stay safe out there.!! 🧡
Thank you, I will!
Screw the algorithm!!! Go the cassowary!!! 👍👍👍🤘🤘🇦🇺
😎😎😎
I like this video, keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
What a beautiful animal, I cannot get over the size of those legs.. definitely a creature too be respected
Yes they are!
I subbed when you had like 1k subs and commented that you gonna be big one time :D
here we are
Legend!
Keep up the great work, jacko
Thanks, will do!
Jack for president!!! #coyotesux
😂
That big bird probably goes Schmook Schmook. lol. Have a good weekend, Jack.
When are we gonna see a hippo on the channel?
Maybe sooner than you’d think! Whenever I can get to Africa hippos are high on my list!
Great video Jack 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
This is so freaking AMAZING!!! This is one of my most favorite animals that I know I will never see in it's natural habitat like you! Thank you for taking us along on the journey!!
Glad you enjoyed it! It was an amazing experience for sure haha
CONTRATULATIONS on such a wonderful encounter! It's almost ironic to me how you were able to see this majestic dinosaur up so close but could only look at the platypus from relatively further away. I'm glad the encounter was safe for everyone. You and the team got plenty of beautiful footage, and I'm glad the auto-caption system was able to pick your voice out from the cicada symphony around you, because at times it was a little tricky to hear you.
It was DEAFENING in the jungle 😂 made it easier to sneak up on the cassowary though.
What a beautiful bird! Thank you Jack!
Thank you too!
Great Video 👍
Thanks 👍
Commented 👍🏼
Legend!
SOMETHING
Haha legend!
Nice
Very nice
Great content! Nice work!
Much appreciated!
Hey Jack, how long are you actually going to be in australia for? If you find the time, you should try make your way down to the spencer gulf, Australian Giant Cuttlefish are starting to migrate down for their annual breeding season in May-August. Definitely will be worth the look if you have time!
Wow! Sadly I won’t be able to make that migration, but this is far from my last trip to Australia! Maybe next time!
@@JacksWorldofWildlife it’s definitely a once in a life-time experience for most people, I’ve only been once myself and it was amazing. Didn’t see just cuttlefish but also a bunch of other stuff such as Magpie Perch, Ornate Boxfish, Prawns and the lot. Would seriously recommend for next time you’re here!
Thank you, Jack.
Wow!
Beautiful -dinosaur- bird!
You're very welcome
That beauty, could shred you in a minute, but seemed quite at peace with you. Absolute monumental moment for you. Well worth the hard work. ❤
Absolutely!
Cool video, but what about the Saltwater Crocodile (lives in the northern parts of Australia). That's a "dinosaur" and it's much more deadly than the cassowary.
Crocodilians aren't dinosaurs though. They're distant cousins of dinosaurs, both belonging to the clade Archosauria, but birds are actually nested within the Dinosauria - ergo they're literal dinosaurs, while crocodiles are just somewhat related to dinosaurs.
@@BugsandBiology Ah, I see where you're coming from. In terms of evolution, dinosaurs were closer to birds than reptiles. It's just that usually when somebody talks about a "living dinosaur", they mean it coexisted with dinosaurs.
@@jazzabighits4473stretching the definition that much would mean basically anything alive could be called a dinosaur. Mammals were around during dinosaur times. As were frogs, snakes, spiders, crabs, grasshoppers, cockroaches and countless other living animal groups.
Saying crocodiles are dinosaurs cause they lived alongside them is like saying humans are mammoths cause we once coexisted with mammoths.
Yes @bugsandbiology is right, while crocodilians and birds are both related to dinosaurs, birds are the only ones that are true dinosaurs.
Just throwing out a comment to help the UA-cam algorithm know what's up
Thank you!
Love the video I have a farm down the street from my house that has 2 of these magnificent creatures I go there about 3 times a year to see them. Simply incredible animals!
That is awesome!
Jack be careful.
Wow excellent! Congrats finding one!
Thanks!
Are bears on your bucket list for this year? 🤨
I love a good bear! Only seen two species so far, and I DID already film a bear video last year I just haven’t uploaded it yet 👀
@@JacksWorldofWildlife did you see a black bear and a grizzly bear?
🐥🦖
"The cassowary has often been labelled "the world's most dangerous bird",although it pales in comparison to the common ostrich that is recorded to kill two to three humans per year in South Africa." - Wikipedia
But, the cassowary has killed 2 people in the last 100 years (and with perhaps more deaths among New Guinea natives that are unrecorded).
Awesome species Jack! I've always been a big fan of the of the animals during the time of the Smilodon and Terror birds. I suppose a 7 to 9 foot Carnivorous Bird might have been a riskier target to film.....if they were still alive , that is. As always stay safe Jack.
2k views in 3 days. YT is a bastard...
Indeed 🥲
Hands down, best cassowary video on the internet. The emotion and the passion are literally palpable the entire time you’re watching, and I would never have imagined that you could get so close to a wild cassowary in such remote habitat. So cool that the juveniles are curious like that, definitely fits the Theropod raptor analog. You did such a good job building up the suspense and the adventure, one of my favorite videos from you for sure. Great stuff!
Thanks so much boys! Easily one of my favorites I’ve done.
You should probably just voice over the (whole) video so the ambient noise isn't so distracting
It’s part of the adventure. Can’t polish nature, sometimes it’s loud!
I am sooo happy for you! :) :) :) And what a beautiful animal!
Thank you so much!!
Thanks, Jack! Very cool!
Glad you liked it!
well all birds are Dinosaurs jack 😅
True
I wonder if they taste anything like turkey or chicken.
Haha not sure, they’re probably pretty tough but I could never eat something so beautiful.
Can U Please Help Me Find Every Bug in Ontario find the closest hotel to 73 Poplar St Belleville Ontario🎉
Dinosaurs? BAHAHAHAHA! 🤣. Don't you know they are a government fairytale? They never existed.
You’re literally looking at one lol
@@JacksWorldofWildlife listen jack, dinosaurs are a clever way to hide the truth about giants and dragons, which DID exist. Government = satan. God bless 💙
He looks delicious
😢
@@JacksWorldofWildlife Aw y know I'm kiddin!
But l was kinda wondering if Aboriginal People hunted them...?
My favorite bird.🥰😍
Mine too!
