I need to stay off the internet for a while. Over the past couple months, I bought a Quad Cortex, a K10.2, Temple board, flight case, and modules, a Cioks DC-7, and now a Charvel DK24 Pro Mod infinity blue guitar. Now I'm looking at this Tonex pedal, midi controller, and maybe a HX Effects! What's wrong with me! 😆
I hope IK release sometime a combined MultiFX pedal with all 4 X-GEAR and XTONE pedal sounds, more switches, and Amplitube + ToneX software cross-platform compatibility. NOW THAT WOULD BE THE DEFINITIVE ECOSYSTEM. Tone Capture and Axe I/O hardware included. You'd have all of your sounds everywhere: Mac/PC, iPhone/iPad & your pedalboard. I would gladly spend 1000$ on a device like that with my eyes closed.

Haven’t used amplitube in a while, but I thought it had MIDI capability built in it. I don’t see that feature on the Tonex software ??? Would be nice😎😎
Been thinking of doing this, but what’s the latency like when changing preset to preset, is it more noticeable than scene changes in the helix or QC? As generally there’s a more noticeable latency when switching presets on Modellers, say from clean to a dirty signal for example. Be good to see and hear it please?

MIDI capability is pretty much standard on these pedals. The MOOER PREAMP LIVE, Line 6 HX series, etc all have the ability to control parameters on the devices through a MIDI controller. Those units also have the ability to SEND MIDI CC# to external devices so that when you change a preset on the device, it sends MIDI CC# to the other devices at the same time. The TONEX pedal cannot do this and I really think it's a missed opportunity. Let say I have the IK X-DRIVE and X-SPACE pedals. Each has their own presets. How awesome would it be if I could change the preset on the TONEX pedal and then have it change to the correct presets on the X-DRIVE and X-SPACE pedals? I shouldn't have to buy another external controller for this. Maybe they'll add this in future firmware updates, but IK is pretty slow to update their firmware on their existing devices, so I'm not holding my breath.
Sure that use case doesn't work? I'm using the midi thru to change Tonex preset and parameters along with my axe-fx settings and/or presets no problem.

So I can't send CC#12 to the X-DRIVE, CC#13 to the X-SPACE when changing the preset on the TONEX pedal itself. Sure it can respond to MIDI messages, but it can't send multiple messages by changing presets.
@@keithbenedict8764 Oh, yeah, you're right. Thing is, I had never considered to use the Tonex pedal as a controller but to be remotely controlled like the rest in my setup. So I already had a Midi footswitch that I daisy-chain via thrus, then set devices (including Tonex pedal) from omni to only recieve commands from certain channels and got pretty much all I want. Considering that I get a little over 2 Tonex pedals for the price of a Helix LT, that footswitch does not exactly break the deal for me.

For me, I just don't see a purpose for it. TONEX is meant for playing live. To even come close to a Helix, you'd need a couple TONEX pedals and lots and lots of stomps or a multi-fx pedal to do the same thing as a single Helix LT or HX Stomp can do. Does TONEX sound better than the amp/cab models in the Helix? Probably. Will your audience know the difference. No way. So I just don't understand the use case for this pedal. I wouldn't use it during music production. The app is far simpler to use.
It’s great the you can control tonex with a midi controller but can you use tonex to control something like a timeline or bigsky without the need of a midi controller? I’m planning on getting a tonex and looked through the user manual online but the midi section is not that big to be honest

Say I set up button A to go from gain 5 to gain 10 (when pressed again) on my Tonex Say I then: 1. press a different button (button B) 2. then go BACK and press button A (which is now at gain 10) How do I make it so that when I go from any buttons (2-5) and click on button 1, it defaults to that original "gain 5" position? (the first of the "2 clicks" of button A) Hope I am clear! I also purchased some of your captures. They sound great!
My pleasure and thanks for grabbing some captures, really glad you like them! With the Morningstar midi controller you can set a switch to toggle between 2 different settings. So you could program button A to go back and forth between the 5 to 10 and back. Hope that answered the question :-)
@@JasonSadites I think the problem is I have that set up with 2 "presses" for gain @ 5 and the second is gain @ 10. So I play a solo, hit it again, the gain goes to 10, solo is done and I hit it again to go back to 5. Now, I hit button B and when I go BACK to button A, it goes to the gain 10 patch because it was on the gain 5 patch when I left it. I would like that to always default to the first "press" preset (gain 5). Any tips?
Is there a list of the CC message numbers related to the TONEX parameters online anywhere? I don't see a list in the product manual or the quick start guide.
To reduce space at minimum, would be possible from Tonex, send a program change on an eventide H9 depending on the program you load from bank? In order to call only programs on tonex and recal the relative effect on external units?
I have been watching your videos and you seem to have gone pretty deep into Tonex and how to use it. I have been really trying to get some help with my Tonex. I have gotten no where. I have an Eleven rack and the plan was to use that for effects like delay and chorus etc. and use the Tonex for all the amp and cabinet sounds. I want to be able to switch rigs / patches on both at the same time. I have tried emailing vendors and it's been no help. Can you help me or point me to someone who knows this stuff? I really appreciate any help I can get on this. Thank you

Great explanation, that's awesome! - i was wondering if a simple 'next preset' and 'prev preset' can also be programmed to just run through the presets no matter of the banks? i couldn't find this in the manual. I think that's one of the things that i don't like as much about the tonex, that you can't just use the footswitches to run through the presets without having to step on two switches at a time to change banks..
You can actually do this by using a dual switch plugged into the Exp port. You then have the option to either go up/down banks or up/down presets serially as you would like to do. I have not found a way to do this via midi though - which is definitely a missing feature that they hopefully could add in a future firmware update... right IK M!? Cheers

Does a midi controller help with the latency/delay the tonex pedal has when switching presets? I tried turning of the bank navigation and its a bit better but still, when I hit the switch it takes a few ms to go to the other preset. Any ideas for a fix?
Try reversing the operation of the switches. Under global select Bank/nav > off. It will then switch presets when you press the switch, not when you release it.
I wonder, can the ToneX pedal SEND midi? I have a delay pedal with midi and would love to have the ability to change the preset of the delay with the tonex preset.

Nice work as always Jason, but @72, this is way above my pay grade at this point in my life. It’s all I can do to get around on my KPA and Helix.
