This is absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing. I saw Ludovico play that song live, brought me to tears lol. Anyway - Have you dabbled w the idea of using anything to Keep the water clean to fight against infection? I saw this one dude put hydrogen peroxide.
My father used to ice his feet and didn’t change the water which lead to an infection. It was just a normal cooler tho. Although w the freezer method perhaps the bacteria has a hard time growing because it’s so cold?
      Thanks man 💪🏻

    • @FlorisGierman
      @FlorisGierman  4 роки тому +1

Hi DrakE, this is a deep chest freezer, often used by hunters, fishers and those who store a lot of food. The outside dimensions are 56 inches wide (142 cm) x 27.5 inches wide (70cm) x 35 inches high (89cm). The volume is about 16 cubic feet. The brand I have is Frigidaire. The new price was $650, I paid $229 at a Home Center Tent sale. If you’re interested in buying one, Craigslist or a local marketplace is a good option, that’s how I found mine.
I added more details about this exact setup, making it water proof, replacing the water, etc. See first comment, pinned to the top. Hope that helps. Cheers

I am addicted to my morning routine, I start my morning with the WH breathing for 30min, followed by 15min meditation. I then like to do some strength yoga before jumping into my cold swimming pool. We are going into winter here in South Africa so the pool gets colder everyday. When summer returns I will need to arrange some ice for my bath but for now the pool is cold enough. It’s always the hardest part getting myself to actually jump into the pool, but once I am in, I also start to feel that feeling of calm. My entire body is awakened and I feel present and alive. I have missed one or two days of this practice and I feel terrible for the entire day. I need my morning routine to function at my best. This fits in beautifully with my mindful living.

I’d recommend drinking a glass of water before you go to sleep. It helps me to get out of bed and start my day because I don’t have a choice I have to pee! Haha also if you have windows leave the curtains open so the light fills your room. It definitely helps to set a routine for yourself. For example get up set the kettle on, bathroom business, have your cup of tea outside, stretch then cold bath or shower. You’ll get used to it after a month or so and it will no longer be a struggle! Pain is normal, in areas with an abundance of nerves. When you're over-sensitive you have to work your towards ice from decreasing temp while showering for example. To transform that threshold. Balls are very vulnerable and constantly "warm". If oyu expose them for the first time it hurts, but soon gets overshadowed by the sensations on the rest of the body, so you don't feel it that intense.
When I get into a lake in winter my balls and head hurt a lot. But it goes away with training and breathing. I don't have any infections in this areas. It stops after seconds of embracing the cold.

Can you do a tutorial on your chest freezer setup? Like how you get water in, how often you change the water, keep it clean, how often you keep it plugged in?

Sure thing! This is a deep chest freezer, often used by hunters, fishers and those who store a lot of food. You can buy a tube of waterproof silicone to seal and protect the seams. I used 1 tube of silicone along every seam, let it dry for a day, then added a “Flex Seal” white spray as an additional layer of protection.
This freezer is set up in my garage. It is filled up with water using a garden hose, until about 4 inches (10cm) below the top (so it doesn’t overflow when you get in). I plug in the electricity and after about 48 to 72 hours ice will start to form on the sides of the freezer. The temperature of the water is then close to 32 Fahrenheit (0 Celsius). From there I unplug the electricity. You can already use the ice bath with some ice on the wall. Don’t try to hammer the ice from the wall of the freezer, this will damage it. In less than 1 day the ice will come off the wall. You can either take the blocks of ice out, put it on a towel, hammer it and put it back. Or you can use a hammer and ice pick and hammer the ice blocks in the middle of the ice bath.
It’s cold, around the freezing point 32 Fahrenheit (0 Celsius). Depending on how much ice is in the bath and the outside temperature, the ice will stay melted for 4 to 6 days, then the water temperature will increase. You simply plug in the electricity again for 12 to 24 hours and new ice will form again.
I replace the water every 2 to 3 weeks, cleaning your feet before you get in helps keep it clean longer. You can either empty the bath with a bucket, or a garden hose that you suck on 1 side to get the water flowing, into my driveway. I use a towel to get last water out from the bottom.
      Hope that helps.

While watching it, I keep worrying about that lid falling down, trapping you in the ice bath while your family is sleeping. Hopefully you have an escape hatch. Also I hope its very locked/protected from curious children. Call me a worry wart, but it is from my 14+ years of working in the toy industry and finding out how accidents happen so easily and unexpectedly.
My ice baths are only after 10+ mile runs and don't include getting my upper body wet. I'm probably missing a lot of the healing and meditation benefits.

I currently do the Wim Hof breathing techniques followed by a cold shower every morning... I have my hot baths at night... I'm planning on doing an ice bath once a week, when would be the best time to do it ???
Do I replace one of my cold showers with an ice bath in the morning ????
Do I replace my hot bath at night with an ice bath ????
Do I have my hot bath followed by an ice bath or vice versa ????
