Don't really understand why there's so many comments that only Coverdale can sing this, or should sing it. I certainly haven't heard a better rendition than his. But, beautiful songs are meant to be sung, to be heard. This version is excellent. The harmonies of these two voices are perfect together.
The colossally talented Micky Moody and Neil Murray on slide guitar and bass respectively 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 (they recorded six Whitesnake albums with Lord between 1978 and 1984)
This song has been tested over the past 41 year's. Blackmore has been the King of writing so many songs that will be listened to for centuries. He was the Mozart of Rock and I know people will tell me am wrong but I challenge them to tell me what other artist has written more original guitar tracks than Mr. Blackmore. But I will tell you now their is not one. Just in Rock not counting all the beautiful acustic guitar tracks in Blackmore' Night's music. I had a dude that told me Beck does. But he researched them both and he replied back that no one else has that much original music and Ritchie never repeated anything. He is a true musical genius.
I can't tell you you are correct and I can't tell you the opposite. I know many songs worthy What I can't do is compare. Genre and and and all I can do is be honest
Blackmore is an original but Jimi is my guy...... I'm not gonna get into a pissin contest but listen to May This Be Love.... ua-cam.com/video/gpmeYPhh6Ks/v-deo.html...... And I love RB
Every time I hear a cover of any of my favorite songs, just makes me go back and listen to the original and appreciate their musicianship even more (This track, Stragazer by DT, Even Covered Scorpions)
This is clearly a more melodic, calm and slowly version, matched very nice with the orchestra So stop moaning "oh, my butt is hurt, they ruined the song" Nobody ruined nothing, they just made a cover for this specific concert for this specific tribute... it's not like everyone is going to listen or play only this version from now on
Steve Balsamo is a brilliant emotional singer. His version of Gethsemane live in Amsterdam matches both, Gillans original and Ted Neeley's movie-version.
Good thing they couldn't record the great classical composers Motzart etc. No one could ever do one of their songs without complaint. Celebrate the moment not who can do it better. Either listen or dont.
do we really have to compare between this version and the original one? i believe we don't. and who made this rendition never meant to make something to compare. it is just another interpretation of a beauty and it is really a great interpretation.
I don't understand... Much as I love him, I can't see what this song has to do with Jon Lord. This song was written by Coverdale and Blackmore, if l'm not mistaken.
Jon Lord included Soldier of Fortune in his performances, and the male singer here, Steve Balsamo sang it at some of the performances. You can find them on YT.
God-damned therapeutic anthem. Another sweet version. David Coverdale is the complementary half of the originators of this song. Ritchie Blackmore being the other partner. But l am quite certain they encourage and welcome other tries at their eternal masterpiece.
Down to the individual I guess, check out Dimmu Borgir "Forces of the Northern Night", seriously heavy stuff but you can see folks in the orchestra getting really into it and enjoying the moment! :)
If you watch the other selections from this live performance, you will at times see the orchestra members really getting into it, and the conductor actually singing along in at least one. I could only imaging the level of energy, emanating from the band members, the orchestra, and of course the audience. When Morse gets the audience to belt out some of the lyrics during Black Night, it is obvious.
I was lucky enough to be in the audience
An amazing night of talent for john lord.
the way they've sung it is just brilliant.

I agree this is a great version. There are many. I do however feel this is the ultimate live version ua-cam.com/video/CU4aaixo-2c/v-deo.html
You are totally right. People with that attitude should check out Ronnie James DIo's brilliant version of MIstreated on Rainbow's ON STAGE album.
@@burningmarl5664 Has escuchado Child in Time, por Marc Bolas & Yngwye Malsteem? O Breaking the Law, x Doro Pesch? Superan las originales!👍
@@burningmarl5664 I agree 100%. Ronnie sang that song better than Covderdale ever could.

Rip Jon, nine years ago today. Always our sweet Lord.

...a fantastic cover, if I may add!
This is actually the version Jon Lord used to play after leaving Purple
I really prefer this one.
The genius was the author (Blackmore/Coverdale. However this version has honoured them at maximun

Jon we will miss u always
fantastic !!
This perfectly fine version (but far from the original) just proves how great a singer was David Coverdale!
it is , was a Coverdale song ! ! !
is*
Awesome..!!!
Where is Coverdale? He needs to be singing this.
He had just had a knee replacement surgery and was recovering. But agree, just sad that Ritchie and DC didn't make it for their great mate.
@@AnthonyEmery1970 Blackmore not turning up is unsurprising - he's a selfish swine
Its a cover he left for a pint of ale.
The Best!!!
Very very nice -.-.-. Thank you !!!!
SUPER!!!!!
terrific

Das Meisterwerk von Lord and Coverdale!

Very niceee
Who is the lady on vocals ?
Jon Lord. The keyboards of God.
🖤
THIS SONG being sung by annnnnnyone else but Coverdale ... should be STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, I DON'T CARE how well it's done!
vocal: Steve Balsamo & Kasia Łaska i think ...

Coverdale the best
This is amazing. But Coverdale vis Eargams.
To znaczy klasyka 🥲♥️
Superbe...
I always wonder what the orchestra thinks of this stuff.
Paycheck
Down to the individual I guess, check out Dimmu Borgir "Forces of the Northern Night", seriously heavy stuff but you can see folks in the orchestra getting really into it and enjoying the moment! :)
Wrong. True musicians understand the meaning of the great material.
John Mahoney We are and they are music lover. What r u?Go listen to justin bieber

Where are Blackmore and Coverdale? Ridiculous.
Rip Bernie 😩
I prefer coverdales version :)
This is Coverdales number, no one does it better than him
who doesn't ? ^^
As nice as this rendition is, it gives one pause to consider how well D Coverdale sang it all those years ago.
Donde esta David
COVERDALE?
I loved Whitesnake, so ... where is Coverdale?! sorry...
Gänsehaut pur! Einfach großartig! Jon Lord hätte das ganz sicher gefallen.
