- Getting close to a moving car again now. In this video we rebuild the clutch slave cylinder and install upgraded gear linkage bushes.
This is the kit we used for the shift linkage bushes - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220806422473 - Авто та транспорт
Thanks for the good video and run through.
Love sitting down in the evening with a drink and finding a new vid from you. It feels almost like actually keeping in touch...
It has been a while, hope all is well with you and the family 😊
Awesome job. Love the trick with the bolt to get the bushes out! 👍
Thanks!
It's always useful to lube when your shaft doesn't fit properly and you have to push XD
Thank you for showing how that square bushing gets installed! Ive tried finding a video for this for so long! And all the forum’s didn’t really explain how to very well.
You’re welcome, glad we could help 😊
They sell a round one at TWOS R US I got to be a replacement. I see one now available but Im not sure if its for the mark 1 though.
this tutorial was wery good! Now I know what is going on with my gears. Thank You !
Thank you, hope yours goes well
Dude.. that bolt and socket trick is so helpful to me, gonna do this to my AE111 later this week, Thanks brother!
No problem, it’s a great little trick 😊
Great update! Nice work on the clutch!
Thanks! Just hope it still works 😅
whoa I've never seen that wrench-socket puller technique before! thanks!!
It’s a super useful little trick, served us well many times
You're right, that indeed seemed shifty (before you fixed it).
Woohooo! Mat t did some stuff!
PSA: M56 gearboxes on Volvos (P80s, P1s and P2s) and some Ford Focus' use the exact same bushings.
That’s really cool to know, thanks!
Thanks for another video!!! I did this last year, havent had the car out since but moving through the gears in the garage 1st gear doesnt feel right. Really tight to select. This has reminded me to go back and check them again.
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, hope you get yours sorted 😊
Nice work. Ugh, I hope you don't get tired of all my stories, but this reminded me of my MR2's first failure (the second one was the alternator). The car was fairly new, but must have been out of warranty. Driving down the street, go to shift and "snap." One of those cables you put bushings on in your video broke. I remember doing the work from under the car, and I remember it was a pain. Only one broke but I changed both just in case. The replacements have been there for at least 25 years, so I guess I got a bad one from the factory.
Wow that’s unlucky, glad the replacements have lasted and it’s not a common failure, I can imagine they’re a real pain to replace. We need to replace our throttle cable at some point, not looking forward to that job.
Fiddley job as always on an mr2 great video update have a good one
Thanks 😊 don’t think there are many jobs that aren’t fiddly on an MR2 😂
I need to hire you to help with my 1991 MR2 2.2. Parts are so hard to find though!
For the handful of times I had to change the shift bushings, I wish I had known the socket method. Will be using it from now on.
Yer gonna want to get a proper torque wrench on them transmission mounts. Especially the one under the clutch slave. Under/over torque and you will be using thread repair at a minimum or searching for a new transmission at worst.
Yeah, annoyingly it’s not possible to get a torque wrench on with the car on jack stands, hopefully when the car is running we’ll be able to take it to a lift and torque all the bolts 👍
Marvelous work! You just earned a subscriber :) Question would this fix the issue of not shifting into gears? My MR2 is having difficulties it is stuck in 2nd gear and it won't budge, why? Does it relate to the video or if not can you please explain to me
Thank you 😄 I’m not sure if it would help your issue, it’s probably worth a try though. Are you able to move the shift levers on the gearbox manually? That would at least rule out an issue with the shifter
Do you have the part number for that square bronze bushing that was missing on your transmission?
It's 90389-10009, if you're in the UK MR2 Ben has them - mr2-ben.co.uk/products/1521 - or if you don't mind waiting for shipping from Japan Amayma is cheaper - www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/9038910009 - I think they also deliver internationally
