In today's video we take a tour of the Toy and Train Fair which was held on Sunday 9th June 2024 at Bath and West showground, near Shepton Mallet in the UK.
Delighted to have my friend Andy join me again as we discuss the fair, the new venue and what we ended up buying.
There were loads of toy dealers with something for everyone!

I'm not a toy collector but I thoroughly enjoy these toy show vids. It was interesting seeing all those old Playmobil sets because they reminded me of my best ever Christmas c.1981-ish. Me and my brother got a 6ft snooker table (all set up ready to play), and I got a space lego moon landing station set and also a Playmobil car and recovery truck set. Just brilliant ! If I was a collector, I'd have bought as many of those Playmobil sets that I could afford because I have a feeling they'll be much more collectible in the future.
It's a bit of a funny one as Playmobil seems to have been dwarfed by Lego. Classic Space Lego is hot though and I hardly ever see it at shows.
Well, as a collector of other stuff (art, books, records) I know you've got to go off your instincts and my instincts tell me Playmobil just can't fail. It's extremely well made, it's varied enough to appeal to all tastes and I would say it's visually more fun than Lego. Even a single figure looks good sat on a shelf. Still, I've been wrong before...

Good town, I'm from there - remember going to a Dave Lee Roth concert in the Showerings Pavilion c.1991 which was probably the last time I visited!
Lol, not sure it's changed much, the showground is out in the sticks!

The Roger Gilham book is very good. I think it is actually up to the 8th edition as of about 8 years ago.
It includes a brief history of the Scalextric brand owners and has some information on competitors and licensed versions.
excellent, it was just what I needed to get a general overview of the line. Always loved it as a kid but dare not start collecting it now. This is the next best thing!

I was there also around 9.30 with my wife and puppy Jules but didn’t see you, which is a shame. I was a bit disappointed with the stuff on offer this time, being a Star Wars collector. Thanks for the video mate.
Thanks Keith, I think I must have been in stealth mode as I missed loads of people. You're right, there wasn't stacks of vintage Star Wars this time tbh but you just never know what might turn up....

Oh Doctor Who boxed sets!!! Definitely would have picked those up!!! I have alot of these from 2012 that I unboxed to enjoy and display so would have been nice to have boxed ones...on USA ebay, the uk stuff is going up in value now 😢

My biggest joy is I have a Jon Pertwee doctor and a Jo Grant one w the boots....and 3 different variants of Perri
Those vintage playmobil items looked like they would only go up in value ?
I'm not sure if they're a good investment or not, certainly an excellent collection though.
