You need to come to the smaller theaters; crowds are smaller here and it's peaceful and quiet here away from all the mania and all the city craziness from New York. You and your family will be welcomed with open arms in my neck of the woods if you want to escape for a while and need a change of scenery. You have seen Philadelphia, but you have never visited the small towns and some of the countryside of my home state of Pennsylvania! I'm far away from Philly, so you and your family would be safe. I'd be happy to show you all around my area sometime if you decide to come down. You would love Longwood Gardens and Lancaster, PA which is an hour and 45 minutes away!
I watched this with fascination; so genuinely moving! But I actually wonder about the ethics of signing more gloves and asking the losing bidders if they'll purchase at their lower bids. It takes away from the uniqueness (and value) of the winning bidder's prize, and puts the auction near-winners on the spot in front of the crowd to honor a bid on different (supposedly unique) merchandise they had bid on. It *is* all for charity, and this could be quibbling on my part. But those with $20,000 to bid are probably involved in finance and I'm sure at least some of them are aware that an auction means if you don't win, you're not on the hook; and it also means unique merchandise has to be unique merchandise if it's a fair auction. I wonder how those folks felt about it. If I bid 18,000 for a pair of gloves, I'd (coming to my senses!) feel relieved to be outbid; then suddenly Hugh Jackman asking me to pay $18,000 for another pair... I'd be like "great show, but this be a little Harold Hill shtick going on, post-curtain call!"
One more point just noticed; at the beginning of the auction Hugh Jackmsn clearly said they’d be signing ONE glove each, before the bidding started. He also said this was a unique chance available no other night. In other words, he “jacked up” (pun semi-intended) the bids by clearly emphasizing the uniqueness of the ONE pair of gloves up for auction. Would the first bidder have offered $20,000 for one of TWO pairs of gloves? Almost impossible. Unless it was genuinely done pretty purely for charity. But there is not doubt HJ emphasized it’s one unique pair of gloves. It’s very much a bait and switch, probably fraud, if one wants to get technical and be a stickler. But all that said, it seems to have been for a good cause and taken as such by all concerned, who should be congratulated for their generosity.

I went yesterday and it stopped at 20k for us as well. We had 3 people put up 20k it was crazy.
