    When you're doing the testing you should also do a control or side by side test.
    For example...the knife sharpener you should have dropped a tomato on it before you sharpened it, the thawing plate you should have put another steak on a regular plate beside it, the scissors you should have used regular scissors too

      I have the thawing plate and it works perfectly. I also have the herb scissors and they are easy to clean. You normally do not cut the stems (who wants stems in their food?)

      @@sweetpea1989I have herb scissors. They are BARELY worth it. Herbs do get stuck but it’s easy to remove them. I use my silicone spoon to just slide them off. But because i have to dirty another utensil, it’s barely worth it

    The plate that is supposed to thaw meat out faster needs to be compared to a plate at the same time. Best way to determine it’s worth.

    The potato peeling gloves do work fast if you use them right. You soak the potatoes in warm water for about 5 to 10 minutes. Not cold or room temperature water. Then you use the gloves on them while holding the potatoes under running warm water. This rinses off the peel as it comes off the potatoes. Preventing the gloves from getting the peels stuck in between the little spikes. The running warm water also keeps the peels soft.

    For the meat defroster thing... that _does_ work, but you can do it much better with two baking trays and a couple of pots.
    Put the meat between the trays. Stack the pots on top. Done. It'll defrost a 2" steak in about 20 minutes flat, or chicken breasts in 10.
    The secret is that the thermal conductivity of the metal effectively increases the surface area of the meat.

    The "slap-chop" has been around for donkey's years. Made by Zyliss, and called an "Autochop", and much more effective. I've got both the sizes they made and they work perfectly despite being 50+ years old. Meat defrosts more quickly if you put it on a simple metal baking sheet. The egg poacher is actually an egg coddler. Poached eggs are cooked in the water, coddled eggs are cooked in a container which is then placed in the water.

      aluminum is super thermally conductive for example when you go outside and its cold and touch some wood it will feel cold but not as much as if you were to touch a metal pole since the metal pole pulls heat from your hands faster than some wood

    The herb scissors is great, mine came with a small comb thing to get the stuck herbs out. If you cut the herbs in a bowl you can get the very fine choped and most of the herb that get stuck between the blades comes out when you continue choping and the rest you just easy rinse off with running water.

  • @garrettgobrien

    The thermal conductivity of metal is significantly higher than that of a plate. Aluminum has a very high conductivity (that's why a lot of cookware is aluminum). If you want to thaw your meat fast, put it in a heavy aluminum or copper pan with another one on top. The pans will conduct heat to the frozen meat much faster than leaving it out.
    As others have said, you need a control for it. The bottom of the steak was thawed quite a bit, so I would say it was working fine, but without a control, there's no way to know with this short test.

    • @dunhillsupramk3
      @dunhillsupramk3 Рік тому

      what actually works is the defrost function on your microwave the defroster plate is a scam, no one that i know that had one or bought one said it worked as advertise... here is the thing aluminum is good at heat transfer so if you live in a cold climate its going to be useless in a warm climate it will actually work BUT just leaving it on the counter will also work the same...

    • @garrettgobrien
      @garrettgobrien Рік тому

      @@dunhillsupramk3 You are correct, the defrost function works, but can also cook your food. The thaw plates aren't really a scam, they do actually work, it's just that a pot or pan would do the same thing. If you have the thaw plate on the counter and a regular plate next to it and put something frozen on each (e.g. and ice cube), the thaw plate will thaw it faster, as long as it's warmer than the frozen item (i.e. above freezing).
      Try it yourself. Get a heavy bottom pot (copper or aluminum is better) and put it on your counter. Put a normal plate next to it. Put an ice cube in each and see which melts faster. The ambient temperature doesn't matter as long as it's above freezing.

    • @saintsone7877
      @saintsone7877 11 місяців тому

      @@dunhillsupramk3 You are partly correct but not fully. The plates will thaw quicker than simply placing on a normal plate. But you need to warm the tray up first in hot water. Even warming a normal plate first will not thaw it as quickly as the aluminium sheet due to the different conductivity levels of metal sheet to plate. If you did a side by side in either type of weather the aluminium tray will thaw the meat quicker than just leaving on the counter on a normal plate whether the tray was heated first or not. It will thaw MUCH quicker if the aluminium plate was heated up first although only a timed test will confirm whether it was 10X faster as claimed by the manufacturer.

    Suggest to do an AB control test on the defrosting plate. Get 2 pieces of steak with a very similar (if not the same) weight, cut, and shape and defrost together in the same room. Because different room temperatures, humidities, sizes can alter results but having no control test it isn’t persuading as it has no comparison.

    The defroster plate definitely works wonders!! When I moved out of my parents house I actually asked them if they could tell me where to get one and what it was called because we used it for dinner all the time. I remember that thing always clean and ready to go on the countertop throughout my entire childhood!! Although ours was much smaller- like big enough to unthaw one pound of burger 🤣🤣 10/10 recommend that thing!!!!

      @@mmmmmmmmmmm10 Because science. Aluminum conducts heat. It may not thaw 10X faster but it definitely exhibits increased thawing properties. In the video he just throws up his hands after a couple minutes. If you really wanted to test this he would have used a control and actually measured the temp of both of them at varying times. Furthermore, you absolutely Do NOT use warm water unless you want to grow bacteria on your food. If you wanted to use water you should use cool running water.

    That knife sharpener looks awesome, no more grinding for an hour. My damascus nakiri is going to get sharp in just seconds! 🤣

    • @saintsone7877
      @saintsone7877 11 місяців тому

      If you ever have to grind for an hour to sharpen a knife you are using the wrong things or wrong techniques. Any knife should be able to be resharpened within 30 seconds whether you use a sharpener of use a sharpening pad. However a sharpening pad will prolong the life of your knifes edge whilst that sharpener will over time destroy the knife as it is removing far too much material on one or two strokes as Patrick clearly saw the shavings so you are not really sharpening the knife but creating a new cutting edge by removing part of the knife.
      Personally, I would never place a Damascus knife on such a basic sharpener. You will be resharpening daily or at best every second day. A good sharpening should last for weeks unless you are cutting frozen stuff or going through bones.
