Great reaction to a funny video! As someone who played the original Fallout and Fallout 2 around the turn of the millennium, I can confirm it is not a game that holds your hand. It doesn't auto-save, so you as the player are entirely responsible for saving often and saving in multiple slots to ensure some decision made doesn't screw your playthrough hard. On top of that, it is very much a game where reading the manual was important. It doesn't have an in-game tutorial: that rat he fought in the beginning is literally seconds into the part of the game where the player has control. Until the player understands how the turn-based combat works and how to use it to their advantage, even low-level foes like that can be punishing; and more so because the player character generally has pretty terrible skills at the start. Late game, when you have ranked up a bunch of skills and get the coveted 95% hit chances for your favored weapons, there is nothing sweeter than becoming death incarnate for all who oppose you. However, he was right in the rope thing - one of the great classic memes of Fallout and Fallout 2 was that you should generally have 2-3 coils of rope handy to traverse certain areas. Otherwise you'll wind up like DJ Peachcobbler and have to go back to a town and get some, burning through precious time.
11:04 Just for anyone who doesn't know, Fallout 1 and 2 are turn based games. The player takes their turn, then all the NPCs get their turns, then the player gets to go again and it repeats so you actually can't do anything while the doctor/butcher dude is walking up to you to murder you.
I think the concept of a time limit is very good and I like it in game cuz it rushes you to do things in a certain way into replay the game trying different things so that you can get different abilities and dings and I just think it's really cool gimmick
I totally get that, but I just personally hate timers since I just end up rushing to the finish. I enjoy taking my time with games and exploring all the nooks and crannies.
@@deathakav2285 That ends up lowering the amount of days in the second half, when the super mutants are searching for V13. It's a trade off get extra days now but get less days later.
IIRC the time limit in FO1 was a choice that they ended up regretting. Hence FO2 lacks any timer. And the 150-day timer is fine, you can finish most of the game in that time. But the issue is the necropolis timer (which you can also save easily if you know what you're doing), which forces you to finish one of the main quests fast enough for you to be able to save them. I don't hate it that much, it adds a sense of urgency but it's a meh choice.
If I remember correctly there really was no water chip down in that vault. For todays standards, this game is the worst game ever made.. but back when it came out, it was like one of the best RPG's out there. I loved it. My character was a prostitute by the way. I was 12, did not know what lot's of things actually mean and yeah.. let's just say I found out that female characters have it easier to get passt speech-checks, if they follow some dude in his room. The game actually made some notes, regarding the players behaviour. One of the notes I got was "You sleep with everything that has two legs, and sometimes your partners do not even check out that criteria". I loaded the save game like years later and was like "Oh, wow. Apparently I was a mass murdering, post apocalyptic, prostitute when I was 12. Great!" :D
"is the water chip down there? who knows?" the section of that area literally 12 steps away that says "you see the command room caved in, you will have to find the water chip elsewhere":
My problem with the way kit handles things is that she asks him why he couldn't fight the human meat guy, and instead of saying, "oh, the combat is turn based. He used his turn to kill the first guy, so the second guy had all the time in the world to wollop him" he makes some vague comment about how "there are ways (??) to handle multiple opponents but he's not there yet(???)" which is an answer that literally could only serve to make her more confused.
To be fair, explaining how a game work to someone who don't play them is similar to how a Vanilla Gamers ask a Pro-Bloodborn Player the entire lore of Bloodborn. You know what you're talking about, but you don't really know HOW to talk about it.

goddamn, peach is atrociously bad at Fallout 1. he uses a weapon his character's not skilled with, and is surprised he misses (what did he honestly expect?) 2. he ran out of ammo for his gun, the weapon the character is probably skilled with, I don't know he never showed his character sheet 3. he didn't use VATS a single time, and whinges about ammo being scarce when he could have just shot eyes/heads instead of shooting the armor 4. didn't even bother looking around Shady Sands for rope, being that there are two sets of rope easily accessible there 5. doesn't save often and complains when he has to redo a section (why didn't he save before he did something dangerous?)
@@cleverman383 Its a great game that doesn't hold your hand. Not as good as fallout 2 in a bunch of aspects, but it has the best villain in the series in my opinion. The character creation starting traits are a bit janky, as gifted is really OP.
If you play Megami tensei you're used to low-level demon just beating your ass constantly because they happened to get a few critical hitch on you and then the Charmed one of your party members showed start attacking you and then they got some bumps on and then it turns out they nullify one of the attacks that you use so now they get an extra turn
