Hi Dave, nice to see the review on the Draper Mini Lathe. I have the same one and I am very happy with the lathe. My only minor complaint is that the part you commented on having been upgraded from plastic is difficult to use if you are trying to drill with the lathe (for pen blanks). I added a push fit HDPE handle (home made) to assist in the turning. It does make advancing the blank a little easier. A very minor complaint ! The lathe is extremely good value for money as you say. John
Nice mini lathe Dave and great review. There are times I have use for a mini lathe but it really needs to be mini for what I want to do. I would have to fit under the head of my milling machine. Looks like your new lathe works great. Hope you get lots of time on it. Gary
Dave decent review I have also been toying with the idea of a Mini Lathe and I also have the same larger lathe as yourself do the tool rests in the Mini fit the banjo in the bigger lathe
Nice video and little lathe, Just a little tip, if its electronic variable speed, if you ever get any problems with the speed control, more than likely the control box is full of dust, on my lathe i have made a filter around it to allow it to keep cool, but not let the dust in!
Great video... im about to start turning and this looks great as a first lathe.. has it got the choice to extend the bed ??? Looking forward to more of your videos....👍👌
hi mate not a bad little lathe for the price only any good for turning little projects if your thinking of doing pens it would be ideal i sold mine and upgraded my lathe was happy with it but did lose a little power when turning i hope this helps
Thanks for the review Dave. Looks perfect for what I want to do (pens and maybe the odd bowl/ goblets). One question, has your opinion on it changed any - since you've had it for a few of months now?
Hi again Dave, I was wondering about how you find the power on this lathe. Draper have another version that has a 500w motor instead of 250w but i was wondering would you say that this has enough power to make anything that might fit into it? or do you find that sometimes theres not quite enough power?
hi david yes mate it looses power on certain size turnings but i found it okay for pen turning and little trinket boxes the other version you speak about sounds a bit better on bigger things i found it loosing power
Hi mate does the lathe fit a uk plug socket was thinking about getting the axminster ac240wl but its a 8 week waiting time which do you think is best thanks
