Mayer being the fan of music he is probably drew alot of inspiration from a million different places you have never heard of before Breakbot even crossed his mind. The man knows his vintage music.

I disagree about the similarities to d train's "keep on". The production quality is similar, has a similar feel, but this beat is organic, all made in the studio, and I don't even think any of the rhythms were borrowed. Mayer Hawthorne is obviously heavily influenced by classic rnb and funk, like the back up singing in "her favorite song", it's totally borrowed from earth wind and fire. He borrows, but there are no new notes:) This guy is good, and I love hearing the old influences come out in his music with such a high production quality and fresh creativity.
