    I know I'm like 4 years too late lol, but I enrolled in mat certification and hope to eventually get my reformer. But due to the money, working full time and being a mom I wanted to wait before diving into the full certification for at least a year or so. Especially due to how intense the hours are increased plus how it is very costly. Also gives me a chance to get in as a sub for mat classes and gain more experience. So to hear you say if you could do it again you would wait before entering into comprehensive makes me feel so much better about the decision to wait a bit. Thank you for the video very honest and informative .

    Alex, I totally agree with your values and your concepts! I use a similar structure when I coach my students to become certified Pilates teachers and run their own businesses. The formula I teach creates transformations over and over again. My clients come to be because they have had enough of overwhelm, not happy working for someone else, not managing to get by and living paycheck to paycheck. I offer them the possibility to gain a new skill in helping others, which not only gives them personal satisfaction but offers them a very healthy and profitable lifestyle. I'm loving what I do and I thank all my teachers for the skills I can pass on to these people! Sending you love and light!!!

    • @alpsmovement
      @alpsmovement  5 років тому +4

      Pilates has always been my thing! I enjoy yoga but I find the two methods to be quite different. I'm a bit more analytical, which Pilates tends to be as well. I recommend immersing yourself in both methods and then deciding which you prefer if you're considering teacher training. Hope this helps!

    Very helpful. I did one year at the PMA registered school to learn that what was advertised did not match what was given. Prices, in reality, were tripled and the programme intentionally stretched. 4 yrs programme! I dropped out having spent loads of money. It is so disappointing. I just wanted to learn Pilates but now so many schools are being " creative" to keep you there forever to pay their bills. Now I am thinking where to go next. I have a matwork qualification but would have loved to learn classical apparatus....

    Wow, I have just found you randomly. So sad but so true. I did a full comprehensive program and I am so disappointed about it. I have spent £5000 and I still did not get any certificate because I don’t feel confident enough to give the 3 exams. I almost feel like I have just wasted money and time also I feel kind of robbed to some instances. Anyway I don’t know even if I will ever be able to teach.

      Anyone can teach - you can teach to clients who have the same issues as you do- you sound empathetic- should be able to assess and tailor exercises to help clients feel they can do the exercises

    Hi, thank you so much for your informational video ! I am considering in training to be a Pilates instructor while also studying in college. Do you know anyone who’s done both? I haven’t found any online videos so I am wondering if it’s possible. My ultimate plan is to become a PT and I was thinking of Pilates to be a side job (on the weekends) while I study pt school and then hopefully I can marry them both once I graduate pt school.
    Do you know of anyone with a similar path?

    You talked about how studios don't care what certifications a candidate has. This is very interesting. Do you mean that getting hired depends on the looks of the applicant?. Do you know which training program is the cheapest?

    • @alpsmovement
      @alpsmovement  4 роки тому +8

      Hi- I didn't mean to imply that being hired is dependent on a candidate's looks. It depends I think on the relationship of the studio with the person- I've seen that if they know you or if you get along well with someone who works for the studio, you are more likely to get hired, even if you have a lower certification. I don't think this is appropriate or acceptable as it devalues understanding Pilates and the body. I hope this helps.

      If I didn't love teaching, I wouldn't still be in this field. The reality is that it's also incredibly challenging to find your way as a Pilates teacher. I know so many people, myself included, who thought it would be easier to get started in the Pilates industry and have gone though a lot of financial and emotional stress when they realize that isn't the case- how the job is marketed by teacher training programs isn't the realiity. My aim is to shed some light on what it's really like so people are less surprised post teacher training.
