Why don't you let people read a book? Tolkien is 1 of the greatest fiction wrighters of all time. If anything you should highlight him.

@Nebol if you care so much why say something
Gollum is the definition of peak performance. Bro is over a century but even without that life changing Ring juice he never ages. Why? King stays healthy. Our man Smeagol works out. He takes long walks, swims and climbs everyday, he can spend years on the move with only minor breaks. There's no terrain or weather this beast of a man can't handle, he strides proudly through any climate. His gorilla style walk also means that his arms get to work as well during these exercises.
What's more he eats all natural. Homie makes sure that no artifical chemicals are ever added to his food. This culinary man can even taste when the food isn't natural and spits it out right away. He has a healthy diet of fish, birds, meats and insects, all which he hunts himself. You'd think greens would be neccissary to stay in good health but our man Smeagol proves that just like an all green diet an all meat one has its benefits. The only artifical element in this mans diet is his Ring juice but as he has proven he does not need it to stay healthy anymore.
Gollum is the peak of health, a true inspiration for any man. And you bet that the doctors hate him, because he proves that with nothing but an all natural diet, active life style and a few years on ring juice, you can become a strong long lived, practically immortal, greek god of man.

Wait, so 17 years had passed between Bilbo leaving the Shire, to the formation of the Fellowship?!?
Yes
Yep - @kumaferumin is right. G took his sweet sweet time. \(〇_o)/ I mean, kinda dropped the ball on this one, right?
@@thegreyhavens167 Well that explains also the whole thing with the Orcs finding Gollum and torturing him to give up the position of the ring.
Makes kinda more sense to me, with seeing how Orcs are described in the books.
And also, Gandalf couldnt read an entire archive worth of documents in just mere days :D
@@thegreyhavens167even in the movies?
@@kumaferumin makes perfect sense, because watching the movie when Gandalf goes to the archives in Gondor, I knew that a decent amount of time had to have passed for that journey back and forth. But they make it seem like it was only a day or two after Bilbos party that he returns to tell Frodo to leave the Shire.
That’s really cool! This is why I say the books are better… there’s so much information that solves some questions people have about the movies.
Well said. I dont know if I personally would say books are "better" than movies... but more like different. But yeah, if you want to think things through the movies certainly aren't great for that!
Are there things you think were specifically better in the books than the movies? Or maybe the other way around?
It almost comes off as plot holes in the movies
@@thegreyhavens167 vorites are Gandalf, Sam, Aragorn, etc. Just to make a few. However, I don’t believe they are the masterpieces everyone says they add (though I will agree they are spectacular). Some characters have been changed for the worse in my opinion. Gimli was sorta reduced to comic relief. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s annoying. Faramir’s character was completely changed, screwing it up. I’m referring to the scene where in the book he lets Frodo and Sam go at Ithilien, but in the movie takes them back to Osgiliath. This goes against his character in the book. Also, Denethor was kinda portrayed as beyond stupid, when there were more factors in the book that led to his madness. Yes, Boromir’s death was explained in the movie, but the hidden palantir is not shown, which would’ve been a cool twist before his death. And that’s the thing. Peter Jackson left soooo much stuff out. I’ll pick on Fellowship, here. Because this is where I think it is most evident. Most of the first half of the book is either missing or changed. The time it takes for Gandalf and Frodo to talk about the ring, Farmer Maggot, Crickhollow, The Black Forest and the Old Willow, Tom Bombadil, the Barrow Downs, and Glorfindel, just to name a few. I understand not having every single detail on the screen, which is ok, but these are entire chapters! I 100% understand why Jackson left this stiff out, though. In order to keep the flow of the movie, stuff had to be cut. Whatever. Here’s my question. Shelob’s fight scene was moved to ROTK, because Frodo and Sam needed more to do in that movie. Doing that took out a portion of TTT that was pretty cool! So Jackson made stuff up to compensate. The Warg fight and Fararmir’s choices come to mind. Here’s the thing: if they were willing to move the end of TTT, maybe they could’ve moved the ending of TFOTR to TTT. Doing this would make two things possible. One, it would eliminate the pointless action scenes that had no point to exist. Two, it might allow for some of the cut scenes in FOTR to see the light of day. The only issue I see is this messing with the flow of the movie, But I think Jackson could’ve made it work. It would’ve been so cool to see some of the mentioned cut scenes in the movie. (Even if it was just extended, I still would’ve liked it!) Again, no hate towards Jackson here. He did a phenomenal job with what he was given, which was a pretty big task. Just some things annoy me. Like for example (last ruing I think 😆), Arwen having a bigger role in the movie when she was only mentioned in the book? Like I get they couldn’t have Glorfindel save Frodo just to throw him away, but Arwen? This is where I think the old LOTR did good. They had Legolas save Frodo, which made a degree of sense. Having Arwen’s fate tied to the ring also makes no sense and I won’t even try to explain why. Arwen did not need to be on every single poster, when she had little to do, even with her buff in the movies. The only reason she is on the posters is because they needed a female on there. It’s very Anjou ikr to see a minor character on otherwise epic posters. So that’s my mini-rant. 😆 Sorry you have to read so much, but this is what I think of the movies vs. books. The books will always come first to me, because I love all the detail, but there’s a lot the movies get right, and are still fantastic to come back to. 😁
@@thegreyhavens167 Sorry!! My comment was too long that it stared cutting off at the top. What I said was that I loved the action scenes in lotr, the books could simply not compare to the epicness and emotion of the movies. Helms deep, Pelenor fields, and the Blake Gate battles come to mind. Also the acting was great. Some of my favorites were… (This is where the top and long comment starts!) ⬆️
They do answer the questions and where TF is Tom Bombadil in the films? I know he's OP and whimsical but considering how musical the shitty hobbit films are he could have been included. I would love to have seen the scene where Tom puts on the ring and doesn't disappear, he treats it like a fun trinket.
One could say Bilbo falling asleep during the council in Rivendell is the age starting to catch up. I always took it as Gollum still eing connected to the ring after all this time.
That's a good point actually. Thanks! I always viewed the Stopping Time power of the rings in Rivendell and Lorien just making humans feel sleepy / ethereal / confused on time / etc. But it could be age? That's a good thought!
Also, BB is a pretty saucy dude by this time, so I also feel it might be his way of just letting everyone know what he thinks about all the blathering dialog! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@thegreyhavens167 It might be because I read the books after I saw the movies but I completely agree to Biblo's saucyness plays a rolls either way.
Bilbo also has an easier break from the ring, (relatively) as he gave it up instead of having it taken from him.
@@davidlewis5312 And had it for a much shorter time than Gollum did, which probably made giving it up easier too
But Gollum DID age. That’s not his youthful face or body! He’s literally stretched thin as Bilbo put it, aging but never dying. Remember he used to be a fat happy albeit rather covetous hobbit.
He means after he loses the ring

He chose... poorly... 🤣🤣
He experienced accelerated oxidization
Smeagol Gets Burned in Lava before he gets very very old that old that you will not see him that way..

I think Gollum stated that with Ring's destruction he would instantly crumble into dust. He stayed around way past his natural expiration date, while Bilbo also started to quickly catch up to his natural age after Ring was gone.
I wanna say because Bilbo wasn’t still being influenced by the power of the ring since he willingly gave it up, whereas Gollum was obsessed with the ring and therefore his spirit was driven to find the ring at any cost
That was my assumption, the ring was still 'attached' to Smeagol through Gollum but Bilbo though still haunted by being a Ringbearer was free of the Ring because he willingly gave it up.
Yep, this is the case. The ring still had grip over Gollum whereas, while still tempting to Bilbo, he gave it up.
That kind of act heals a marred soul which is what the ring does to people. Never fully healed Bilbo, but it removed the majority of the ring's stain.
@@AppHangout I don’t know if it’s ever been elaborated before, but it feels like the ring is a (I forgot what the word is) but it represents drugs. “Some level of Sauron’s spirit has attached itself to Bilbo”
Context: I may be forgetting a key obvious phrase form the novel.
Is this really his spirit or just his power? If it is his spirit, why would destroying the ring remove Sauron’s spirit from Bilbo? Both the aging effects and the Elven rings of power terminated at the Ruling ring’s destruction. The elven rings did not have Sauron’s spirit right? I might also just be confusing myself.

Nice. I know this is going to sound weird coming from a guy who runs a Tolkien site, but TES has my favorite lore of any franchise. The disappearing of the Dwemer, the Dragon Break, achieving Chim, the Dreamer, the Thalmor's plan to make Men non-existent.... it just goes on and on.
What are some channels or sites you visit with good info on this? The first one that comes to mind for me is called Fudgemuppet.
I thought I was crazy when I heard that.
Gollum aged super-slow while he had the ring, he was several hundred years old.
Gollum is just built different
There's something to consider. In the books, Bilbo may have aged a tiny bit without the Ring but with it still existing. Once it was destroyed, however, he started to age a lot and showed signs of senility (forgetting that he gave the Ring to Frodo, etc). Gollum, on the other hand, outright knew he'd die the second the Ring was destroyed (or pretty quickly thereafter) and he even says so outright "We turns to dust." or something like that when confronting Frodo and Sam on Mt. Doom.
Another thing to consider, maybe is how old Bilbo vs. Smeagol/Gollum were when they first got the Ring. Bilbo was almost 51 (his 51st birthday was the day he escaped the Elven palace out the trapdoor.) Smeagol must have just turned 32 or something and become an official adult Hobbit for all we know. Since Hobbits were known to live to about 100 or more, generally, if that's the case, Smeagol may have aged to about 100 or so by the time he died. It was stated that Bilbo still appeared about 51 at his 112th birthday, or, pretty much "unchanged". Other than the drastic change in appearance caused by the Ring to Smeagol, he may have also, otherwise appeared about in his 30's till the day he lost the Ring.

Or maybe that Terminator "Gollumed"
Oohhh..... I guess Gollum did his thing first, huh. Well played, friend, well played!
I figure it's because the ring is like a cigarette so the longer you're on it the longer the effects last.
I always thought the reason why the ring influenced people is because the ring itself is an Oath that binds people who speak on it - and because, according to the Ainur, music itself is speech/song, simply wearing it binds you to Sauron. The life force isn't the only thing you're given, but your mind is fused with Sauron's in a way, which is why you desire the ring, because all Sauron desires is to inherit the ring again. It's a solitary desire that would be the only added personality trait, due to it being the sole focus of Sauron's mind.
It's also seen that characters often seal their fate by speaking on the ring, which is something that is spoken of in the books, but not in the movies
Gollum would die the moment the ring was destroyed. If I recall correctly he states that in the book. His life force is bound to it.
In the books and the films the third eagle was for Gollum. The Valar might have been able to refashion him a new untainted body too. He could heal with Lòrien/Estë and Nienna. ❤
Pelinal by all in all is an intersting choice of song but I like it quite a bit and was happy to hear it
Wow, I can't believe how many other people know this song.... super impressive good sir!
(i mean, that is a banger of a tune!)
I mean, Gollum isn't exactly the poster child for health, though, is he.
My head cannon is that Gollum spent much more time than Bilbo with the ring and during that time his body and biology adapted to live underground hunting, crawling, climbing, eating raw animals and living in the dark thus becoming a new creature itself while bilbo kept living lika a normal hobbit. And so Gollum aged but in a different way
“ he does not grow or obtain more life, he merely continues “
I love Bilbo!! I respect gollum for his loyalty and his smarts and survival skills.
Actually in the book it had been decades since Bilbo had left the Shire before Frodo saw him again in Rivendell. Bilbo had reached 111 (eleventy-one) when he left and was approximately 140 when they remet.
Wasn't it that Bilbo always took naps, and fell asleep in the book at Rivendell?
True - physically he was the same, but mentally he was more sleepy and a bit of a grumpy boomer. Gandalf suggests it's because in Elrond's house he is being healed a bit from the Ring infection (Elrond was the greatest healer in the world at the time). What do you think? How do you read it?
My theory is that Gollum had it so long, the Ring basically turned him into jerky.
How ironic, the little man Sauron corrupted became his downfall.
I always threw it up to not being able to tell with gollum i mean what would even change
Gollum looks like a guy who has hidden in a cave for 500 years

I would suggest that Smeagol's failing appearance has less to do with "aging" and more to do with his lifestyle choices. He lives in total darkness, which made him pale and his eye grew large. He lives in a wet slimy environment and spends way too much time swimming. And he is nutritionally starved from only eating fish (and occasional Goblin).

Yup. That scene where Gandalf goes off and studied after giving Bilbao the ring and telling him to keep it secret, keep it safe, that scene lasted 17 years in the books.
And the scene at the end where they leave on the boat took places ages after the end of the movie as well.
I think it's because Gollum had the ring longer so the effects had a greater effect on him, while Bilbo had it for 60 years at the start of LOTR so while he did age slowly eventually the effects would've worn off quicker

I always just figured that Gollum had the ring for so bloody long that he was twisted into something inhuman with long life, no longer just a simple Hobbit, whereas Bilbo while he aged slower, was still just a Hobbit when he lost it, because he didn't have it for centuries.
Pelinal Whitestrake always gets a like
There are people alive today, that have not watched Terminator 2.
Well said. When I was making the video I actually thought something similar... what percentage of younger people haven't seen Terminator 2???
So I showed it to two people I know age 19 and 22. They both immediately recognized the fist going into the lava as T2. Well, there is my super scientific poll results 🤣🤣
It's a movie only problem, but in my head canon, Bilbo actually mentally let go of the ring; he chose to let it go and that freed him from its spell... for the most part. Gollum in the other hand is still very much beholden to the ring and enslaved by it.
Anyway, if you love the movies, I can recommend the books. I managed to finally read it last year and am working my way through Unfinished Tales. Have read The Silmarillion. It's awesome. Now is really a great time to get into these books since Harper Collins is putting out all these really cool editions.
I assumed it was because Gollum had the ring centuries before Billbo had it, and he for only a few decades.
