- Blow Me Down taken from the movie Popeye made in 1980 starring: Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. I have all the songs from the movie on my videos, so just look and please subscribe or comment to me.
Lyrics:
In the mornin' air
There's so much to bear
Blow me down
It's the wind 'n air
Tryin' its double dare to
Blow me down
Blow me down
It's no bother but
I'd rather not
That's easy to see
Wherever I go
I yam what I yam
That does it for me
Believe it or not
It's a lovely day
It's a perfect day
Blow me down
It's a lovely place
Think I'd like to stay but
Blow me down
Blow me down
It's nice and friendly here
I think I'll spend a year
Or two maybe three
I yam what I yam
Wherever I goes
I comes from the sea
Believe it or not
In the evenin' air
Lots of people there
Tryin' to blow me down
But unlike the clothes I wear
I haven't got a care, so
Blow me down
Blow me down
It's no bother but
I'd rather not
That's easy to see
Wherever I go
I yam what I yam
I comes from the sea
In the mornin' air
There's so much to bear
Blow me down
It's the wind and air
Tryin' to double dare to
Blow me down
Blow me down
It's no bother but
I'd rather not
That's easy to see
Wherever I go
I yam what I yam
That does it for me
Believe it or not

I'll never understand why people hate on this movie. Granted, it's not Robert Altman's greatest movie, but it's still a pretty good adaption of the comic strips and cartoons.
Altman himself was proud of the film, and defended it until his death saying it was "misunderstood" by critics, and he was absolutely right. When you consider the style of the earliest Popeye cartoons, this movie was a great homage to that. It's not slick, or polished, is not really plot driven, pretty much the anti-thesis of the comic tie-in blockbuster. But therin lies it's charm, and why it's so great. In that context, Robert Altman was the perfect man to direct it, as he didn't take the rough edges off the source material as many other director's working on this type of tie-in would have done.
This thing was and Is gold in its own simple ways...
Critically it was hated but it's a great movie!
Nerd!
This movie is my childhood right here
This movie owes a big amount of it's greatness not just to Robin but Harry Nilsson's fantastic songs
1:54 The only person in Sweethaven who wasn’t scared of Popeye was his good friend Wimpy.
This was, by far, the best cartoon to movie adaptation ever made...I mean, seriously, this *IS* a live action cartoon!!!!
My fav movie
The Rescuers was pretty good too
Corey Messick God, no! Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble? Talk about nightmare fuel, premature impotence, and the death of every sexual fantasy you may have had about Betty! Just the thought of it gives me the hibbley squibbits.
My aunt was an assistant to one of the actors in this film the actor would later on play Mr noodle from sesame Street
Very well done
“Oyls? That explains it, she’s down a quart.”
I love this movie, used to watch it a hundred times and it never got old
People are weird this is a fine and entertaining, this movie is everything you could want if you're a Popeye fan & the thimble theater was the right thing to do I have never been a big fan of musicals, I liked this movie a lot it is entertainment a fine way to remember Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall yes Shelley Duvall is still with us, I have seen this movie 4 time always FUN! To watch
I love this movie. It is incredibly faithful to the original Thimble Theater comic. I don't even like musicals but I watch it again and again and see something new every time.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER. ITS SO DARK AND DESOLATE EVEN, A TOWN IN THE SEA OF STRANGENESS. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL
Robin Williams will always be Popeye incarnate! Farewell sweet, brilliant jester....
If it wasn't for this movie, I wouldn't have that. "I am what I yam." Attitude that I have today.
Farewell Robin. You may of not been a physicist. But you knew what mattered.
This movie actually tanked when it hit theaters in 1980. Blow me down!! I think it's Robin Williams best work. I can't imagine anyone else in the role of Popeye.
How bout me? I seem to do part of this well. Heh heh heh
Not just his best work. His first work. This was Robin Williams's film debut
Robin Williams did an absolutely amazing job on this! He brought a cartoon to character to life!
there is no one like robin williams...hes a legend
Visited two years ago in that village in Malta. (It's been kept as a attraction park)
the feeling and atmosphere of this movie is great
My favorite Childhood movie ...I love you Robin !!!
williams was a damn master as popeye
I am what I am...wherever I go... I came from the sea." Best song of the movie!!
my favorite song from popeye makes me smile when I hear it :)
tubelover10 mines to came here just to listen to it .
Robin Williams is brilliant as popeye, this film was awesome :)
many people rip on this movie, thinking it's an adaptation of the Popeye cartoons. It's an adaptation of "Thimble Theater" comics, which came years before the cartoon.
George Geezil is such a great character. "You buy what I don't feel like selling, maybe two dollars..."
True, though one might argue the voice(not to be confused with his style of talking) is from the cartoon.
Popeye-"Buncha carrotsk?"
Geezil-"No, no."
Popeye-"Ya ain't got no carrotsk? What're those, prunes?"
Phooey on carrots!
Tak broccoli!
"You buy what I don't feel like selling it cost you two dollars."
Popeye pays for the carrots.
"Ah-ah-ah-ah! This is a nickel!"
"I pays what I feels like payin'!"
That's showin' him Popeye! XD
Huk, huk, huk. Robin did a great Popeye! He didn't exactly do the Poyeye cartoon changes in voice exactly, but this was already explained in advance in the movie press. Robin did it his own way and it worked. Shelley was great as Olive Oil... Ohh, Popeye! Olive, I yam what I yam, I'm Popeye the sailor man!:) RIP Robin. You made many of us happy with your movie roles and sense of humor.
Nobody but Robin could have played this part. We miss you so much Robin.
Love every second
If you go to Malta, make sure you visit "popeye's village". It's where they made this movie, it's possible to visit and if you can even make a short movie with real actors and have it in DVD. Me and my fiancee did it and it was very funny!
I love the fact that they actually built an entire town for this movie, and it is still around today. 😂
Masterpiece
Definitely, Robin Williams did an excellent job or portrayed Popeye in 1980 very well. I never listened to the outside or inside critics. And also, I thought Kurt Russell did an excellent job as Elvis for Elvis: The Movie (1979). Kurt got some heat on his performance as well.
memories of a tiny little black and white tv and top loader video player when i was a kid it was my favorite movie
Though this movie may not have been a box office slam when it came out, time has certainly been good to it when compared to movies made in today’s climate. The artistic faithfulness with which it was made under, and its uncanny originality have easily made it a cult classic. I personally love Williams 1 to 1 rendition of Popeye as I remember those cartoons and he is dead on. It may be lacking today’s attention deficit style action or drama, but in the end, it’s in a class of it’s own.
That movie was so funny. Robin as Popeye is so hilarious.
Thumbs up if you think they should have had Eugene The Jeep in this movie!
I loved this movie. Loved the sweet pee song.
I don't think there could be a better Popeye movie, everyone looks right and is casted well, the songs are familiar and the movie has a great look to it.
14 years later.... but totally agree. It was all just.... so.... RIGHT!
Wow, great actor.
i had this film on a betamax top loader video i watched this every day until i fell a sleep i need to get another copy on dvd lol
Oh, look at there
No one seems to care
You've got so much to bear ma'am, maybe I could-
Blow me down!
That's it then!
It's the wind and air
Just try to help her there and she-
Blow me down
Hold on there, maybe uh-
Blow me down
Its no bother but-
Oh yeah, you'd rather not huh?
Well that's easy to see
Hmm hmm, hmm hmm, hmm hmm
Wherever I go-
Nice lookin' knees
That does it for me
Can you believe that?
Its a lovely day
Well it's still a perfect day but-
Oh maybe ma'am, maybe you'd like to-
Blow me down again there
Its a lovely place
Think I'd like to stay-
Blow me down, you roll into town?
Trouble! x4
Yeah, local glum club
It's so friendly here
Oh, scary too, aye
Think I'll spend a year
Or two, maybe thre-
Oi, woah
I yam what I yam
Wherever I go
I came from the sea
Got me number but no one's lookin' it up, ain't it?
huh...
Both: Good day.
Have a greasy good day, but that's alright
"Got any carrots?"
"No, no"
"You ain't got no carrots? What are those? Prunes?"
"Oyl Carrots!!! Try broccoli!"
"I am in the mood for carrots, I need me vitamins"
"Oyl carrots with spinach?!"
"If I want spinach, I'll ax ya for spinach"
"Aw! Why you didn't say so? For you, it's a dollar!"
"How much is the broccoli?"
"Nickel maybe dime"
"And the spinach?"
"Dime maybe quarter"
"Then how come carrots is a dollar?"
"Dollar fifty, you buy what I don't feel like selling it'll cost you two dollars...ah, ah, ah, ah, hey deadbeat, no, this is a nickel!"
"I'll pay ya what I feels like paying, ep, ep, ep"
"Your not up to no good are you? because if you are there's a 50 cent up-to-no-good tax"
"Oh...shut up there"
Seems like everywhere
Lots of people here
Try to blow me down
But I'm like, close aware
I haven't
Hey, well, careful there
What blew him into town
Oh, the short arm of the law huh?
Blow me down
Blow me down!
I love this movie
“ Well bloow me do ha ha WAAAAOOOHHHH!!! HEY HEY HEY!!! AGHHH!!” 😂
Such an underrated movie. My best friend said it was probably the stupidest movie he saw. That’s part of the charm with the characters because many of the characters in the comic and cartoon were a bunch of idiots and resulted in hilarious mishaps with them.
i love this movie childhood memories
Brilliant!!
this is my favorite track in the movie.
robin Williams as Popeye. so great
If you're up to no good, there is a 50 cent 'Up-To-No-Good' tax.
nickle maybe dime "And how much is the spinach" Dime maybe a quarter
Then how come Carritsks is a dollar?
Dollar fifty. You buy what I don'r feel like selling will cost you two dollars.
RIP Robin Williams!!! 😭
I have an original copy of this movie with the RCA Stylus record movie player better known as SelectaVision. the record is pretty old but still in mint condition. i just love the vintage sound track.
50 cents up to no good tax? Those taxes are getting ridiculous. No doubt King John sent this taxman instead of Nottingham's sherrif
@1989gamemaster: When the sailor started, he was just an addition to Segar's Thimble Theatre, in which Olive Oyl, her brother Castor, and her ex-boyfriend Ham Gravy were the initial stars. But once Popeye was introduced, things took off. For all we know, the reason Poopdeck abandoned Popeye was 'cause Popeye refused to eat his spinach, but grew to like it over time, since Segar needed a reason for Popeye's strength.
Small village in Malta!!
@ShelterDog: I've been a fan since the Fliesher days (I've read Segar's work in compilation pieces and things, but I wasn't born when it was done), because I was lucky enough to see the classic Popeye shorts unedited on my network stations as a boy in the 1980's.
Rip we love you robin
It is with total regret that I read that Robin, (Popeye himself) derides this film. I went with my own, "mudder" to see this in the theater and we thought, (to our simple selves) that this was a great movie.
We still do =0)
"Blow me down"
We forgive ye Robin!
man this mirrors my life
Niagara Falls. From favorite movie at age five.
If you really watch over and over, there is always a performer in the background doing they're bit for the movie that I didn't see before! 😂
this movie had catchy songs in it robin williams rox
0:00-0:31 Blow me down. Looks like me old pipe. Wonder what it's doin' here. What a coinky-dinks. (chuckles) Hey! What is this? This ain't the orchestra pits! (grunts) (chuckles)
He had the mutterings and chuckles down pat.
The Max Fleischer Cartoons had Popeye speaking under his breath. The later cartoons did not really have that -- at least not to the degree that the old Fleischer cartoons had. What a surprise to have Williams sing a WHOLE song under his breath.
Damn, you cut it just before that great line. "Oyls? That explains it, she's a quart low!"
There were so many great lines in this movie. Robin Williams was a savant. I wouldn't be surprised if he improved them all.
Well whatta coinkidink that the best Popeye live-action film happened in the 80's! Blow me down!
i love his wit..... "i'll pays when i feels like payin..." XD
A few actors you may not recognize: At :17 one of the thugs with the piano is Dennis Franz, prior to his NYPD Blue days; at :27, that's future Academy Award Winner Linda Hunt, swatting Popeye with her bags; at 1:55, that's Paul Dooley (Breaking Away) as Wimpy; right behind him at 2:02 is Richard Libertini (All of Me, The In-Laws); then at 2:48 there is Donald Moffat (The Thing, Tales of the City); and at 3:05 that's Bill Irwin, best known for his theatrical clowning in Full Moon and Largely New York - he was also Tars in Interstellar. .
watching Robin Williams in this scene reminded me he was the only decent Hollywood person.
The people of Sweethaven had no reason to be scared of Popeye. He’s a nice guy.
Geezil: ah ah ah ah! Hey, deadbeat! No, this is a nickel!
Popeye tosses a grand piano up to the bridge like it was a tin cup. Then gets bowled over by Ma Brutus when she swings her laundry bag at him. Hahaha. BLOW ME DOWN!!
A massive loss to the world, a unique guy, compelling personality, I could not envisage anybody else playing Popeye I agree with MVerdoux comments too. I have watched him since Mork & Mindy days, and he he just seemed to get better & better. He had a lot of personal problems, and I guess it just got too much. I loved the Sweethaven song and stepping on the quay side tax man, In fact I loved all of it!!!!!
definitely
Hi. Danielle,
Sorry Sweety, Work got in the way, I appreciate you getting back to me, Hope everything is ok with you, what music do you like best regards, Colette
R.I.P.
I remember seeing this movie when it first came out but I have seen it since.
and two Canadian actors in the cast! Roberta Maxwell as "Nana Oyl", and Wayne Robson as "Chizzleflint"-- hmm... I wonder what happens to him behind the barberpole when Castor comes in to warn there's "a stranger in town," -- it seems that his arms lift as if he was caught up in the twisting mechanism and yet, when Popeye calls them the "local glum club"-- he (Chizzleflint) emerges from behind the barberpole for his note seemingly unscathed.
I love Popeye's 'mutters'. XD
NinjaGhost: Regarding The Chipmunks, if you're expecting something like the 80's revival version, then you'd might want to change your tune, because the movie is based upon upon the boys' initial meeting with Dave (which originally was in the 60's [though the movie has it set in present times, just to relate The Chipmunks to modern audiences], when the boys were more rowdy...even Simon). Hollywood's even bringing back The Muppets and Fraggle Rock by putting them on the big screen.
Broccoli: Nickel maybe a dime
Spinach: Dime maybe Quarter.
Carrots: Why are they $1.00. $1.50 you buy what I don't feel like selling it will cost you two dollars.
That's has to be one of the funniest banters. lol
Of all time
Don't know why but I thought the lady at the end was always kinda cute😊💕
@TherealRNO You seem to be a real big fan of this movie and Popeye. I'm just checking in here because I saw the documentary 'Who is Harry Nilsson?' last night and they talked a little about this movie in it. I never realized Nilsson wrote the songs for this. Loved this movie as a kid.
0:54 Narrator: Normally, Sweethaven had a welcoming nature, but this newcomer seemed like a stranger to the townspeople. He had one eye shut tight, he did a lot of weird muttering. His name at birth was unknown, but he called himself Popeye for a nickname.
It's friendly here (well, a little scary, too)
I think I'll spend a year
Or two, maybe three...
I yam what I yam
Wherever I go
I came from the sea
This is just hysterical! I wonder how much of it Robin Williams ad-libbed?
R.I.P. Robin Williams He played a really good Popeye and he sound just like the animated one from the cartoon when he said blow me down he did a song for it but he’ll always be missed and remember bye
Huk, huk huk! I didn't know that Popeye was such a good singer! :)
1:27-1:31 Blow me down, the local glum club.
1:27 LOL
Trouble
Trouble
Trouble
Troubooooooooooooooooowl
"Ah, the local glum club."
Every character was like a human character. Such a great movie m
I like the fact that the only town resident to treat Popeye nicely was Wimpy, who later became his friend.
If I had a nice hamburger right now and Robin Williams was alive and well, I’d be nice to everyone too. 😊
@@PetersPianoShoppe Same.
2:04 "IM STRONG AT THE FINISH WHEN I EATS ME CARROTS IM POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN"
Popeye kick ass!!!
sounds nice. Can you reccommend a hotel? And perhaps tell me some nice places to go and things to see? And whats the capital called?
@PhoenixPhire22 what I meant was, this sequence was shortened for the movie. I've got the DVD and this scene is about 2 minutes shorter than this version.
@radeakins No... this was definitely in the regular movie. I saw this a bagilion and one times as a kid.
There're only four movies I remember seeing as a small child in their original theatrical runs:
1. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
2. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
3. Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
And
4. Popeye!!!!!
I love Popeye and I've yet to see the movie and the HD cartoon.Shame on me!!!🤭😔
3:07-3:10 Hey, careful there. What blew him into town?
cool - have you been there? How many times? And when (summer?)
cheers
Anything else worth telling me?
I wish the UK release of the film wasn't so badly hacked to bits. This bit especially the song is cut as much as possible then they badly cut together bits with just music. ¬_¬
NinjaGhost: How realistic would it be to have CGI, semi-realistic Chipmunks that are a yard tall? ^_^
Being a Henson fan, I just hope that what's left of Team Henson is overseeing the production of the upcoming Muppet and Fraggle Rock films. I mean, it would be incredibly stupid to have the PC police complain about the Fraggles' lack of pants, despite that fact that the message of the original show was to sweetly & musically promote global peace & solidarity, despite societal differences.
1:31 Narrator: Trouble? Or so they thought. But Popeye was really here on business. Long ago, his father had disappeared. And he was willing to do whatever it took to search for him.
