- Anyone can grow this, no garden required! This superfood is SUPER easy to grow, right in your home. This is NOT Fool's Watercress, Apium nodiflorum (synonym Helosciadium nodiflorum) nor is it Garden Cress, Cress (Lepidium sativum). You can find those on other gardening channels. I'll show you how to grow true Watrecress in water! I LOVE baby watercress and I am sure you will too! It is tender, delicate and has a bit of a sweet pepper flavor when it is young. You will be able to reap the full nutritional reward of this little plant when you can grow it yourself and eat it right after harvest!

I create all components of the video with the exception of the music. I do all of the gardening, videography, editing, lighting, audio, uploads, and recipe creation (unless otherwise noted).
I am using my DIY Grow System for this plant. If you are purchasing lights, then remember, wattage measures energy usage and lumens measures brightness of light. You can have a very low wattage bulb with very bright light. You will find the lowest watt/high lumens in the LED lights.

The simplest and yet most comprehensive watercress video. Thank you.
Donna, what a amazingly handy window sill herb! Baby watercress right in the house! This is more like my kind of gardening! No back breaking work! Thanks for sharing with us how it's done!
Thank you! I hope you can give it a try soon.
Donna, I just love your videos! You do such a wonderful job in documenting gardening from seeding to eating. Last year you inspired me to start an indoor hydroponics system. I was successfully able to grow romaine lettuce during the winter. I love watercress and I am going to grow it using your method. Thanks Donna!
Love your southern accent
I Love the way you decorated your indoor growing set up to mesh in to your home!
It is so hard to have a plant set up in the home that is not a visually cluttered mess.
Chrystal Greene me too!
Thank you so much. I really enjoy it.
Best video regarding growing watercress that I've seen. So simple and inexpensive. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Donna, my watercress is looking great! Thank you so much!!! What an amazing little plant. I serve it on everything I serve to my family.
Wonderful!
Thank you, I bought watercres seeds yesterday as I an´t find it in Spain. I will start growing it as soon as I get the hydroponic fluid and the rocks. Thank you
I'm late but I want to thank you for all of this wonderful information! I've been trying to grow watercress for a couple months now and they just never really made it past the tiny sprout stage. I couldn't figure out why, but your explanations made me realize that I'm giving them too much dirt and not enough room to grow! Thankfully I still have a bunch of seeds left, and your examples look simple to set up and easy to follow. Now I know what I'm going to try next :)
Hopefully using just water without nutrient solution is okay? I'm growing it for my bearded dragon, not necessarily for myself, so I'm leaning on the side of caution when it comes to using nutrients just in case it might upset his system.
Sure, I think it might grow okay without nutrients, maybe not as fast? Idk
I'd love to take cooking lessons from you! All of your dishes look so healthy and flavorful! Thank you for your videos.
my daughter has just grown her first container of watercress. Now she wants to try and grow it in one container of soil, the other cotton wool. We love watercress, even just to snack on :D
That is awesome!
Hi I love water caress and it’s very good for hot pots as khmer people eat it all the time thank you for sharing I love all your voice and your video

I have grow lights set up already and have what’s needed to get started. All I’ve been doing before I start completely is to gain the knowledge from videos like yours. Thank you so much for your content!💚😊💯🫶🏼
Thank you! I'm happy they are appreciated by people like you!
Awesome..watercress is so precious but it's not easy to find in stores, you make it so easy to grow inside house...on top of fish tank...guarantee organic delicious green..
your voice is very soothing. good info
Thank you for this turned out to be a wonderful video. Something we can all grow and use for our daily health.
GOD'S JOY my friends.
Happy Gardening!
What a great video. Well done and thank you. Gonna try it
Thank you so much for your video. Perfect solution I have been looking for ❤️
I absolutely love your channel! I will be using a lot of your ideas. I especially want to try the watercress indoors. I also want to get some of the lemongrass!
I grow it in my fish tank. I have one that's like 9in tall so far. finally broke the water surface today :D. they love lots of water and any natural pond, brook water will work great. i find it growing in the brook by my house in Connecticut. idk where you are but if you can find it in the wild around you dig some up but be care full not to mess up the roots and use the water its in to grow it. i think usually any pond or brook water will suffice.
Thank you for sharing this watercress video. I've always wanted to grow it indoors...you make it look so simple!
I want to adopt you as my auntie.
What a wonderful indoor garden.
Had no idea they were this easy to grow
Fantastic video. Thanks .
I love this idea of growing watercress. Can you clarify where to get those little grassy beds that you put the watercress seeds into to help them get started? Or if we don't have them do you suggest just sprouting the seeds in wet paper towels and keeping it in water? Thank you!
Nice Donna. Try using coco coir as your medium next time. I get it from pet stores and its much cheaper than the rock wool!
Chuck
Thanks Chuck! How acidic is coco coir and does it change the pH? Also, the Sunleaves (rocks) are very porous so they add the air pockets I need since I am not using an air pump and do so manually.
Rainbow Gardens love this!
Coco coir has a near perfect natural pH level of 5.2-6.3 (for growing plants). Check it out for 10 bucks at Petco. In the reptile section. The 3 bricks will make a bunch of media. You will be surprised at how well it performs!
Chuck
Hi! I tried coco coir in my square foot garden about 4 years ago and they worked great. ua-cam.com/video/v_-HvGVFY1E/v-deo.html I am sure I could not use them as the main media because I really need the porosity, but perhaps I will experiment for the starts. Thanks!
I mix the coco coir with either rice hulls or perlite for a potting mix. I add composted horse manure and biochar for tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and cantaloupe in my new wicking bucket system.
Thanks again Donna for mentioning my channel in the description of that video. I got quite a few subs from that!
Chuck
Love your video, Nice garden😊
Love your video, you make it so easy. I will Definitely will follow this method. 😊👍
You can do it!
Thank you for this video! Very informative and well done.
I do the bottom holes with an old fork eated on the stove burner 😀
Neat idea!!
It would be wonderful to see a plastic free attempt. Brilliant video, thanks!
Seeing the plastic being used here means you don't see it in the trash.
Just starting my indoor watercress adventure and this is the best video tutorial I have seen on youtube yet. Wondering if I can use any rocks, to keep my main grow lifted, where you use shells? I live near a lake and there's a pile of rocks about the same size as those shells down by the train tracks.
Sure! I have used rocks too!
thankyou GOD BLESS YOU
I tryed so much I was not successful I will try your way thanks
Hey Donna - not sure what the differences are between the variety of microgreens but would rainbow radish cress microgreens be grown in hydroponics as well?
I just seeded some cress inside for the first time. I hope it's not too warm for mine to germinate and grow.
I heard it's good for preventing digestive system tumours
Boil up hard!!! Bacon bones and watercress, like tons of it...any other Maoris out there? That's us!!
Great video! I just started growing my own watercress by the window in my office. The growth has been slow but it's getting there. I was wondering how long do you keep your watercress around by cut and regrow before you start a new batch from seed s again? Or is it possible to start the first batch via seeds and then propagate via cutting to get an endless supply of watercress?
I divide it once the growth takes over the container. After many cuttings, the leaves get smaller and more dense, but by that time, I have usually started more (from seed) in another container. I do not really like it as much when it gets older, so I grow more form seed to keep it fresh and flavorful. It is a matter of preference if you want to plant more from seed or continue to grow from cuttings.
thanks for the response. I am looking to give it a go using a similar setup as yours (currently growing them in rockwool using kratsky method). I couldn't tell from the video, when propagating from a cutting, do I still need to put it in a rockwool or it's fine to leave it in the rocks directly?
at 5:21 when you put those 4 heads to the container, do you need to make sure that there is a hole underneath each of them? Do watercress root need to go through those holes to find bigger room to develop? How much depth in general do you leave for the roots? Many thanks.
hello @rainbow garden this plant also grows aggressively in the UK 🇬🇧 its invasive does not need any potting soil only water and strong sunlight
I love growing watercress in my fish tanks sister
by the way rainbow are you single ?
I like your voice it sounds beautiful
let me know Im already in love with you
Hi, thanks for the explanation, I dont have hydroponic solution but I do have a fish, kelp and a sea minerals liquide. Do you suggest any of them and if so, what quantity would you use for a litre? Thanks.
Donna, my watercress is wonderful - really enjoying it. However, I do have quite a bit of algae growing on top of the rockwool that is now starting to go white and crusty. I am using the nutrient solution you suggested and aerating daily, but it is still growing. It doesn't seem to be affecting the plants or the water - should I be concerned? I read something about the risk of fungus gnats.
hi Kellie! I have to clean it out periodically. Here is an example: ua-cam.com/video/XcVNk7wdE8Q/v-deo.html @ 2:35
Hi Donna, I remember watching your video on growing sprouts using grow light and I couldn't find the video. I have just bought a grow light and would like to find that video so I can get started. Could you let me know what is the title of that video?
Sure thing! ua-cam.com/video/JCDkTyinQQE/v-deo.html
Great video! Thanks!
Thank you.
nice , thanks for sharing
Hi I love your videos. I see lots of bugs on indoor plants I grow. How do you deal with this ?
on the nutrient chart leaf lettuce is ranked much higher than kale....hmm? I thought it would be the other way around
I made the 1000th like :)
Thanks
Welcome!
Hello! Thank you for your videos, you are very inspiring. My watercress plants are still young, about 2 inches high. I noticed some white stuff growing on the rock wool. Is it mold or mildew? Did I put too much nutrient in the water? Any advice you might have would be so helpful. Thank you and happy new year.
Hmmm, I am sorry, I have not experienced that issue personally. Sometimes the top of my rockwool turns a little green from the nutrient solution but does not present a problem.
Would it be ok not to use clear tubs/cups? Wondering if the roots really need light since in nature they do not have it in the soil. This way I could add a little more nutrient without algae, correct? Im new to this. Thanks for the great videos!!
Sure, you can use cups which are not clear. I just liked the appearance of them better than my other choice (red).
how many hours of light do you give your watercress plants? Im trying in an aerogarden and early sprouts leaves are yellowing and I wonder if its too many hours of light.
Hi. Will it grow same if in compost and not rockwool and gravels? Thank you
love your grow lights. Can you send a link for those too please?
Can you use a fine mesh stainless steel container filled with COCO COIR?
Would perlite work as the rocks?
Is this really sustainable if I want to eat 100g of watercress everyday?
Props on the Fuhrman ANDI score and choosing watercress and mentioning all the other high scorers you've made videos on. And casually mentioning the spinach and lettuce containers. But, what is up with all the products you're recommending buying? How do I do it with nothing? I have woodchips, compost, trash bin access, I already have seeds. Do I need aquaponic rocks and wool?
I have only grown it in water, so I am unsure how you can grow it another way.
What about if you add an aerator to the tub?
That would be great if you have one.
Do you germinate watercress under lights or in the dark?
I use light for watercress. Most seeds do not require light, but usually, the very small ones will require light.
How often do you need to drain the water and change it? Thanks
I change the water when I notice it is getting algae.
Thanks for this video!! Just wondering - I'm new to growing hydroponically; do you think I could add a small air bubbler to the water part underneath to keep it aerated?
Sure! I think that would work great!
EXCELLENT!
Thanks so much!
Do you have that list of the most highly nutrient greens to grow?
How often do you feed it with the nutrient solution? And does the water have to be alkaline, or is regular tap water enough?
Yes I have this same question - do you PH test and put lemon in the water you are using to replenish the bins with?
I didn't get the propagation part, it was too fast! Is this explained more in depth in a another video? I love watercress and would like to grow huge amounts without having to always buy seeds! Thanks
Never mind! I watched more of the video and I got what I needed. Thanks for all your great videos!
How often do you water with the solution? This is very interesting thank you! Just found your wonderful channel, subscribed and liked! I think I’ll give it a try 😃
Hi! You don't need to feed it much, it seems to grow great o it's own. I think I fed it about once a month, when I changed the water. The more nutrient solution you use, the more algae will grow in the water. So just a tiny bit every now and then.
Rainbow Gardens thank you!
Im excited and your videos are fantastic
@@isatoro77 Thank you!
Very informative thank you! I'm going to try to grow some. Will I be able to regrow the ones I get from the grocery store?
Good question. I'm going to google it
Can I grow watercress in my fish tank or will it drown? It would be awesome having it in my tank.
Do you initially grow the Watercress from a seed?
how many hours each day do you leave the led lighting on ?
Can you make a video of you cleaning the tubs?
Sure!
I covered it last year in this video: ua-cam.com/video/XcVNk7wdE8Q/v-deo.html
Could anyone please recommend where I can get quality seed?
I have stems
how would u grow tomato's inside? I live in a desert so temp alone would kill them. I'm growing 3 by da door but there not producting anything... but look weedy....
Cut the tops
Will this work in my Aerogarden? Thank you!
I think it would work great. :)
why do you use lemon juice? -you just pour straight lemon juice on the rock wool then mist with water?
The instructions are on the rock wool package. This video should help you:
ua-cam.com/video/y_PMvMXZsyo/v-deo.html
watercress has lots of iron . I only make soup with shrimp.
I love your informin video, but have a question ... if it is not to late ;-) why only use hydroponic solution, is it a lot different from what we use for dirt ..... thanks for your helping videos?
Nice segment lods brilliant idea let's connect come to my home😀
WHAT IS THE LATIN NAME OF “ REAL “ - WATERCRESS ? ?
where do you buy nutrient solution to add to water?
Grow Big Nutrient Solution: amzn.to/2jxowHf
BTW, the fumes from melting plastic are carcinogenic. So, I prefer to make holes in plastic with knife.
How many seeds do you put in each pod? You make excellent videos ...thanks
They are so tiny, I honestly have no idea. I would say I put about 10 per Rockwool plug. however, if you want to grow them into big plants, you would need to thin them down to about 1 per plug. I don't mind if they are crowded and small, I like baby watercress.
Rainbow Gardens Thanks I ordered some and the dual lamp hopefully you get credit. Keep up the good work.
Wonderful! Thanks so much and Happy Gardening! I saw I have several orders so it must be working for me. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing who is ordering :( , so I cannot thank them.
How are you not having any issues with fungi? Great video by the way : " )
It's a very weak nutrient solution. I have tested stronger solutions, and YES, algae grows much more fast than the one I use in this video. It still grows but I noted in the video to clean the container about every other month or so. I change the water regularly.
how do you change the water ? What type of tool, etc do you use ?@@RainbowGardens
Love this video... ordering seed stat!
Wonderful!
where can i get nutrient nutrition?
Hi, Hope this helps:
