    So do you lay carbon fiber down directly on the foam, and then fiberglass over it?

    Hi Guys,
    great video series...thanks for sharing.
    I'm starting a surfboard to hydrofoil board conversion. I wanted to ask what is the 'expanding epoxy glue' you use to place the fin box?

      Hi Pari, we have a foaming agent from our resin supplier that can be added to our standard resin.

    How do you move the wet carbon over to the board without pulling it out of shape?

    Hello Mr. James. Very late reply on your video and I really hope that you can answer my question.
    Why do I always end up with wrinkles after vacuuming my boards? ie: I put carbon on the blank (no wrinkles). On top of this I put peel ply (again no wrinkles). On top of this I put breather fabric (again no wrinkles).
    All this I put the board carefully in the vacuum bag (making sure not to move things), and pull a vacuum. The vacuum bag does get some wrinkles (not more or less than what you have in your video)
    After curing (room temperature) and removing everything my board does always have wrinkles.
    I've tried many times, but ALWAYS end up with wrinkles ! What am I doing wrong?

    • @CarbonArtWindsurf
      @CarbonArtWindsurf  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Kian, so this could be 2 things, the breather fabric is too thick and forming wrinkles that then pulls the laminate up into, sort of molding a wrinkle, or maybe too much vacuum so the side of the board with the new laminate is compressing so there is surplus material that can form wrinkles, vacuum inlet should also be on the opposite side of the board to the wet laminate.

      @@CarbonArtWindsurf Thank you for your answer. Today I did another test and discovered that (1) I am using to much epoxy and (2) that the breather fabric I use is no good.
      The wrinkles I get are actually only epoxy! So after doing another test with less epoxy, and new (thicker) breather all was perfect!
      So.. Lessen learned. Less epoxy and do not use cheap breather fabric!

    I watched thru the rest of the videos and you go on to sand and eventually paint over the carbon fiber. could this be done with a clear coat leaving the carbon fiber as the finished look?

    • @CarbonArtWindsurf
      @CarbonArtWindsurf  8 років тому +1

      +TufRiverboards Hi! Yes you sure can - we do so on our Pro Finish Slalom boards (see www.carbonartwindsurf.com/boards/slalom/ ) Just note that generally clear sanding coats are harder to work with, so requires additional work for the perfect finish :)

      awesome. I have been looking into resin to fabric ratios and what not and was thinking, why not just wet out the fabric on a table with the proper resin amount. Couple days later I came across your video thanks for sharing. You do nice work, looks great.

    Hi James, I have watched all of the factory talk series to learn more about how to build a windsurf board or what it takes to build a windsurf board. So after watching your videos i was inspired to build my own windsurf board which is part of my school project. could you maybe give me some tips on how to build a windsurf board, and how to use carbon fiber?
    Thanks, David

      Best bet probably be to start on something smaller first, you'll want some practice before jumping up to a full board! :)

      It’s because the use the widest carbon for everything. Sometimes stand ups are 38” wide and sometimes short boards are only 18 1/2”
      So having the largest roll of carbon saves money and convince, instead of buying a roll for every sized board.

    I don't see the benefit of using carbon fiber on a board. It's not structural so why go to that expense?
