Hi Jason, thanks for this great video of Maple Syrup production and Charcoal uses. Really enjoyed the footage of the Cattle chilling under the Shade Tree. Looks like they didn't have a care in the world. The whole idea of Rotational Grazing is great as well as every animal contributes some to improve the whole process.
I noticed the Robin's returning here in Northwest Indiana around the 25th of January. I figured when seeing them so early maybe we would get an early Spring.
Enjoyed the process you go through to use all of the Charcoal. Interesting how you take the hot Coals and put them in the Metal Can to cool completely. One benefit you didn't mention with Activated Charcoal is how good it is for humans for digestion. If you could grind it fine enough you could put it in capsules and it would be great for the whole family.
Your kitchen must smell fabulous with when finishing the Maple Syrup on the Stove. How do you clean that 5 gallon Tub when finished as Maple Syrup is so sticky? Also when Maple Syrup production is done it must be a big job to clean all the sticky surfaces.
Keep up the great work Jason of creating videos. I think you have a great gift to connect well with your audience.

That is a fascinating thought that the char could be good for digestion as well. Hadn’t considered that. Ben, you’re such an encouragement to me here, thank you. The 5 gal pot and all surfaces are just rinsed with hot water. I like rinsing the pot and dumping water in compost to chickens - that way nothing’s wasted. Hopefully an early Spring with your Robin observation!🤠🌱

Ah yes the fine art of biochar. Perhaps activated biochar ingestion would be beneficial, but what do you consider activated? Biologically activated? Simply cracked and porus due to the hot to cold process? I would think biochars main purpose as a part of a diet would be absorbtion of excess nutrients (Think of a cow getting fed alfalfa and corn, green runny manure, maybe biochar would balance this.) But for us, I'm concerned that we know better and biochar would simply cause malnutrition instead of nutrition. Most of the food that we eat lacks nutrition as it is. I would hesitate to ingest biochar, as the negative impact is probably worse than ingesting woodchips for filler fiber (nondigestable nutrients)
IF you are more inclined towards aiding your stomach and digestive tract microbiome I would suggest non-pasteurized sauerkraut without perservatives

@@TobyElGato I'm not sure about the process to get Activated Charcoal but I know it is great to help with digestion and other Stomach issues.

I'm just skeptical because most people alive would not benefit from it, atleast from what I understand. It would have to be inoculated in some sort, but generally speaking simple carbs are not good for you, aka dense sugars like maple syrup, honey, sugar, including molasses. The main benefit from adding char would then have to be biological or fiber related, as your body cannot actually process and utilize the char. With the main drawback of it wanting to absorb anything it comes into contact with.

@@TobyElGatoAs with all things, I guess it depends on context and circumstances. I’ve heard soaking in a good compost or even urine can activate (charge with microbial activity). For cattle, I’ve heard it’s great for the same thing hay does on very lush Spring pastures - slowing digestion, allowing full absorption of the higher protein. Interesting thoughts on the human side!

for filters I believe you want activated charcoal, for that you take those same red hot coals and use water to quench them rapidly opening all the pores.

Do you ship the maple syrup at all? I'd love to give it a try!
