It's not surprising, just no one wants to pay for it. The American mentality is too individualistic.
... Maintenance and upkeep wouldn't have done shit. We got 30% of our annual rainfall in two days. The dam was plugged with debris from the increased rainfall and it started flowing around it.
Also... "The Midwest" is a fking big area.

This socialist type Democrat President Roosevelt had an administration that built the Hoover Dam, Golden Gate Bridge, Tennessee Valley Authority and countless other infrastructure projects. Electricity and clean water was brought to the most remote farms and towns.
BIDENS historical infrastructure bill of 2021 was passed for projects such as this. Where is the money?

Most dams in North America are. They were all built from the 30s-60s and are in need of billion dollar repairs, reconstruction, or collapse.
Send Infrastructure Act money to that area.

I have to ask - I've been watching this house on the news for the last 3 days, as the land erodes more and more. But did no one think of knocking the house down when there was the chance? What damage will this do, downstream?
You think they should have drove heavy equipment up to the house and took it all away??
I really hope that they got all of their belongings and valuables moved out before hand.
