It's called the heat of passion, which most familial murders happen in. You make a split-second decision that kills someone. And the Egyptians figured that you would eventually learn to live with it as you watch your unfortunate decision dessicate and stink beside you.
IDK, being tied to a rotting corpse, spoiling under the hot sun covered in flies and maggots, for three days is a pretty f'ed up punishment. That'd traumatize you more than paying back 180 times more than the item you stole.
Different culture millennia before modern medicine, so death was more accepted than it is now. While murder might have been viewed as harming someone that moment, grave robbing, or otherwise harming the dead, was viewed as harming someone for an eternity. It's like giving someone a small cut vs cutting off someone's entire limb.

Egypt is located in northeastern Africa. A large portion of it is located in Asia. Egypt is an African-Asian country. It is a country in the Middle East. Most of its people live in northern Egypt, specifically in the Delta. All this will tell you that we are closer to the Mediterranean Sea and the Levant. Well, the Egyptians and Greeks were similar to each other. Look at the statue of the seated scribe and the statue of Ra’hotep and his wife, both of which were made before the pyramids were built. Look for the statues of Ramesses II, Khafre, Nefertiti, Horemheb, and other statues. Search for the mummy of Ramesses II, Yuya, Tuya, Teti and Tuthmosis IV. Scientists examined Tutankhamun's DNA and found that it was 70% of men in Britain and 60% of men in France. And 40% of Spanish men share the same DNA, so Egypt was closer to Europe than you might think. . Africans have migrated to Egypt in large numbers in the last 300 years, so current Egyptians are blacker than ancient Egyptians. And yes, the Crete civilization (Minoan civilization) used to color men red and women white, just as the Egyptians did, and this civilization had a great relationship with Egypt. It's called the heat of passion, which most familial murders happen in. You make a split-second decision that kills someone. And the Egyptians figured that you would eventually learn to live with it as you watch your unfortunate decision dessicate and stink beside you.

Sweden makes you swear an oath before testifying, and lying or purposefully “forgetting” about anything in your testimony can land you up to 15 years in prison, depending on how much you lied and the severity of the charges

I think the nose thing is actually what prompted the start of nose reconstruction surgeries. I read a book that talks about how the surgical procedure of taking skin from the forehead and turning it into a nose was a practice that was used to help restore the dignity of those who had them lopped off. Then again, its been a while since I reread it so I could be wrong.

its not brilliant its getting let off east, humidity makes a dead body smell the most, the heat and in this case extreme heat will dry most of it up before it even starts to rot(smell wise), aside frm their skills there’s a reason why Egypt was so good at doing mummies, the climate alone could mummify bodies(which is wat they did sometimes)
anyone who killed their family member clearly had a high amount of hate ur Overestimating the psychological dmg it would do to the person
also counting sleeping its barely 2 days where u actually have to interact with the body
@@Honest_Slowpokeare you kidding me? A body goes into decay well before 10 days left unattended. Bugs and animals will no doubt infect and eat on the corpse which will then do the same to you. Not sure why you imagine Egypt to be an ice chamber which will preserve a body for 10 days.
I think we need this reinstated in places.
It also has a religious component since the murdered person has a good chance to realice who killed him and deny access to the afterlife.

On 2nd thought, probably wouldn’t work out to well for serial killer like Dahmer: 3 days later “where’d the body go?”
- Did you think about you've done?
- Yes! Even got some cool ideas for the next projects.

So that's who Dahmer is.
Dahmer points at the dump he just took "he got mixed up with some shit"
I think tying somebody to a decpmposing corpse is a pretty good way to make them second guess their actions tbh 💀

They though the mummies will come back to life uk
so that's where "Last Dance With Mary Jane" came from.
Bro this is a slap on the wrist compared to the other kingdoms back then
If we had these punishments today, there would a lot less of it
Most humane punishments compared to the other Empires
Chaining a murderer to the dead body for 3 days is a pretty solid punishment though

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Egypt has the least savage punishments so far
Should bring back that last one for sure

I don’t know how many people telling the truth and get a person convicted end up with a mistrial due to an accusation of lying AND the retrial finding the accused innocent.

Paying back 180x is actually a decent rule, now some of the others...
its cool on theory, imagine you steal a fish or a vegetable to not starve, now you are a Slv.
@@danielkjm good thing we have a modern welfare state so people would only have to pay back 180x the value of an entire shelf of birth control they stole to resell on facebook marketplace
nuh, terrible, glad its a thing of the past. Biggest contributor to petty crimes such as these is poverty. If a person has to steal to eat, then they sure arent able to return 180 times its worth. Its a legal pretext to enslave those who dare get food to not die from starvation
@hishenmathurin2844It isnt your right to enslave people because they dared to try to survive
@hishenmathurin2844It is your human right to food. And if you are starving, it does actually give you a right to steal if you would die
It’s crazy how many of these are non lethal
There's a reason the Abrahamic God has endured being worshipped when the rest of the Levantine gods have become little more than interesting bits of archaeology.
Finally, we need to bring these back please.

well the British already broke rule 1
honestly, you’d expect the, “worst crime,” to have the worst punishment, but no, they just beat you up and amputate you.
"just"
Good to know history never changes and murder never gets taken seriously....
A bit ironic how grave robbing was such a heinous crime and then the British came along and literally ate all the mummies and stole all the shiny sh**t like it was nothin 😭
Not ironic at all , it's simply because these rules existed during the ancient times "before the christ was born" so there was noth called British empire before the 18th century lol
Robbing someone grave was basically dooming them for eternity in ancient Egypt

Locking up people, much worse than amputations ^^
