1861 Black Forest Review: rb.gy/38bucg
Don't be fooled; look closer at each of these pens, because they are not created equal. The Black Forest edition of the Hong Dian 1860 and 1861 fountain pens are very nice pens, especially for those who appreciate a stealthier design. In this video I will highlight their likenesses and differences to help you decide which one is "write" for you.
Great comparison, very helpful. Thank You.
There's SO many pens out there, but I'm hard pressed to get behind pens in this corner of the market. For less than $10 more there's Pilot, Lamy, Monteverde (the Ritma is my daily driver), Conlin and others. Maybe it's the feeling that Amazon and Ali give me?? The 1861 seems like it'd be a good fit for me though.
You have to go with what seems best for you. Enjoy the journey wherever it might lead.
Does Hongdian have proprietary cartridges? I thought there is international size :(
Hong Dian uses a proprietary cartridge and converter. I have, probably, said in error that they take standard international, as I assumed that all of the Chinese pens did. I've been learning otherwise. I checked my inventory of other proprietary c&c's and found that the Lamy cartridge will fit in HD pens but not their converters. That seems odd, but it's true. Thankfully, you can pick up the HD converters very cheap.
The price on Ali can change on daily basis. That is sick!
What bugs me, too, is when they advertise a really low price, but when you go to the site, the price changes.
@@thepenman357 That's probably because of taxes. They advertise the netto price, but then apply a tax applicable to your country (ie. European VAT) and all you see is a brutto price.
@pzwolski what I've found is that they are advertising for new buyers, not return buyers. Also, the advertised price is for some supplement items, like nibs or converters.
What’s the size of the nib?
@switchfish24 without having access to them at the moment, I believe that the 1861 has a #5 nib, and the 1860 Max has a #6 nib tip.
Looks like knock-offs of Graf von Faber-Castell classic fountain pensto me.
From what I was able to find, I might see the HD as being inspired by the FC, but they're different enough that I wouldn't call them knock-offs. But I see your point.
