We were surprised at what a difference these springs made and would highly recommend them. Usually the install is quite simple and can be done in a short amount of time.

Thank you for your great videos!! I know this is an older video but I assume people like me are still finding and watching these install videos. I originally installed the rear sumo springs when the van was empty and used both spacers. At that time it was barely touching and made a significant difference in the ride. After building out the van and adding significant weight the ride was extremely rough. I just removed one of the spacers and it made a tremendous difference in softening the ride

When we built our van, we bought those back and rear sumo spring and had installed by a garage shop for $40 labor. It took them 20mn. We cannot tell the difference in driving since we never drove with the factory ones :). But The back sumo springs lift the van 1-2 inches.

Nice job. Love it when you put up DIY projects. You always explain the process in clear terms that help with understanding. I only put on the rear Summo assists. I’m considering a Van-compass 2” lift. I can tell a big difference in driving even with only the rear done. The garage that put them on only used one spacer, saying it fit to tight. Did you have that issue? I kept the unused spacers in case needed later. So much better when you can do it yourself.

Great looking dog. I installed the Sumo Springs on my 2018 Winnebago Travato, it also is a heavy vehicle, around 9,000 pounds. The ride was completely changed for the better. Installing the rears was a walk in the park, I had some difficulty with the front springs, I removed the tire and that gave me a little more room to work. Nice video, I hope that these springs work well for you.

Have sold my first one, I had to replace the front struts on her, and the mount brackets, she had a rattle when you went on a dirt road, that went away after they were changed. Get the Bilsteins, I also bought 40mm spacers to raise the front up a couple inches to help with clearance and the levelness. Thanks for the videos,👍👏

For my rear bump install, the welds on both nuts broke when I was getting the OEM bumps off. I had to use a reciprocating saw to cut them off (since they were just spinning at that point) touch up paint, then use a locking washer and nut in the channel that the OEM nut was originally welded into. If you break a weld, don't worry! It can be saved. Be mindful of brake lines and wires when removing the old bumps! I only had 30k miles and used penetrating spray as well, so bad luck I guess for me....

The recommendation I got so far was the black ones for my van. We will be adding a spare tire rack combo ladder. Not sure if that will change it to the yellow. Sway on highway is not as bad. The first thing I did with our van (it weighs the same as your's) was to add a leaf to the rear springs. At this weight you're pushing it's max capacity and I wanted some additional wt carrying capacity so as not to cause parts to wear out prematurely. I have not increased the overall wt of the van just it's capacity.

    • @oneadVANtureatatime

Yes! They completely removed that tipping feeling for us and you can just order the rear sumo’s on Amazon. If you are not that heavy you may want to use both spacers that come with it already assembled. Because they are bump stops they need to make contact when turning to get the results. We are so heavy that they are touching even with just one spacer. It's a huge difference, we love the improvement.😀

Thank you for the good advice. We ended up going with a stand-up paddleboard a few months ago and are loving it. We added more solar to the roof and have limited space now. 😀

How many miles are on your PM? Ours is a 2014 159 inch wheelbase with 127,000 miles. We bought it with 122K on it. As far as we know the struts and shocks are original and it handles very well. It's a 3500 so the rear sway bar may make a difference. As simple as they are, $254 for the Sumo bump stops on the rear seems expensive.

We only have 85k miles but have a heavy load and like the remote bumpy roads. Pretty sure we are taking years off our van's life limit faster than normal. I have heard the 3500 ride smoother and can handle the weight better so great choice there. We are currently reducing weight anyway we can and buying time for the strut replacement. We have been pleasantly surprised with the sumo springs. 😀

So how many spacers did you end up using ?

Just one and they are still touching, what a huge difference in the ride. We are loving them

Would leaving 2 spacers make it even smoother?

you really need more and better leaf springs with that much weight

Yes, we may add a leaf spring at some point.

it is needed with lots of back end constant weight in the Promaster -- I pick up my winnebago Travato GL at the end of May and plan to do OHV 3in lift at some point and other suspension improvements down the road.. may see you folks as I camp around the NW.. Based out of Spokane WA. old and retired so this is not a full time thing for me.. but hope to use the van enough to enjoy retirement

Fully loaded with us inside we are at 8600 pounds. We have been trying to get the weight down over the past year and maybe closer to 8k now.
