    Ugritone is a very niche case.
    Theyre raw as fugg, and even the mic choices reflect the grimey underground vibe
    That being said dieswitch was one of their first foreays, and was always in the $5 teir of product.
    One of their larger librarys, like northern artillery or modern doom, or the new faster louder.
    But the interface is a mess, but i got a soft spot for the underdogs

    • @AiiZStudio

    I'm gonna recommend Invasion to pretty much anyone, I have used it for synth pop, rock, metal, deathcore, shoegaze, and it pretty much never fails in any genre I throw it on, the samples are unreal. If you know how to choose the correct samples and mix the mic levels, you really dont need to mix them much especially if you use Turbo

    ML is amazing, and it's crazy how good the free version is. But time and time again I find myself going back to Ugritone's libraries. Some are just garbage, but some sound so good, so raw and dirty, like ML would never be able to. KVLT 2 is probably the best one I've tried so far. So, a combination of ML and Ugritone pretty much covers all my needs.

    • @AiiZStudio
      @AiiZStudio  5 місяців тому

      Yeah I mean, people might think I’m biased because I’m now an ML artist, but everything Mikko puts out is absolute fire!
      I have heard good things about KVLT2 but my experience with ugritone plugins has been unfavourable. Between the samples themselves sounding subpar and the GUI of the plugins themselves being difficult to use, it’s really put me off using them. Maybe I’ll give them another go at some point. I’m glad to hear they’re working for you though! 👊🏻👊🏻

      @@AiiZStudio Cool! Subscribed :) My 5 penny to the topic: for now I stick with two libs, which are OKW Metal and Krimh Drums. Krimh Drums is the most natural sounding library ever created, yet it's still punchy and fits any metal genre. While OKW Metal is a superb choice for THAT 2000s-2010-s modern-metal (aka metalcore) sound. Perfect for covering some 2000s era metalcore classics. But now I have this strange desire to obtain Hertz Drums, but they are pricy as fuck with all of the expansions. Anyway I still have doubts because I feel like they're lacking round-robins and not too many samples which makes them sound kinda robotic. Especially the snare, on lower velocities you can hear the same hit just in low volume.

    When it comes to the EZDrummer expansions...
    DFH: Sounds like a joke, huge props to the guy who made it sound good on Catch 33. Would only use it for comedy metal or for intentionally sounding bad in an ironic way. You can make it sound slighty decent when you dial down the onboard compression but it still can't compare to the modern stuff. Minging for sure for the built in presets, can be taken to a Floppy if you dial down the comp.
    Metalheads: Love it, especially for the novelty of having Thomas Haake's actual kit. Great for this late 2000s djent and sumerian sound! Might be a bit too dynamic to the point it can sound weak sometimes. It slaps.
    Metal Machine: Still my favorite after all these years, Andy Sneap made a masterpiece! Perfect for that 2000s "real" metal sound, especially modern Thrash. Drum bae for sure!
    Metal!: Great shells, shit cymbals. Aight, or It slaps if combined with different cymbals.
    Made Of Metal: Absolutely incredible for the 90's stuff like some of Collin Richardson's most prolific productions, wouldn't say I like it for modern metal. It Slaps.
    Drums Of Destruction: Weird... I think it's really good for lo fi metal stuff, like myspace core or slam with that Chris Adler snare. The toms sound especially weird and the mixing doesn't sound very polished... Aight.
    Progressive: Sounds like they tried to challenge GGD, epic fail. Might sound decent for a very specific type of prog (Tool, Karnivool) but definitely not encompassing prog as a whole or even coming close. Floppy.
    Dark Matter: Pretty cool, especially for alternative metal. Not a sound I'd typically even produce but it's really good for what it does. It Slaps
    Death Metal: Kinda like Metal Machine 2.0 with added brutality. Sounds incredible especially for modern death metal and deathcore. It Slaps
    Modern Metal: Another attempt to try taking some of the marketshare from GGD, and once again failed but much better than the Progressive kit. I'd honestly consider the short and snappy kit from the expansion a really nice kit for the types of prog the Progressive kit doesn't cover, however for the music Putney usually produces this lacks the power, Putney heavily disappointed in that one. Aight.
    Duality (will include both of them): I don't like the idea of having two totally radical expansions instead of one balanced sounding one. Both kits are too extreme to their side (1 being dark, 2 being bright) to the point they're not really usable, and they're both mixed really weirdly, will never end up on a recording of mine. Floppy
    Post Metal: Really unique flavor for a very unique and specific type of metal. Just like the Dark Matter that's not stuff I'd reach for but it's really good at doing what it's supposed to. Aight

      @AiiZStudio  9 місяців тому

    A bit off topic. I have a Drumforge Bergstrand and it is too heavy on the CPU. I basically can't use it. I have no problem with any Kontakt drum library otherwise, not even with Superior Drummer 3. Can you, please, compare if Drumforge Matt Greiner has similar CPU usage? Thank you.

    • @AiiZStudio
      @AiiZStudio  Рік тому

      I’ve never had any issues with Bergrstand, but Matt Greiner’s CPU usage is noticeably more than Bergstrand. But that’s because theirs more samples and the velocity layers are much deeper. If you can run SD3 but not Bergstrand, I would check your settings/hardware on your machine, because that shouldn’t be happening! For example, if your samples are all on a disk drive instead of an SSD, that will make it run much slower.

I didn’t buy modern and massive as I hear it everywhere in bedroom djent, which isn’t really my jam. SD3 is absolutely massive, and probably the industry standard, but it has that price barrier. However, I do hope to pick that up next year. I’ve not heard anyone using addictive drums, and I’m not familiar with that one at all. Obviously if someone wants to send me licenses for those, I’d love to make some content on them, though!
      Which EZX libraries don’t suck in your opinion?

      @@AiiZStudio Supeiror drummer is to drum sampling software as the les Paul is to guitars. You can pick up a 2tb hard drive for like £30/40 so that solves that issue.
      There’s a ton of people who stand by addictive drums as the most versitile drum plugin. I probably agree. It’s seriously good.
      What makes a drum plugin sound metal is how you process it, a black beauty snare has been used on death metal and classic pop and jazz and rock and pretty much everything. A drum isn’t simply “a djent drum”. It’s the way you process and play it which matters.
      The death metal EZX is their biggest selling, and probably for a reason.
      Dark matter ezx, drums of destruction, metal heads and made of metal are generally agreed to be the best metal ones.
      All the ones you picked minus duality 1, which isn’t necessarily geared towards metal metal, are like a decade old lol. Back in the day, people had never heard anything like these libraries. These days, they’re very old and worn down, but are still better (in terms of velocity layers, quality of instruments, mixing purposes) than most out today.
      I think in the grand scheme of things you should get SD3 along with death and darkness and the metal foundry, and then maybe come back to this.
      Apart from that, cool idea, and super underrated video!!

      @@ross_jones_musicEZX modern metal definitely isn’t over a decade old. And I did mention that the others are old. I didn’t mention in the video, but I did down here in the comments section that although I would love to grab the death metal ezx, as it’s essentially a lite version of half of death and darkness, which I’m planning to get next year, it seems pointless to basically buy those samples twice. Storage isn’t the issue for me with SD3, I have plenty of storage, it’s the flipping €379 price tag. I just can’t justify that right now! I’m hoping I will be able to when their next sale/Black Friday deal comes along. If so, I’ll grab D&D and area 33 for sure!
      I will almost definitely revisit this around this time next year. I may even have my own library out by then 👀
