  • When United Airlines placed the biggest widebody aircraft order in US history at the end of 2022, it was uncertain if any airlines could commit to anything bigger or better in 2023.
A few carriers have indeed risen to the challenge in the past year, placing massive, blockbuster orders with both Airbus and Boeing. Even United Airlines makes an appearance this year!
In today’s video, we’ll look at 6 particularly large orders announced by airlines all around the world.

We should note that Ryanair announced a firm order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX 10s in May 2023, with options for an additional 150. As stated by Ryanair, "Given the size and scale of the transaction, it will be subject to shareholder approval at Ryanair’s 14 Sept. AGM."
And if you're watching this the day it goes public, then Merry Christmas!

There is a video on simple flying about The 321XLR.
      Some carriers have showed interest.
But AB have not been permitted to build the aircraft with the size of extra fuel tanks they originally intended, due to regulatory constraints.
So it will not have the range that they wanted.
It remains to be seen, how many airlines will take it with the reduced range.

It is becoming clear that narrowbodies rule - encroaching into routes where you once would never have dreamed of flying anything but a widebody. That's because they've got bigger with longer range while keeping their lower costs (long thin fuselage=less drag, easier to build). This in turn is the result of better design and manufacture, especially composites. Boeing missed the boat deciding to persist with the 737 years ago rather than building a clean-sheet 320 (and 330 and 340) killer. At the smaller end the 220 is going to eat everyone's lunch, including the 320's, if Airbus ever gets its supply chain woes sorted.

Boeing is a series of disasters waiting in the wings. I would not step on any of their aircraft in its current state of decay. Outright dangerous according to many of the engineers in their 50's with the most experience. Every-time they open their mouth and point at flaws, significant maintenance lapses, missed roll-out of system upgrades, and ongoing bugs Boeing shuts them up or replaces them with less experienced people. It has been like this apparently for two decades of decline.
