Related to the Glencoe Massacre: In my college days, a professor of British History recounted a tale told by a former student named Campbell. This fellow once had occasion to meet the Prince of Wales, and introduced himself to HRH. Upon hearing that the man's name was Campbell, Prince Charles told him, "You and I are members of the two most hated families in Scotland".

There is a "something" there that is hard to describe. Scotland is a country where you feel the presence of those who have gone before us, no more so than in Glencoe. It's beautiful, haunting, tragic and powerful.

Glencoe is an area which I always believe should be viewed in slightly inclement weather. With mist and a little rain the place can become almost haunting.

Thank you. I can't wait to watch this. I drove through Glencoe a couple of years ago with an English tour guide who not only didn't know where the site was but had never heard of the Glencoe Massacre. From Australia

@Vicki. I bet he was feigning it. A Tour Guide; a Sassanach, and he didn't know anything about Glencoe. In all seriousness Vicki, I have a lot of English friends, and I will swear this on a stack of Bibles; everyone of them asked me if I had been though Glencoe; especially around 3pm or when the sun was setting and the mist was settling over the Glen. I asked why they would ask such a question, and everyone of them (independently) said They felt quite eerie travelling through Glencoe. They said they felt as though a million eyes were boring into them. My response was what do you expect. The Argyles (Campbell of Argyle) murdered The Clan Macdonald of Glencoe, whilst the slept. I had been though Glencoe and never felt that eeriness which I told them about and they asked why was that. I said: Because I am a Highlander, I was one of their own.

My father who doesn't have Scottish as far as he knows, has always had an absolutely huge fascination with Scottish anything. He identifies with much of the persecution that happened, especially of the Scottish Covenanters. He even wrote a poem about Richard Cameron. Samuel Rutherford's writing are a favorite in our family. My father has Irish ancestry and his Irish Tartan is very similar to the Tartan of the Scottish Clan my mother has in her ancestry.

I have never been to Glen Coe but my dad used to tell me about our family history. Once when I was working in the corporate world I had a one-on-one requirements-gathering meeting with someone who turned out to be a Campbell. He started the meeting off by questioning if we should be alone in the room together. :) That was the first time I'd met a Campbell who knew some of the history. I definitely want to learn more.

As an American, the landscape in the Highlands looks so foreign with the forests gone now for centuries. I live in central Vermont and have similar topography, but everything here is covered in forest. In fact it is a protected national forest. So seeing your Highlands has a very different feel. Beautiful but stark.

Fantastic vid Shawn! I have been to Glencoe with a Scottish tour bus, mostly Americans. We stopped at the McDonald center gift shop. I want to come back, and see more of Glencoe. I use to go to many of our Scottish games, and competed in Pibroch on my Henderson pipes. The tunes and words of the Massacre oF Glencoe always make me cry. I was at a Highland Games in US where there was a stigma against the Campbell Clan tent. They ended up leaving. A few other of our games there were no Campbell Clan represented. Of course, the McDonalds are proudly at the games! Thanks for sharing this video.

The thing about the Highlands that is so hard to get across is that no matter the amazing photos or drone shots, none of them do it justice. You have to experience it in person to really get it.

My heart craves my Bonnie Scotland, and although my wife is the daughter of a Scot's born father; the cold weather does not do much for her yet; ONE DEGREE above Freezing is a HEAT Wave for me. Unfortunately; my advanced years and broken bones prevents me from travelling anymore. During my first visited to Scotland back in 1984, the group I was with went to the Highlands for an overnight camping trip on a small inlet. I was astounded by the landscape. I saw a tree growing out of a big rock. I live in a forest, so seeing that landscape seems more magical to me. I love it. Can't wait to visit again. Just found out I'm the 7th great grandchild of the chief of the Glencoe clan, I was here two years ago and felt a beautiful energy before I knew this. Like a peaceful presence in the air. Thank you for your brilliant series🙏. Please can you go to Loch Lomond next😁

I have always loved the Scottish Highlands and would love to hear you do a Vlog on the Glencoe Massacre. This video has done my spirits good and I personally enjoy every road trip I have seen you do. You would be favorite UA-camr. I wish I could find the right words to describe my feelings for Scotland. I want to visit the Highlands to pay respect to where my great, great Grandmother was from. That would be Inverness. Her family name was Mcleary.

In 2010 my best friend and I did an 18 city in 20 days tour of England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland. Scotland was definitely my favorite and I can't wait to go back.... I'm hoping in 2020 for the 10 year travelversary of when we were there last!
I fell asleep on the tour bus, then got shaken awake by my friend when we got there cause it was SO beautiful!

Great video Shaun! As a suggestion for exciting Scottish destinations would you consider adventuring everything in the Shetland Island’s? I have been a lifelong fan of Collies and Shelties both of which have their roots in Scotland. But, the shelties in particular are a bantamized collie that has been bred to endure the harsh and rigorous environment of the Shetland Islands.
Keep up the great videos. Greg from Florida

Wondering when you were in Glencoe, because on May 1 I hiked up Buachaille Etive More, my queen and favourite munro in Scotland. It was magic!

Took my daughter up there after lockdown from Manchester. Had to turn off the radio to soak up how stunning an experience it was driving through Glencoe and feeling the cool mist when we got out and had a look.

Thanks for the lovely adventure video. It pleases me to see the deer so accustomed to humans.
I learned yesterday that a performance group from Milpitas High School (my town) will be performing in the Fringe Festival. So a little direct connection from my town to yours. Cheers.

I'm from the US. My connection to Scotland goes back to the Battle of Dunbar. According to the story, one of my ancestors (John Rankin) , was captured by Cromwell at the Battle of Dunbar and sent to America for "a period of indentured servitude". He settled in the area of Portland Maine. Love your channel! :)

I had the honor of visiting Glencoe when I was in Scotland last spring. Even on an overcast day with the waterlogged ground swamping my shoes it was magical with light snow falling. The mountains really reminded me of home in Alaska. Thanks for risking your car windscreen for us; we have the same problem with rocks getting kicked up as well. When you rent a car here you can get extra insurance specifically for it that I recommend getting. Would be interesting to find out if the same can be done in Scotland.

It is a treat to see the land of my father. He did live on the north side of Loch Lochy. You are not too far away .
My father told me of the highlands as a boy, a long time ago when grandfather owned the forest.
