Welcome to my brand new series, Shaun On The Road - Розваги
Related to the Glencoe Massacre: In my college days, a professor of British History recounted a tale told by a former student named Campbell. This fellow once had occasion to meet the Prince of Wales, and introduced himself to HRH. Upon hearing that the man's name was Campbell, Prince Charles told him, "You and I are members of the two most hated families in Scotland".
davohl1 haha that’s a great story
Mine came out of the Keith's clan and from the Sept family Faulkner.
in america campbell is just some dude who makes soup!
Well....HRH was half right.
@@tokiisradical5760 and meat balls!
There is a "something" there that is hard to describe. Scotland is a country where you feel the presence of those who have gone before us, no more so than in Glencoe. It's beautiful, haunting, tragic and powerful.
Lorraine Lowe totally agree 🙌
So true. Scotland has a very distinctive energy, it’s like something magical, hard to describe.
Glencoe is an area which I always believe should be viewed in slightly inclement weather. With mist and a little rain the place can become almost haunting.
Love glencoe thanks for a great video
I'm a McDonald and live in California. My wife and I went to Glencoe 2 years ago. I felt a real connection with the place and instantly fell in love with it. So beautiful!! Thanks for the video
Your ancestors probably came from argyle on the west of Scotland I'm a mcdonald descendant from North of glencoe best wishes from Glasgow
Thank you. I can't wait to watch this. I drove through Glencoe a couple of years ago with an English tour guide who not only didn't know where the site was but had never heard of the Glencoe Massacre. From Australia
Vicki Smith really a shame they didn’t know it’s fascinating history
@Vicki. I bet he was feigning it. A Tour Guide; a Sassanach, and he didn't know anything about Glencoe. In all seriousness Vicki, I have a lot of English friends, and I will swear this on a stack of Bibles; everyone of them asked me if I had been though Glencoe; especially around 3pm or when the sun was setting and the mist was settling over the Glen. I asked why they would ask such a question, and everyone of them (independently) said They felt quite eerie travelling through Glencoe. They said they felt as though a million eyes were boring into them. My response was what do you expect. The Argyles (Campbell of Argyle) murdered The Clan Macdonald of Glencoe, whilst the slept. I had been though Glencoe and never felt that eeriness which I told them about and they asked why was that. I said: Because I am a Highlander, I was one of their own.
That was AMAZING the scenery there is incredible. Thank you for the tour.
Mary Marney thank you Mary 🙌
Just gorgeous Shaun, such an enchanting, awe-inspiring landscape. This was just the mini escape I needed this moment. You've got a real talent for this. Thanks for sharing it.
Sophia Holland thanks so much Sophia so glad you enjoyed it 😊
Just watched this video, absolutely gorgeous scenery, no words to describe, was there on Thursday, makes my heart full of pride , proud to be Scottish and I’m from Perthshire xx
I've been there, took the ferry, was in Glen Etive, hiked in Glencoe just some weeks ago. Loved it again. My favorite place in Scotland shared with the Isle of Harris.
💙
Can't believe I'll be there in a week and a half 😍😍
I love Scottish history.
How was it?
I loved it Shaun. I watched it this morning with my breakfast. Great way to start the day. Then watched it again with lunch. I always look forward to your videos.
LOVE the timelapse, drone footage, and the scenery. Many thanks!
Mairìan glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you so much for showing us the Highlands! SO beautiful! I can't get enough of it. Please promise to visit many...many more times. Views are spectacular! Mom will enjoy your visits also. I watch this twice in a row.
I've always wanted to tour the Highlands, but that dream is a physical impossibility now. Your video has let me experience some of it vicariously. I look forward to more in in future. Thank you, Shaun.
Thank you!!! That was incredible! The scenery as well as the spiritual experience. Thank you for doing this for those of us that can't.
My father who doesn't have Scottish as far as he knows, has always had an absolutely huge fascination with Scottish anything. He identifies with much of the persecution that happened, especially of the Scottish Covenanters. He even wrote a poem about Richard Cameron. Samuel Rutherford's writing are a favorite in our family. My father has Irish ancestry and his Irish Tartan is very similar to the Tartan of the Scottish Clan my mother has in her ancestry.
Love your vids Shaun, remember learning the Glencoe Massacre song at school 💚👏
Wow, just magnificent Shaun! The river, the cottage, flowers and wildlife! Such a beautiful country! Amazing how different the mountains are there. They look like volcanic rock! Thank you so much for taking me on this road trip! So grateful! Beautiful job on the video! Saved this to my favorites!

Loving this series. Thank you.
Byron Servies cheers Byron
Incredible Vlog Shaun, felt a chill up my spine as you were walking around the ruins. You were very lucky that the glass didn’t shatter in on you. Gotta agree that road trips are like throwing the dice. So, I hope that it won’t cost an arm and leg. Thank you for sharing Scotland. Aloha.
I stumbled across your channel a few days ago and I'm already happily obsessed. Your content is fantastic! I live in Australia but I'm heading back over to Scotland for a fourth trip this August 🙂 Keep up the awesome videos.
Ahhh thank you, so happy to hear that. August is a great time to be here, especially Edinburgh for the festival. Hope you have a great trip 😊
Wonderful video! I can't wait to come and see it myself! Thank you Shaun!!❤️
WOW, the house is looking terrific! And the landscaping, the views, GORGEOUS! Please let us know when the house is ready; my husband and I are planning another trip to Scotland; we plan on seeing the western side of Scotland. We've already spent close to a month on the South Eastern side clear up to Peterhead and around the bend. The location of your parents new home sounds ideal! Can't wait to get back to the Highlands! Many thanks, Shaun❣
Great video.
Your parents house is really looking great. The outside looks like some place else now.
Thanks for taking all of us on this video road trip.
OMG! That landscape is BREATH-TAKING! And I'll be there in 3 weeks! Can't wait! Love, Love , Love the countryside. Here there , and everywhere!

Beautiful vlog...I'm saving this. Thank you Shaun.
Spiffyspit s thank you 😊
When I visited Scotland last year in April. The visiting center was closed and it was one of the places I really wanted to visit! Thank you so much
Another one of my favourite places. Myself, husband & my 3 spaniels used to go on road trips regularly in Scotland until my 18 yr old son was in a road traffic accident. I miss seeing those famous mountains & deer and always get the best sleep.
Thank you Shaun for the lovely video x
Fabulous job! Loved the scenery and perspective... just stunning! Also very interesting and informative content! I so want to go to Scotland... for now, I’ll settle for Southern New Jersey... thanks so much for making my day!
Wonderful! Thank you for your efforts for us. Well done!💝☺
Babette Harper thank you Babette

Beautiful! I was in Scotland last year in May...we were there for only 5 days but your videos are showing me how much more there is to see and enjoy! I vow that I will get back to your beautiful country one day 💖😍💖. Thank you Shaun! #lovethescottishhighlands
Me Me really hope you make it back soon 😊
I have never been to Glen Coe but my dad used to tell me about our family history. Once when I was working in the corporate world I had a one-on-one requirements-gathering meeting with someone who turned out to be a Campbell. He started the meeting off by questioning if we should be alone in the room together. :) That was the first time I'd met a Campbell who knew some of the history. I definitely want to learn more.
Amazing video Shaun. Visiting Scotland this April. Hope to visit Glencoe. Thank you for your quality content.
Ooolala! Gorgeous place!Gorgeous filming! And the music is perfect!
You are so close to 100,000! I remember when you were 50,000 mate! KEEP IT UP AND HAVE FUN DOING IT
Sean Riddle cheers Sean, almost there 😊😊😊
Thank you for taking us along and letting me see places I will never get to see. If I had a request, go to places, that aren't the typical tourist locations. I love the country side and the landscapes.
Oh, most types of deer will drop their antlers in the spring every year. He was okay, despite any blood. That is rather rare to see it in process.
Awesome. Thanks for the tour.
Thanks for reminding how beautiful my visits to Scotland were. Hope to come back someday.
I Love Love Loved this video!!!💕 I’m a member of Clan Donald USA, so the section about the Glencoe Massacre was dear to me, but the scenery was so uplifting. Thank you!
Always up for a spooks episode! Great job!
I loved this road trip through part of the Highlands. Thank you!
Thanks man that was fantastic. Love your beautiful country. From Nashville
Kevin Raney cheers Kevin 😊
Shaun this was an incredible and interesting adventure, I love this and all your blogs of the highlands, thanks ❤️🙌🏼🙌🏼
simon barthaburu thank you Simon 😊
I LOVE YOUR SHOWS ABOUT SCOTLAND! AND THE HIGHLANDS, IN PARTICULAR! :DDD I LEARN SO MUCH! AND THE PHOTOS ARE WONDERFUL !!! I WILL BE COMING TO SCOTLAND--IN A FEW YEARS... CAN'T WAIT! :DDD
Beautiful video! Love the drone footage!
Mciain of Donald here, this is crazy to see. Thank you so much for this adventure. I'm in the US so I can't just go and visit. Thank you for all the great vids you make. 🤘
Goodness! Absolutely beautiful! It looks so serene and calm, but at the same time the history is so clearly painted and carved in the mountains! Wow! #Majestic #RichHistory #RichCountryside
Tracie Simpson so glad you like it Tracie 😊
What a beautiful place and your parents place looks so welcoming. Thanks for taking us along.
As an American, the landscape in the Highlands looks so foreign with the forests gone now for centuries. I live in central Vermont and have similar topography, but everything here is covered in forest. In fact it is a protected national forest. So seeing your Highlands has a very different feel. Beautiful but stark.
Hi Shaun, the Highlands are looking so beautiful and water in the river so clear. Flowers blooming everywhere. What a great trip. I just wanted to hike up to the peak of that tall mountain and play my pipes so they heard them in Glasgow! Looking forward to your next trip. Sláinte🍻🏴
I really enjoyed this video Shaun. I’ve been watching several of your videos (though sometimes you don’t list the links in the comments that you mention you will during the videos making it a bit hard to find the ones I want to watch next), but alas I keep watching. The music and camera shots were really great in this episode especially. It made me nostalgic for a place I’ve never been... bravo lad! Keep up the great work! From Texas USA
Fantastic vid Shawn! I have been to Glencoe with a Scottish tour bus, mostly Americans. We stopped at the McDonald center gift shop. I want to come back, and see more of Glencoe. I use to go to many of our Scottish games, and competed in Pibroch on my Henderson pipes. The tunes and words of the Massacre oF Glencoe always make me cry. I was at a Highland Games in US where there was a stigma against the Campbell Clan tent. They ended up leaving. A few other of our games there were no Campbell Clan represented. Of course, the McDonalds are proudly at the games! Thanks for sharing this video.
The thing about the Highlands that is so hard to get across is that no matter the amazing photos or drone shots, none of them do it justice. You have to experience it in person to really get it.
Loved seeing the Highlands! Glencoe is spectacular! Thanks, Shaun.
Thank you Shaun for brightening up this exiled Scot's heart. The last time I was home was back in 1998 and 2001. Prior to that I was exiled in Australia in 1961. My heart craves my Bonnie Scotland, and although my wife is the daughter of a Scot's born father; the cold weather does not do much for her yet; ONE DEGREE above Freezing is a HEAT Wave for me. Unfortunately; my advanced years and broken bones prevents me from travelling anymore. I have always said though that the day I die; my soul will wing it's way to the Highlands and the cost of travel will be FREE. LOL. Keep posting these wonderful videos. slàinte mhòr !
When ya get back to Texas I will give a real tour...that said when I get to Scotland I am looking you up my friend!! :)
Visited there for the first time on Christmas Eve. It was freezing, but magical. Thanks for sharing!
And by “there” I meant Glencoe. 😀
Absolutely stunning!! The views were so crisp and clear it was amazing!!
Sorry about your windshield. The same happened to me here in Florida. Insurance would have covered it if I had comprehensive coverage. Instead we just called around for the best deal on a replacement. Good Luck and can't wait for the next Adventure!!
maryanne eggers even with my comprehensive insurance I had to pay £80 excess. Not a cheap thing to fix :(
Beautiful scenery! I’m going to be in Perth the end of August headed toward Inverness. I was going to go through the Cairngorms, but may instead now go by way of Glencoe & on up along Loch Ness to Inverness. Thanks for scenery shot!
The ruins were amazing! So beautiful there, thank you Shaun...❤️❤️
I can’t wait to go back!! The highlands are among the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Cheers!
breathless, gorgeous! love that you have Outlander books in the cottage! 😎 thank you for this!
Wow, such gorgeous scenery! I've read about the Glencoe Massacre but it was great to hear about it up close through your video. I would love to see you do a Spooks episode there. Interestingly enough I have both MacDonald and Campbell ancestral ties, not quite too sure how that happened, lol. My MacDonald family was from further up north (Moidart/Morar area). Anyway, loved the video. Such a treat!
Thank you so much Shaun for sharing your beautiful Country! My dream trip is to see the Highlands :)
During my first visited to Scotland back in 1984, the group I was with went to the Highlands for an overnight camping trip on a small inlet. I was astounded by the landscape. I saw a tree growing out of a big rock. I live in a forest, so seeing that landscape seems more magical to me. I love it. Can't wait to visit again. On my trip a couple years ago, I mainly stayed around the Edinburgh and Perth area. I took a coach to a different city every day. WHAT A BLAST!
You’re such a positive person. It inspires me to be a bit more positive 😊
applewagon253 thanks so much 😊 so glad to hear that 💜
Went to Glencoe today and couldn’t find this! Really upset that I missed it, thanks for sharing this, there’s always a next time
I loved it!! The highlands are magnificent. Thank you, Shaun. The highlands actually look quite a bit like Northern New Mexico! But your sky is soft, and ours is bright deep blue. I would feel very much at home in the highlands.
Thank you for sharing ! The scenery is spectacular! I definitely think you should do some paranormal research at Glencoe 💖
Peggy Deis , I must concur!!!
Just found out I'm the 7th great grandchild of the chief of the Glencoe clan, I was here two years ago and felt a beautiful energy before I knew this. Like a peaceful presence in the air. Thank you for your brilliant series🙏. Please can you go to Loch Lomond next😁
@Jennifer Howell my ancestors too had a lot to with yours, they were the hereditary pipers and armour bearers of the chief
So jealous, your country is just Magical, the landscape, castle ruins, stories and just everything! If you have full coverage insurance, wouldn't your comprehensive cover the damage? Or is insurance different there? Thank you again for all you do for your subscribers, we appreciate all the time you spend traveling, videoing, editing and such. We appreciate you!!! Stay safe and be well my Scottish you tube friend. 💜💙💚✌✌✌🦩🦩🦩
I have always loved the Scottish Highlands and would love to hear you do a Vlog on the Glencoe Massacre. This video has done my spirits good and I personally enjoy every road trip I have seen you do. You would be favorite UA-camr. I wish I could find the right words to describe my feelings for Scotland. I want to visit the Highlands to pay respect to where my great, great Grandmother was from. That would be Inverness. Her family name was Mcleary.
Beautiful views. Wonderful country. Thank you.
Beautiful scenery. Thank you.
In 2010 my best friend and I did an 18 city in 20 days tour of England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland. Scotland was definitely my favorite and I can't wait to go back.... I'm hoping in 2020 for the 10 year travelversary of when we were there last!
I fell asleep on the tour bus, then got shaken awake by my friend when we got there cause it was SO beautiful!
itzjustk8 só glad to hear it and I hope you come back 😊
Great video Shaun! As a suggestion for exciting Scottish destinations would you consider adventuring everything in the Shetland Island’s? I have been a lifelong fan of Collies and Shelties both of which have their roots in Scotland. But, the shelties in particular are a bantamized collie that has been bred to endure the harsh and rigorous environment of the Shetland Islands.
Keep up the great videos. Greg from Florida
Wondering when you were in Glencoe, because on May 1 I hiked up Buachaille Etive More, my queen and favourite munro in Scotland. It was magic!
One of the best family vacations we took as a family while living in Denmark. Loved the Highlands and Glencoe.
Took my daughter up there after lockdown from Manchester. Had to turn off the radio to soak up how stunning an experience it was driving through Glencoe and feeling the cool mist when we got out and had a look.
Thanks for the lovely adventure video. It pleases me to see the deer so accustomed to humans.
I learned yesterday that a performance group from Milpitas High School (my town) will be performing in the Fringe Festival. So a little direct connection from my town to yours. Cheers.
Jay Littleton yea in that particular spot people feed them - but usually they stay well away
I'm from the US. My connection to Scotland goes back to the Battle of Dunbar. According to the story, one of my ancestors (John Rankin) , was captured by Cromwell at the Battle of Dunbar and sent to America for "a period of indentured servitude". He settled in the area of Portland Maine. Love your channel! :)
Oh, BTW, I just bought a DJI Spark. That's how I ended up here. ;)
Wow. Glen Etive is stunning, my fave place in Scotland too!
loved the vlog
I had the honor of visiting Glencoe when I was in Scotland last spring. Even on an overcast day with the waterlogged ground swamping my shoes it was magical with light snow falling. The mountains really reminded me of home in Alaska. Thanks for risking your car windscreen for us; we have the same problem with rocks getting kicked up as well. When you rent a car here you can get extra insurance specifically for it that I recommend getting. Would be interesting to find out if the same can be done in Scotland.
Scotland is definitely good for your soul. I love Glencoe
No long found your channel.. love Glencoe, we used to holiday up there at a caravan park when I was young.. fantastic memories plus my dad always said it was haunted and you could here screaming and fighting at night lol
It is a treat to see the land of my father. He did live on the north side of Loch Lochy. You are not too far away .
My father told me of the highlands as a boy, a long time ago when grandfather owned the forest.
dielauwen that’s awesome, such a great part of the world
You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful land!!
Beautiful can't wait to see it for myself in June
Scotish history is so tearful. It is so sad. The genocide. The injustice. Tearful.
Glen Coe is one of the coldest most atmospheric places I have ever been through even in the summer
