Sir I felt the same for many years until the great Eric Weissberg said to me (a long story from his South African tour with Art Garfunkel in 2001) the playing and mastering of an instrument is an introspective journey. One must play for oneself as much as another. If it isn't enjoyable for oneself then something elemental is wrong. For me it was timing. Eric taught us in a few hours the power of a metronome and it changes my life. It could be something as simple as note spacing, timing or phrasing. Without the basics it sounds off. Start there and even the great Trey Hensley is achievable, correct Trey? I'm still working hard at the basics by the way, and still enjoying the results
I remember the morning Marty Robbins died…My old man was up at like 4:30 am (which he never was) when I would usually roll outta the house for morning swim practice…He was a real sob but this particular morning was soft and his voice was shaking. He tells me Marty Robbins died…I skipped practice (I was 10) and he made us breakfast and I stayed home all morning listening to his records with the old man. Dude…You made me wanna reconnect with this music years later. Beautiful stuff Trey….Bravo!!!
Our Father in Heaven has no mother: "The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger."
I came here to learn how to play this song for my dear great uncle…. Boy did I fukk up… Im still going to learn it, but I will also be showing him this video. Absolutely incredible.
It's crazy I'm basically an expert on Real Country (self proclaimed ofcourse) and a video popped up after a song someone sent me. Marty introducing a kid at the opry.i knew there was bigger things to come.now I cant stop listening! And what's crazy is like our music taste is exact. I consider everything I've heard as one of my favorites.
I "discovered" Trey the other day from his grand ole Opry debut.... I prayed he had continued on with his career ... I was so happy when I saw more videos... SOOO talented❤❤❤❤
Hello 👋 April. How are you doing? Hope you're fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Man i found you this morning and as a player of 30 years you have blown my damn mind!! Keep on my brother you are one fucking special talent sir.. Respect❤️❤️
Trey. I listen to you all the time you are the best I'm eighty. Three years old. I love all your songs I think I learned to love you.i think you are kin to me my maiden name is hensley I have a grandson identical to you and also picks the guitar but I also love Gospel music I am a Christian and I would love to hear you mix it in with your music please keep singing you are the best. Love you Margaret cunningham.
Great picking and singing, Trey. The memories flooded back of when I used to sing harmony on this tune with my good friend. Some classic tunes like this are timeless. Great job!
Trey let me tell you, I dove head first into the bluegrass genre over a year ago now, and have been picking a guitar for just over a decade, and I truly think you are a once in a lifetime talent. Much love from Pittsburgh, I'll keep spreading your name as long as you and Rob play a show here sometime!
@@chadk2525 I’m also about an hour South weird enough! Starlite Lounge I’ve heard has bluegrass jams but that’s about it near here. If you’re ever looking for someone to jam with though reach out!
My Newest Favorite! Always said "I never had to watch Movies Because Marty Robbins painted the Picture for me!" AND... Marty Stuart, Kris, Johnny, Merle, Tom T... On and on Young Man!
Hello 👋 Deedee. How are you doing? Hope you're fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
i play mostly a Sg & a 100w super lead but i still pic up my ovation and jam at the camp fire with tunes that tell a story thanks marty & jonny i still style after my guitar hero bob wooten RIP bob
It's just amazing, Trey. I gotta tell ya, I love watching you play. It both inspires me and pisses me off. Keep pickin' my brother, you're one of the best baby.
Thanks Trey. I have an old Harmony Sovereign too. My uncle played it until he died in 1963 after he got home from Korea. Still a pretty good old box. You play so very well, and sing so well too, it looks easy. That is what a professional is. You are that. God bless you.
That exact model was my third ever guitar and my first American built one. Probably about 1968. It cost me £64, less £32 trade in.. Potter's Music in Richmond! I kinda miss it.
If I walked into a bar and seen you playing this on a smoke filled stage id walk up high five you and a big bird to the ones in the crowd that dont even know this song! This is awesome. Rip marty!
Was literally impressed by just the perfect strumming in the beginning and then he did that flourish and I was like 😳 and then my eyes just kept widening more and more as the video progressed. Coolest thing I’ve ever seen? Probably
Great job! I had a friend that passed away last year. He always played this when we were growing up. He was a great picker too. Good story in that song.
As a guitar player that is relatively well studied and seasoned, I can honestly say this style of playing at this skill level is the number one thing that I wish I could do and can't figure out. Your picking hand is among the most precise and controlled I have ever seen.
If you was alive 100 years ago you would've been the thing of legends with those fast hands. Can't wait to shred my fingers trying to learn this without a pick
this video inspired me to get a guitar and now ive been playing for two years
That is too cool!!
That's some dedication! Out of curiosity, have you been able to play this song yet?
This is single handedly on of the best covers of any song I’ve ever heard. And it’s just one singer with a guitar……stunning dude. Stunning.
100%
I am wholly in awe. I found this and my plans for the night are kaput because they've changed to: "Listen to this until you fall asleep."
Magnificent

Truly talented in so many musical ways. He’s blessed for sure.thank you
Are we not gonna talk about how good that opening was
Quietly carries my guitar to the trash bin. maybe i'll learn the dulcimer, no one can hear them anyway - great job as usual Trey :)
That trash bin have room for another guitar? I'm going to stick with playing the radio.
😂 I’m with ya.
Fantastic Trey!
What a great comment lol

Every time I listen to this, I imagine that little motif at 1:02 as symbolizing Texas Red. Too cool
Holy mother of God! I wasn’t expecting to be blown away like that. What a legend! Why is he not at the top of the charts?
Our Father in Heaven has no mother: "The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger."
This is amazing. Now i Want My NCR suit!
Holy shtt that guitar solo was incredible.
I can hear ol Reed sayin “PICK IT, SON”! Great job brother!
Me at 0:00 : Yeah, I think I can do this..
Me at 1:23 : * makes room in the trash above for my guitar *
I don't know which is better, his playing or his singing...both sensational !

This young mans talent is a 100% blessing from God almighty. Maybe Tray, Billy, and several others can save traditional country music. Hope so.
3:43 the bass for that phrase dude amazing
Dude please make a lesson on the solos! Those were absolutely incredible and I’d love to be able to play that even 1/10th as well as you

Marty was my mom's favorite artist. I grew up listening to all his albums. Nice job on this song..
Goddamn son! You are the musician the country stations need to be playing!
I was looking for some nice little cover but holy shit I wasn’t ready for THIS
This is the most underrated cover I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
Awesome Brother!!!! Great song! Great rendition! Don’t know what else to say, but I’m sure Marty would be smiling to hear that!
74 year old bluegrass pickr’ here, I won’t throw my guitar in the trash, but after playing five decades, I wish I could pick like that, amazing!
The swiftness of the ranger is really still talked about today.
This is one of the best versions I've heard!

I love how precise your vocal pitch is, it’s so nice to hear. Especially doing this with no auto tune makes it even more pleasant
Jesus christ I did NOT expect this to slap so hard. Absolutely outstanding cover. 10/10
You make that 55 year old guitar sound great.
Those honky tonk levels shouldn't even be possible. Incredible playing
Trey, you are hands down one of my favorite pickers! Love it!
Been looking for a old Harmony sovereign for years. Always remember my grandpa playing one exactly like this one. Amazing playing as always.

I love the old Marty Robbins westerns. Never heard a recent modern day version of Big Iron, but I love it.
