    Consider making a doublebag for winter. They used to be more common but still work if one bag is slightly larger than the other. I have slept in 30 below F in the Adirondacks quite comfortably with a lightweight summer bag inside a cold weather (not winter per se) bag. You avoid an expensive dedicated winter bag if you do not need one. Cheers.

      @BrooksandBirches  2 роки тому

      Yeah I got one but me being me I got a cheap one and its not very good at all, it doesn't even have a zipper and you have to climb in from the top... to say it's more hassle than it's worth is an understatement, maybe I'll get a better one but at this stage a nice warm sleeping bag that's a couple lbs lighter than the one I have sounds more inviting lol

  • @chrisjames3087
    @chrisjames3087 2 роки тому +1

    There's nothing worse than a weak sleeping bag. I was on a fishing trip last Winter and was unexpectedly caught out overnight in sub-freezing weather. all I had in my truck was an old Coleman. I May have had 15 minutes of sleep that night. A good fire was all that saved me. Your sleeping bag would probably feel warm compared to that.

    • @BrooksandBirches
      @BrooksandBirches  2 роки тому

      Totally agree mate! This is an extract from Robinson Jeffers’
    The Tower Beyond Tragedy:
    I entered the life of the brown forest
    And the great life of the ancient peaks,
    The patience of stone,
    I felt the changes in the veins
    In the throat of the mountain, and I was the streams
    Draining the mountain woods;
    and I the stag drinking,
    and I was the stars boiling with light,
    wandering alone, each one the lord of his own summit,
    and I was the darkness
    outside the stars I included them.
    They were part of me …
    How can I express the excellence I have found
    That has no color but clearness;
    No honey but ecstasy.

    7:03 This is Sparta? Hope you and yours are well, Rob! I see you've purchased a Kuiu pack since the last video I watched. What are your impressions of it? I've read they're a bit uncomfortable under heavy loads. I went with a Stone Glacier 5900 back in 2017 when I bought a backpack hunting pack. Highly recommend.

    • @BrooksandBirches
      @BrooksandBirches  2 роки тому

      Yeah I've had it since I went on the bear hunt in the spring and I mean I like it but I don't have much to compare it too, but between me and my hunting buddy I have the Kuiu and he has an Eberlestock and he just bought a Kifaru so I'm going to try and get a Stone Glacier 5900 at some point for us to do a comparison

    Quick question: Was that the Boreal 21" you are using to saw? I am considering the 21 or the 24, the 24 though I think might be a tad too big? How would you rate your saw for larger logs to cut?

    • @BrooksandBirches
      @BrooksandBirches  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers mate! I have the Boreal 21 and its decent for most things, you don't need it too big unless you're planning on chopping really big stuff but then I would just get a Silky Big Boy as well

    You might consider getting a Helicobacter Pylori blood test IF you're often get Acid Reflux. It's no fun, I had it all of my youth and through the Army until they discovered this bacteria. Even so, worth the effort to get it checked out.
