6:53 They say if the Titanic hit the iceberg head on it would have been able to stay afloat, but they tried to avoid it and ended up ripping open the entire side of the ship
funnily enough what he said about the head on collision is perfectly true despite what stupid chat says lol. Literally the same thing has happened with titanic. They tried to avoid the iceberg and tore the side of the ship flooding too many compartments. Both ships would have had a much greater chance of survival had they hit head on instead of the sides
Don't know how accurate this is but still, if the helmsman hadn't turned the wrong way first the decision would've been correct, apparently. So surprisingly both would've worked...
Three years too late, but I’d add that there may be another reason this course of action would have been particularly good for the Costa Concordia. Both ships were unlucky in the sense that the compartments which were flooded happened to include the engines. In the Concordia’s case though they were very near the shore, (unlike the Titanic which was some 400 miles away from land) so if they had lost compartments near the front, not the engines, they could have tried to make it to the docs before sinking or at least maneuvered the ship closer to shore.
Ik this video is 5 months ago but watching this now. Atrioc was so right hitting head on 6:50 one of the main reasons the titanic sank was that it tried to avoid the ice berg by turning but the iceberg cut the side of the ship leading it to sink. If they would have hit straight on the boat wouldn’t have went down at all or at the very least go down slower then it did.
Or you know heed the warnings from numerous other ships but instead told them (not joking) to shut the fuck up because the telegram operators where to busy sending messages from the rich peoples to other rich people in the US.
Yes and no, hitting it head on would have been a better outcome than the one that happened, but an even better outcome would have been avoiding the collision altogether, which they were very close to doing, also just straight up ramming a rock you have a decent chance of avoiding sounds like a great way to be sued for up to half a billion dollars by multi-billionaires

Hitting the rocks with the bow would actually be the best way. There is a collision bulkhead separating the bow from the rest of the hull, which is stronger than normal bulkheads.
Scraping frontal would definitely have been better than what accually happened, but remember, what happened happened only because of poor communication, they were trying to dodge the rocks entirely!
Damn it’s really harder to get into ur local community college than retain a job as captain of a cruise ship.... and the punishment for cheating at said community college is more strict than killing people on board lol

People were laughing at at riot for saying you would want to collide head on. But that is actually what is thought that the titanic tried to do but didn’t quite make it. And they think that would have saved the ship since only one compartment would have flooded.
This was my first Atrioc video and we’ve come along way from here. I thought this vid in my recommended was gonna be some like meh reaction but Atrioc was unironically funny watching his reactions
7:10 i know this is two years late but yes actually if you head on it you contain the damage to one or two water tight doors and the ship probably wouldn't've sank
You called the guy waiting outside the prison a speedrunner, does this mean that people getting parole should be added to a leaderboard since they speedrun their sentence faster?
Chat was totally wrong, hitting the rocks head on would have saved it. The reason they didn't is that unlike the swing manouvre, it's not sanctioned and is considered intentionally damaging the ship, so if he had struck them head on, the ship would have survived but his career and possibly the career of the entire rest of the bridge crew would have been over so they didn't even consider it
Thing is... You're not wrong in hitting bow rather than stern, in that situation you want to minimise contact and damage so going head in or trying to slam the ship against the rocks and hoping to bounce off are actually better options to a scrape... It's not garrenteed, but it's just generally better odds... Course at that point you want to be calling muster stations immediately as you are committing to a crash for the purpose of preserving the ship longer to successfully evacuate.

15:20 Some more information regarding Carnival Corp/Costa Crociere. It’s been speculated that the reason they got off so lightly is because the government was worried this might affect the tourism industry more widely, so they put pressure on the judiciary. In fact, I’d wager that’s why they went for the strategy they did for the trial, i.e making Schettino the fall guy. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of blame on his hands, but the fact that he was the only one to face any actual jail-time is a travesty. He got 16 years, while the rest of the crew got off with a suspended sentences/community service and no one at Carnival Corp/Costa Crociere got anything.
