yeah quite amazing the difference. Whilst the hex may not quite match full size 2 element yagi on the gain (within half a db or so), the front/back ratio is very impressive. This one is the portable version made by MW0JZE (Ant), second hand to me as a friend upgraded to the heavy duty.
@@mw0lge I'm currently on a MFJ Cobweb, so even the modest forward gain will be welcome. As you say though, it's the F/B that's useful when you've got the rest of the EU breathing down your neck.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on SunSDR2 Pro vs. your Anan. I'm a little frustrated with the pace of development on ExpertSDR2 and drawn by the open-source nature of the Anan world.
Hi Robin, for this very reason my sundsr2 is only on VHF at the moment. I fancied having a tinker with the open source so have done a bit of work on it over space of about 5 months or so. I have not found the time or desire really over the last 2 months or so to do much, but it is still slow work in progress. Currently working on the display of multiple meters. They are two different beasts, I would not part with either. Richie.
@@mw0lge I'm very jealous of the amazing NR on the Anan. From your samples it sounds so natural compared to the 'space tunnel' affect on my SunSDR. Much to think about...
Thanks for the comparison Richie. I was thinking of moving to a hexbeam in the next few months, and this has helped to make my mind up.

Wow what a difference! I'm thinking of a mini beam. I have the space but not the neighbour relationship!
Nice comparison video. I will build my own hexbeam next week.
