- A step-by-step video on how to reduce background noise in Microsoft Teams meetings with Noise Suppression. Noise Suppression in Microsoft Teams meetings has now rolled out and can help cut out or reduce background sounds coming through on your end of the meeting. Whether it is a vacuum cleaner or a barking dog, Microsoft Teams Noise Suppression is great for remote working and school. Noise Suppression in Teams is currently only available in windows Desktop.
In the near future, the Microsoft Teams Noise Suppression setting will also be available in the "..." | Device Settings area of the Meeting window as well, so you can change the Noise Suppression setting and remove background noise with Microsoft Teams in real-time.

🔇 Auto: Teams monitors the degree of audible background noise in a meeting and tunes suppression up or down to removes non-voice sounds like barking dogs or the rustling of papers. It can take a few seconds for it to kick in for loud noise
🔇 Low: Persistent background noise is suppressed, such as a computer or ceiling fan or air conditioner. Teams suggests that you use this setting when music is playing in the background.
🔇 High: Suppresses all background noise that Teams considers not to be speech.
🔇 Off: Noise suppression is disabled. Maybe you’re lucky enough to conduct meetings in low noise environments and can use this option.

Hell yes! Tell your friend that hearing bodily functions via Teams are a thing of the past if you set to Noise Suppression to HIGH

BUT to make sure that all this is clear:
Noise suppression should be activated on the source of the noise not the destination?
Windows only ?
Is there a way to enforce noise suppression throughout the tenant or for a specific meeting? - students and teacher will not activate/change the settings themselves ...
What is the difference between the other two levels that are not shown in the demo:
- What does "automatic" do? how aggressive it is? will it block keyboard noises, paper sound etc.?
- How "Low" differs from automatic for the same noise tests?
For all of the above, how much more CPU power it will eat up? Especially in high setting?
1) Yes, activated on the source of the noise
2) Not IT Admin settings yet. Also, it depends on processor strength, so not all PCs support it
3) Current PC, coming to more platforms soon.
4) I can't predict exactly how it will work on other settings. Depends on your mic and other variables. But I have talked to folks that say "auto" can take 5-15 seconds to kick in for loud noises

Tested it --- this might work with most dogs, but there seems to be a Coonhound exception. She was loud and clear, with noise suppression set on high.

Must be automatically on in my settings as there was insanely loud drilling in the apt above and nobody on the call heard anything! Noise Drove me crazy but it’s crazy it worked so well

Yes, but they must enable on their end

Wonder why teams don't have high supression by default
Does this also work when using Jabra Speaker? Others can still hear when my dog barks in the background.
Hi, thks, do you know when is going to be available in latin america? i´ve already update Teams and it does not apper there.
Are you on Desktop Teams? Should be rolling broadly right now, although unfortunately I can't fully predict when it hits different data centers
They made it available in December, the following update took it away, so there must be an issue. Would be be nice if they just sent a notice, or put (BETA) next to it in device settings.

Yes, on Teams Desktop. This is not on mobile devices yet, but should be coming there in 2021 at some point

What type of device do you have? Also, if you have an older device this might not be supported as you need a newer chip type
Can I get students to remove noise from where they virtually learning? Omg, daycare facilities, home with crying babies, people talking loud etc.. it’s a distraction for other students hearing someone else conversation.

I take it the way this works is for the person with the noise in the room to be smart enough to turn on this feature, not the people on the other end of the call, right?

Hi, I got this option available in my Teams start Dec 2, I used it for 1 week, but the noise suppression option disappear in my computer start from Dec 14. do you know how to get the feature back into my Microsoft Team ? I use Windows 10, team version 1.3
Hmm, that’s weird. Sometimes they run experiments and then pull it back. Give it another day or two to see if it comes back
Could this also be a function that corporate admins can turn on/off for all staff?
Just checked my Teams settings and there is no option for Noise suppression. Under devices I only have speaker and microphone. Mic only gives Macbook Pro mic or Zoom audio device. No Auto, or otherwise.
what about other people's voices?
Now Teams has “Voice isolation” that focuses only on your voice. Just rolling out now
What about bird sounds or busy street sounds?
That should get filtered out when using "HIgh"

I have recorded an MP3 of me talking . It was recorded with me wearing a lav. The lav was rubbing against my shirt now and then and caused some cloth rustling sound.
Can this method that you showed, work with pre-recorded audio ? If not then, what software or app can we use to remove the cloth rustling sound ?
I can't find this option on my teams.
Did you click on your own name or icon? Then scroll down to Settings, and then choose Devices. The noise suppression settings are under Devices.

Also let us hear if your voice is still intelligible WITH noise, no need to stop talking (we know it can filter out just the noise).
