  • In this video I demonstrate how I positioned a large ladder in a manner that allows me to step off of the ladder onto the roof safely. The ladder position allows me to access the screws on the rear of the shroud and I climb on the roof to remove screws on the top. I could have done it in less trips up and down the ladder but wanted to demonstrate how easy it was to get on and off the roof. I am pleased with this discovery of ladder placement. It takes some of the anxiety out of getting on and off the roof.

how did you mount the external Antenna?

That was an ordeal. I was bound and determined to use a piece of 80/20 to construct a small roof rack using VanTech hardware to mount to (Vantech M/J Series Mounting Base). Unfortunately, the back edge of the pop top interferes with the forward roof rack mount. I had to heavily modify a Vantech H45-H46 adapter to accommodate the edge of the pop top. I do plan on creating a video for it soon and provide some lessons learned. Things I like, things I would do differently.

Can I ask why you're installing a soft start? I did on my previous unit but it was so I could run AC with a 2kw Honda genset.

The same features of the soft start that make it possible for you to run your AC off your lower wattage generator are beneficial for generators that (just) manage. It provides more operating margin decreasing the likelihood of tripping breakers during AC startup when other loads are present on the system. They also reduce wear and tear and prolong the life of the system. It all sounds good to me.

@@603BVan I agree with you! Thanks for your input. I'll be installing one on my van. I work in the municipal wastewater business so I know the benefits. I guess I never looked at amp draw of the AC.
