"Essential"... I'm so confused. Don't you have like, 5 videos mentioning how you *shouldn't* bother getting an exhaust slip on or otherwise when you're a beginner?
I personally like the Coffman shorty exhaust for this bike. Lightweight, sounds good, can color match the tip, and it inexpensive 👍 it’s also muuuch louder than this slip on, good pops and crackles
I can vouch for a aftermarket slip on! I myself have a 2020 CBR500R as my first bike and the only two mods I have done and will ever do is get a Yoshimura slip on exhaust and a bigger Puig Smoked windscreen. Gotta love the 470ccs of Fury 😂.
Near the end of the video, when he was complaining about wanting more torque, he FAILED to state what the RPMs were, If he could have down shifted to second, it would be an imediate 25% increase in wheel torque, as peak torque of the engine is at 7000 RPMs, he might gain even more if the engine speed was below 5000.
I'll agree that the stock muffler is too big and doesn't look near as good , ... but it sounded a lot better from where I sit. Seeing a mod like this reminds me of when I was 16 and had a Thrush muffler put on my '61 Rambler Classic (6 cylinder) and thinking how cool it sounded. Thinking back, .. the guy in the Hemi Road Runner parked beside me at the A&W drive in probably shook his head and chuckled. :) If you buy the little Honda as a starter bike, but you want something that sounds better, .. just use it to learn on and make sure your next bike is a 3, 4 or 6 cylinder. Those sound great just the way they come. ;)
It is a great entry sport tourer. I wouldn't compare it to a ninja 400. It's an excellent commuter. The CBR500R, CB500F, and CB500X are all built to meet Euro [and other countries] power limits for beginners. It's built for beginners and it has the size that many beginners who weigh over 200lbs will prefer on a bike. I wouldn't be crazy about riding a 293cc or 399cc bike on a hwy. 471cc gets you just enough to be safe but not running into the 100's. A CBR500R will break 110mph.
Just cut the cat n weld a piece o pipe in its place. Pops n crackles quite nicely. Threw her on a dyno n didn't even bother getting a tune as it was running pre good AFR on stock map.
It's really not that loud. The stock does sound like a sewing machine and the Leo is just a lil deeper. The real advantage is the lighter weight and smaller profile.
Perfect noise level is a bit louder than stock. If you boy a really loud muffler ( or a stubby muffler) you will find out why straight away. Loud muffler provides you with a nice sound, but every time you give it some beans, every traffic cop within two miles will know about it. Which can get expensive.
Changes the sound and loses 5lbs. Put a KnG air filter on it and it will really open up. If that's you're type of thing. It's a wonderful bike. It's a 2 wheeled Honda Accord.
Please also put the measurements in metric as well, would help people that only know metric like me, so, those would not have to make the math to convert it to units that they can understand. For example, 9 pounds to me means nothing, but the equivalent in kilos or grams (4.082KG and 4082g, respectively, imperial is so stupid in many ways btw), with that i can already have an ideia of a quantity. I am sure that it could help a lot of other viewers. Otherwise, keep up with the great work, seriously, your videos are awesome.
I’m an experienced rider (30 + years), and I love this bike. There are days where I want slow and easy on the edge of Lake Superior and the woods. I’m not adding a slip on for 5 pounds. I can just lose 5 pounds and achieve the same thing. CB500X is a great bike.
Give me a shorty exhaust from Austin Racing and some drop bars for that thing and I'm good to go! Upgrade to dual disc/caliper front brakes too please!

You don't "have" to flash the ECU no matter if it's a full system or the slip-on. Every modern bike's ECU will adjust itself for the new airflow and will inject the fuel accordingly so it won't harm a bike in any shape or form as it used to on the older 90s bikes. What bike do you have? The current Honda 500 range have an airbox restriction which is fairly easy to fix. You'd want to do that if you were going to go for a full exhaust system. Then it would probably be a good idea to get it tuned.

If you are a new rider the best thing to upgrade is yourself. Learn, practice, repeat. Your bike is made to work well already.
