Still one of the best videos on youtube. So well done. I often come back to it.
I was going to post the exact same thing. I can't believe that it's been 7 years, holy shit.
I still do too
I have to say this film was instrumental in me getting a 991.1 C4S and I couldn't be happier. I LOVE this film and it's always a pleasure to watch it again and again. The grin doing donuts at the end is priceless!
Still happy? I’m thinking of chopping my 996 turbo for one. V similar numbers
Abso...fn...lutely. My girl got a 992 Cab this year and its fun. Big torque hit down low and its definitely fast but I feel a little turbo lag which I personally don't care for. I'm clearly biased but I like revving the 991 out and it never fails to make me smile particularly with the sport exhaust. This car is plenty fast but if you like the turbo hit I don't know what to tell you. Two very different experiences. Definitely go test drive one and see what you like. For me, naturally aspirated all day but to each his own. Enjoy my friend!
@@hugohugo2832I find myself in the same position - I love the mechanical race car feel of the 996 turbo and that hit of torque on boost is amazing - not sure if a 991.1 4s would feel a bit ‘weak’ compared to the 996 turbo. The 991.1 I think is one of the best looking 911s - I think the 4s 991 is a better looking car than the 991 turbo which seems a bit over-blown to me at least
This is my dream car no matter how much money I've got!
I have to say, that blue looks amazing!
What blue is It? Lapis?
@@41sdspizzas Aqua Blue. This replaced Cobalt Blue. Aqua then got replaced by Sapphire Blue.
Best video for 911 4S!!! I watch it every day 'cause it gives me the grips I'm gonna be getting when I will be driving my own which I'm waiting to be delivered!! Thank you Henry!!
There is No Substitute.
This guys voice is way too soft during the voice overs but when he's in the car and he's talking he sounds fine. I feel like it's edited not for sure or anything but if it is I'll say it's not worth the effort the softness is annoying.
kmkcorner I am sure your customers at KFC say the same about you when you have to read their order back...Idiot
what an amazing video!!!!
Yes, agree totally! Very cinematic conception of the review: amazing camera angles, beautiful time-lapse fotos of weather, light, etc., dramatic music. Can't say I understand everything that driver says (what kind of accent has he got? Midlands?), but the visuals make up for those 1970's mutton chops!! lmao.....
To think that the 991 is nearly 10 years old...
Lovely car. Porsche still tje best sports cars fantastic ans really easy to drive
I am porsche huge fan but to be honest 991 doesn't look good as 997 :(
why Porsche
yeah futures and great but looking goes up for 997 :)
that colour is gorgeous
Can you speaking clearer and louder a bit :( Thanks!
People asking where the road is... He says where it is in the video :/
Austria, Nockalmstraße
***** Because of his accent it is very hard to understand...
works for trips to the mountains
why are you whispering?
Its called subtlety...
life can be so sweet...(if you ve enough money for little playthings)
Question: was that a stock sport exhaust? My recent purchase of a 2013 C4S did not come with sport exhaust but does have sport 1 and 2. Missing those great crackles and pops and am looking for a sports exhaust, original equipment or after market. Any advise?
Took delivery of my 2013 C4S two weeks ago what a fantastic car. Great video too. Well done. Can’t wait for our first snowfall in south Florida. 😂
great review!
The last 20 sec. Are the bests!!!
Great camera work, very well put together.
Excellent! I have a 997 Carrera 4S and have had discussion with "purists" who take pride in being able to drive C2's in snow. This is one of a very few videos that helps you see and understand that the addition of all wheel drive does not take anything away from the joy of driving a 911.In many ways 4wd only gives you MORE confidence to push it even harder and faster through the corners and wet/snowy conditions. Thank you! this video took me on a journey and I wanna go for a drive now!
The 911 turbo is an excellent, astonishing and accomplished car but it is not "a thorn in Ferrari's side". If you've driven a Porsche 911 turbo (996 and 997 gen) and a Ferrari F430 (the 458 is in a whole other class) back to back you'll know what I mean. There is no doubt the Porsche is faster off the lights and you can use it everyday, but the feeling and awe you get when you hear that V8 sing at 8500rpm and the way it just eats its way from 6000-8500rpm; the Porsche will never come close.
LOL at his smile while he's doing donuts.
And enough of this GTR vs 911 vs R8 rubbish. They are all brilliant and only the very best drivers can get these cars near their limits in a totally controlled manner. It is a total matter of opinion. It's like arguing that cheese cake is better than steak or lobster. It's a matter of opinion. I have loved some very average cars over the years but they, for what ever reason, have just done it for me. Whats wrong with that?
I love this car regardless what ppl think of it.. But does anyone know the song at the end of this video?
It must have been heartbreaking having to give that car back,!!
Just stunning. Great review.

Not entirely sure why this has been flagged as spam? Good suggestion. Add on links/clips to other videos, subscribe, twitter annotations at the end of the video with something saying "You might like..."
Good thing I can't afford one. I'd be very hard pressed to choose between the 2S, 4S and PDK or manual. And then there's the Cayman S.... yeah good thing I have no money.

The only thing this video lacks vs a 'Chris Harris on Cars' feature is some boyish enthusiam and a few degrees of slip. Otherwise it is, IMO, more informative, better shot and soundtracked, and strikes a better balance between a road test and a road trip. 991 is a typically regressive latest gen variant for the proper driver. If I actually had any money I'd take a 996GT3, a previous-gen RS4 and a Megane R26.R for the cost of this gentrified GT car
A McLaren MP12C looks like a mid-engine Vette. At best it looks like some older Ferrari like the 360 Modena. Not original, so not good taste. Aston Martin, Rolls are good. But the 911 is right there with them. It's true to its roots, doesn't pretend to be anything else besides a 911, and the purest engineering. So what if it came from a Beetle? Can you still compare it to a beetle today?
I think the comment he was replying to was dumber. For the most part, though he's bringing up an important critique on the rising prices of sports cars nowadays. Though his phrasing was less than eloquent and some of it was frankly not true, it does bring up the important issue and distinction between European and American/Japanese cars. Why is it that a $54k Camaro can outperform a $150K Porsche or a $500K Pagani? Build quality? Materials? Perhaps, but I'd wager neither are worth that much.
actually id say hes correct. The comment is poorly written yes, but the logic is solid. Take the supra for example, sure, fairly cheap, but to get it to Turbo S speeds costs very little too. And im sorry, but the 4s isnt even that much of an upper class car, mid level business men could afford one on finance. If youre going for status, get a second hand Ferrari, if you're going for speed, get something cheap and add mods, the 911 fits gap in the market that can be filled by the likes of the M5.
I guess you hate ducs then since they are "overpriced" and many bikes are just as fast for half the money. When they build something "desirable" people will pay for it. I have owned 2 previous generation skyline prior to R35 and the new gtr is not "desirable" to me for many reasons and it's not about how fast the car is. "class" and "superior ride" is part of the ownership experience.
The GTR is a car for the 'Blue Collar Working Man'? Really?
Im from Boston, Massachusetts. And I consider myself to be a 'Blue Collar' guy. My family and and friends come from a similar background.
I dont know your background, but must be living in the wrong state, because I dont know too many people who have the $90'000 dollars to spend on buying a new GTR, plus the $70'000 dollars you mentioned to modify it.
I like the Nissan GTR, but dont dress it up as 'Blue Collar' Because it isnt.
They do indeed compare the two, but that's because they offer similar levels of performance and really, what else do you compare either of them to otherwise?
Porsche is in a different market place because it actively targets a different market to the GTR by choosing the more conservative design that they do, and by charging more for it.
I don't know why there's a need to call one better than the other, for some it will be the 911, others the GTR, I doubt drivers of either covet their 'rival'
You'll notice that you said "Nissan engineers develop the GTR to compete with the Turbo" and not "Porsche engineers develop the Turbo to compete with the GTR". I'm not sure that Porsche are too worried about the GTR taking sales away from their cars because they occupy a different market space. So in the same way that a potential Ferrari customer probably wouldn't buy a 911, someone looking at a 911 probably wouldn't buy a GTR.
The sports exhaust in the new 991 is one of the most shit sounding things I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. Horrible shrill noise for the last 500rpm, fake sounding "raw" noises the rest of the time. I immediately pressed the button to turn it back off. Horrible, horrible sounding thing, tuned by a computer program presumably. Drives well? Oh yes, very well. Drives well slowly? No. Boring. Very boring. Might as well get a corolla.
Maybe it's a problem on my end but if not the guy who produced the sound for this really should find another job - we're trying to hear a review here but for some reason Catchpole was almost inaudible unless turning the volume all the way up. The music on this video has meant that I will probably have to go to the emergency room with perforated eardrums.
Good review though and I'm very interested in how drive on the front wheels give better feel, I always thought it made it worse.
dont waste your knowledge and time on such idiots .... show me any company that achevied to establish a shape that is recognized everywhere around the world. New Audis can be mistaken as bimmers, Mercs look like Hyundais but Porsche always will be Porsche. I think thats true good taste and skill by a design department.
na na na dude, I can understand the vw link with the older designs but see one of the contemporary ones in person OMG! They have such a presence especially towards the rear hunch, it looks like muscles! and the car sits so low. Sorry I am rambling a bit but seriously a 911 is a beautiful car in real life.
Rolls Royce costs almost half a million dollars. In my opinion it doesn't even look that nice, and it is not all that fast. The Porsche 911 Carrera base model costs 84000 dollars, looks very nice, and is much quicker than a rolls royce, and the 911 turbo s which is still only 150,000 is a much faster car than the Aston Martin Vantage, which costs more
A previous episode of TopGear would have one believe that the Carrera 2 is actually the better car, due to the lower weight and the driving dynamics of the RR setup.
Also, I could never imagine buying a Porsche and then ordering it with what is still effectively an automatic gearbox. Automatics are for minivans and limousines, not sports cars.
Tell your grandmother you drive a Nissan GT-R, she'll hear that you paid $110K for a Nissan and smack you across the face. Tell her you drive a Porsche, and she'll tell all of the ladies at her garden parties how successful her grandchild has become.
Also, the Nissan is driven by computers, the Porsche is driven by a driver.
A car is so much more than just the performance. This car is for people who want something that feels nice to be in, is comfortable to drive and also will go fast. The GTR is incredibly fast but to say its cabin is nice would be an outright lie plus the ride is..exhausting. Of course a Porsche looks expensive when you completely choose to ignore two thirds of its qualities.
Stop listening to Jeremy Clarkson young man. The 997 generation of Porsches were among the most beautiful cars on the market, especially the later special edition models. I haven't seen enough 991's in the flesh to make a judgement on those, but I'm guessing it looks a hell of a lot better than a beetle.
Excellent, informative review but the effort and editing that has gone into filming/making this video is absolutely extraordinary!!! Definitely the best UA-cam car channel.
Shouting does not equal emotion. Chris Harris - a bit more Ramsey, Henry Catchpole, a bit more Slater, but both equally emotive in their own way.
Do you know why the 911 is looking like the beetle? No? Because the man who designed the verry first beetle (Ferdinand Porsche)becamed the creator of the first 911... He wanted to build his own cars after working with VW .... that's why the 911 looks a bit like the beetle... that's all.
If you buy a Rolls or Aston, you do not know what you're doing. You're just buying what all the average people think is a good car, because you don't know anything about cars. Same thing with Lambo, since all the boys think it's awesome, that's what people with no taste will buy.
Since there is the choice between a RWD version and a 4WD version, I can't really understand why Porsche allocates 95% of the torque to the rear axle in the 4S! I'm sorry, but it's basically a RWD car and you don't really feel confident driving it in the winter actually...
i know a family that could all drive Bugatti's if they wanted to but don't because they prefer and like Lexus. Porsche is as storied and well developed a manufacturer as any so to suggest that it's a poor mans car is ignorant. I say drive what you love not to impress.
I tested the PDK box a while back (Carrera 2S). I remember during the test drive, my left foot was looking for something to do and was fast falling asleep. A sports car is meant to excite you, not bore you half to death. So in my opinion, the PDK box on a car like this is stupid.
Couldn't understand the road, sounded like "knockout-strasse" but found what may be it: the Hochalpenstrasse, in the Grossglockner area. Type in "Grossglockner high alpine road" and you should find the same website I did.
Chime in; I want to know the right road too.
Can someone get this person out of that car and behind a desk? It's extremely frustrating to see a guy like you behind the wheel of a 911 4S (A fantastic car with fantastic power) who is near void of emotion. You may as well be behind the wheel of a ford laser.
Not sure where you are, but here in Canada a Porsche Turbo costs $156,900. So you're about $50,000 off. On the other hand, a GTR starts at $103,980, which is considerably less. But then, if you factor in re-sale values, a Porsche Turbo will fetch considerably higher than a GTR, so it all balances out.
But not only Tirol looks like that, I mean obviously there are some gorgeous regions in Italy, France and even Germany! However for every beautiful region, there is one that is not beautiful whatsoever. In Austria however (and this is only my opinion) there are only few region that are not beautiful!
Do it does not spin...? When you loose traction on all four wheels, it is harder to get it right than with a two wheel drive car.
The "best" thing to do, is to give it more gas, and then try to steer your way out of an accident.
But if you're not that skilled, you got traction control.
Indeed Porsche invented the first Beetle so this similar look is no coincidence. Thats why the modern Beetle kinda looks like a Baby-Porsche. Still the 911 is the a beauty of a car, I'd say its the nicest one ever created, i love every model, even the 996.
@MagicAyrtonforever dont forget the build quality. not a well made car at all. porsche has thehighest percent of cars on the road out of cars made. j.d power and Associates ranked it first or second, sorry I forget for reliability. nuff said
@sherman3211 actually the only car that beats a porsche from 0-60mph is the veyron, and it was by one millisecond. one is one and a half mill the other 160,000. and the turbo s was built for straight line peformance. but you are right gt2s and 3 are for track
Nurburgring track times speak for themselves...just saying.
-Camaro ZL1 ($54k)- 7:41.27
-Audi R8 V10 ($150k)-7:44.00
-Pagani Zonda S ($500k)-7:44.00
-Ferrari 599 GTB ($403k)-7:47.00
-BMW M3 GTS ($155k) -7:48.00
-Aston Martin DBS ($275k)-8:02
But a Nissan GT-R feels like a £15,000 car at best.. with it's terrible engine noise and cathedral size and weight, not to mention the amount of fuel it guzzles down. Porsche is life.. anything before or after is just waiting lol
It's sad how crap this car is, I demoed the first one in the uk for 24 hours and was bitterly disappointed. Not a patch on the 997 Carrera 4 GTS I run. In fact I bought a second in cabriolet form in anticipation of Porsche stopping production.
well, the whole Tirol area looks like that, and "Tirol" is not only Austria...take a look at Anessi in france for exemple, or the Dolomites in Italy..or Luzerne in Switzerland...the whole Tirol is the most beautiful place on earth..
Whats with these EVO reviewers that think we want to see them instead of the porsche? If u have to have a camera while the car is moving, have a cockpit view instead of your mug, we cabn still hear you talk!!!
It will do 0-60 in 3.6/7
Because tests have shown that the Carrera(Manual) does it in 4.4.(Can't remember who did it)
The Carrera S(PDK Cabriolet) did a 3.8s to 60.(Motortrend)
So the 4S should do it in 3.5/6/7
C7 corvette is half the price ($120,000 to $59,000) better looking, sounding, and will surely be faster....and even if the Porsche is faster, is it $60,000 faster? Don't think so... Sorry Porsche, nice try.
Great production, but a better driver should have done the review. Henry is too much of a 'writer' and that's why I would read his review on the car but, a guy like Chris should be in the drivers seat behind the wheel.
Great film Henry, reading the mag is great, but then seeing the video brings it all to life! Now I just need to work out where to find the extra cash needed to upgrade my 996 C4S to one of these! Any ideas anyone?
Lovely video, guys. Glorious scenery, iconic car, and a great commentary & test from Henry! Superb!
@DrProfessorPi new cars will always be faster. eg the camaro beat an old porsche gt2, but lost by a sec against a n/a 6 cyl 911, not even a gt3. the camaro is also on best street legal tires you can buy
Awww.. wish it'd be longer! ♥ Nicer than Top Gear! Keep on, EVO :)
lmao ;)
True. But hey, get a 3-year old one, with warranty in-tact, for far less, yes? I did. :)
Porsche has more mechanical elements than Ferrari. I don't keep track of such things, so I cannot give examples now. Porsche offers manual gear box, which Ferrari doesn't.
Agree.
However I don't think that's a bad thing.
Rather than detracting from the 911 it just adds to the Beetle. The Beetle is a little bit cooler because of that lineage.
Go listen to the sound of the golorius Porsche V10 in Carrera GT and than come back to last sentence of your comment.
By the way, I adore Ferraris ;D
Thank me later.
Is it just me, or is there too much writing on the rear, I know it's a very small, silly complaint but imho it should have "Carrera 4S" on the back... anyway awesome car/vid.
the 911 is amazing and the king of sports car belong to Ferrari :). about the movie i love the drive in the snow
this porsche clearly lacks a mounted 50 mm and rockets shooting from a retractable rooftop to this be the perfect toy. other than that... it hits the spot
That new Porsche AWD system is more sophisticated than GTR35's, and in my country C4S cost about the same as Nissan, so I guess the choice is simple.
Porsche is the best brand in car business. Ferrari is all tech. Porsche is old school, analog driving. If I was rich, 911 would be my choice.
Tried reading some comments to see what people have to say about this amazing Porsche, all i saw was hateful comments. Isn't that disappointing..
yeah a bad one, tiptronic and with over 50.000miles, im in canada and you cant get one at 40.000.. they are about 70-75 for good ones, noob.
The first thing I think if when I hear awd porshe is the early to mid ninety 911 turbo from the original need for speed. What a beautiful car.
This is nice, but I cant wait until the Gallardo crushing, 458 killing, 911 turbo comes out.
So if you buy a Porsche 918 Spyder which costs 900 000 euros, because they couldn't afford a Ferrari or a Lamborghini?
Makes no sense.
Gotta love the GT-R fanboys. The funny thing is: a stock Nissan GT-R here in Portugal costs around 170000 dollars.
Blue collar what?
Put your money where your mouth is and go down to your nearest Nissan dealer and buy one because gtr sales worldwide have been dismal.
If speed is the only thing you want then buy and old dsm and mod that or something else old and fast. The cash isn´t only in the speed.
stop listening to Clarkson and have your own opinions. Porsche looks the way it does because that is an extremely aerodynamic shape.
This 4WD Cisitalia is Type 360, prototype was finished later than 356/001 (1948) even later than hand-built Gmund 356 (1948-1950)!
Why doesn't any journalist test the 911 with the 7 speed manual, instead of the PDK, I'd like to know about what they think of it.
i realy love porsche carrera gt but the rest looks like vw beetle and they keep doint shitty upgrade on the looks and its a beetle
I'm from Austria and even for me this was hard to understand. But it should be "Nockalmstraße" and the museum is located in Gmünd.
In 2021 this car still looks fantastic. As does the filming
