I love the idea of an externally fed ceramic propane/butane burner. Quite expensive buggers, though!

I have a new unfired D22 still in the box. These are amazing. I paid $135 US with free shipping from Germany, around 2002. The two cylinder engines are twice the fun, but I run my D12, and just look at the D22.

Thank you Pascal. The burner I use is from Forest Classics in the UK. It is a BIX burner. Maybe the next one I buy I will get from Thorsten Schur. :D

Hello! I'm Nachosteam in the forum. I think this burner is an excellent idea for large Wilesco engines, do you think it would be worth it for the D18? The day I turned it on for the first time the 3 Witabs tablets I used lasted for 6 minutes and with a 500cc boiler is ridiculous, the D9 carries 150 and with two pills it is great, but the big engines do not perform as they should. .

Hi Nachosteam. Thanks for subscribing. The ceramic burners are great. The only reason i delayed getting one was cost. I have had no regrets since. The only comment of caution I would make is going buy too small a gas tank. The small tracks might be unable to support a bigger engine. I posted a subject on the forum about this. Of course you can run the burner straight from a gas cylinder.

In my opinion, yes. A D18 would be easier and more fun with one.

On the D18, you know what happened, jejejeje. On the gas burner there is an engineer that has been removed from the manufacture of ceramic burners for Mamod, I am taking one of them since they are very similar to yours but I think it gets more baratious (except that they are not for large engines, rather for Wilesco type engines D9, D355d, D40).

In my experience, with preheated water, two esbit fuel tablets yield a 15 minute run with my D12. I believe it is the same boiler size as D22. I like electric or gas heaters for the larger engines. I believe Wilesco is opposed to gas heat, due to their liability factor. Perhaps related to overheating of the sight glass. Hope you are also aware, you can run the engine with compressed air if necessary. The gel material from an alcohol food heater may also be used in the burner, for longer running. In the US it is called Sterno.
