I stopped using dairy, quite literally immediately after seeing Carnage. I made my cocoa that night with water, black coffee the next morning at breakfast. Soy, oats, rice and coconut alternatives are now in my fridge. It sparked my interest and further research into animal agriculture and welfare, climate change and health. I am now a committed vegan. Who wouldn't be?
Err you do realise it's a comedy right? It's not supposed to actually make you vegan! 😆 If you want to be vegan, watch a Gary Yourofsky video! You're funny allowing a comedy to affect you!🤣🤣
I know many people that were impacted by Carnage It’s because Simon approached it in a very unique way, a zoom out of time to a larger scope of human social attitudes. How we see history, is how the future will see us and it’s a very powerful thing! Could have won an Oscar if I’m honest.
obviously the reason behind vegans being "preachy" is impatience, when someone knows of a horrific injustice going on they tend to want it to be solved as quick as possible.
Psycho Flicks Productions Normally, I'd agree with you and say that yes it is wrong for people to expect others to follow their way of life simply because they believe it's right. However, in this situation, there are innocent beings on the line. When your way of life is affecting the lives of others, in this case, innocent animals, I believe that the only moral and logical thing to do is to stand up for them.
My friend sent me a text saying she needs help choosing a non-dairy milk after watching this. Well done , Simon. Does the job without all the telling off.
Hats off to Simon Amstell. I completely agree with his conclusion - it will get awkward for people who continue to eat other animals. Veganism will become the new norm sooner than we think.
Adam Craig I agree, that's like saying it will become a drug-free, smoke-free, war-free, sex slave-free WORLD pretty soon. Gun-free, violence-free, pollutant-free soon. People are moving forward, but the time frame is a bit longer than anticipated.
Listening to Simon speak makes me feel happy. He's so easy-going and seems to understand the futility in life; so just says fuck it and enjoys it! Laughter really is the best medicine folks
I used to hate vegans, I wanted to prove them wrong constantly - but that was me trying to hide my own guilt and ignore it. "I love animals!" I used to say, while eating beef burgers and fillet mignon, drinking milk and eating mozarella sticks. Then I realised my own mistake when I started listening to my girlfriend who had gone from vegeterianism to veganism. I began to evaluate my own thinking, my health, the environment. Was the suffering and fear of a sentient, living being worth just sating my tastebuds for a few minutes? A piece of meat that is essentially, just spiced up to taste good? Was drinking milk, at the risk of ruining my health and skin, worth it because I can simply add it to cereal? I've been a vegan for almost a year now, I'm not preachy, but when people ask me if they can go vegan, I always tell them to try it for a week if they can. But the results for me were phenomenal... no more acne break outs (they were the worst for me) my health improved greatly, I felt healthier, more awake, more energised and I felt essentially, guilt free - and the best part? my friends are really supportive, they dont judge, they dont mock. So if you guys ever get a chance, give it a shot, if not for your health, for the environment, or for the animals, or for the people working non stop at slaughterhouses with very little rights,, or all those four reasons, it's your choice!
@@applebee6455 Humanity is the problem. You act as if Western society is the only society to every engage in expansion. Last I looked, Native Americans were fighting each other for ever, South American cultures were sacrificing humans on a large scale and conquering each other. Chinese Hans expanded their empire, and to this day the Communists still try to assimilate and destroy the cultures of the minorities in their country. Mongols had the largest empire ever! Africans have fought each other forever, same as the middle East.
your conscience as well as the internets general hatred towards vegans and lots of people latch on to that band wagon that vegans are annoying cunts. all we're preaching for is peace and equality, we don't deserve any hate
I also used to find vegans annoying before I went vegan myself just over a year ago. How times are changing and changing fast!! If someone said to me I would go vegan a few years ago when I was a happy meat and cheese eater, i would have said they were completely nuts.
I used to laugh at vegans and call them nutjobs and extremists. "I'd never go vegan!" I'd scoff over a cheese sandwich. Then whaddya know, I've been vegan eleven months and can honestly say that not only is it one of the best decisions I've ever made but I wish I'd done it sooner. You just don't know 'til you know.
NasIsLike You're not wrong there. I think we're most like chimps, who only have about 5% animal protein in their diet. The way most of us eat meat nowadays, in terms of processing and volume, is utterly absurd. You never know my friend, one day someone might say something that changes your mind completely. Happened to me. I think most vegans have said "I'd never go vegan/give up meat/cheese" at some point in their lives :) Stay open minded and you'll figure out what's right for you
Sweet. I'd recommend all new vegans to join a local vegan group for support and initial tips. And don't be afraid to ask for help, vegans are eager to help others transition to a cruelty free lifestyle : )
I watched Carnage and turned vegan the next day. Utter genius respect to Simon Amstell, brilliant message and sooo funny. Perfect example of great comedy
I saw this interview at latitude festival peering through the door and this kickstarted me to go vegan. Both of these men are inspirational and this sincere talk made the penny drop
Watched this film twice, first time as a vegetarian it made me laugh but somewhat uncomfortably because the egg and dairy stuff made me feel uncomfortable. Second time I watched it was the exact moment I turned fully vegan, thanks Simon!
I’ve been vegetarian for a few years now, since I was about 6 or something, and this film traumatised me into being fully vegan (I’d been vegan on and off for a year) so I’ve been vegan for a week now.
I've been Vegan 45 years there was 8 of us in college, my son is Vegan and is the only Vegan in his 1,500 strong school. We are eating 30 times more meat that we did back then... let's hope the time has finally come... and not just another false dawn.
Simon Amstell, You ought to be president of our planet. Your courage drives me to dare me to carefully dare to speak out. WOW! Simon, You Are Brilliant x x x
Hey Chap, there is a decent amount of vegan consideration around the town of Hay on Wye, next week, during their anual book festival. Fancy popping over to deliver some influence
If those same "annoying" animal rights people , instead, were talking about the wrongness of violence against humans, rape, murder etc., would they still be "annoying"?
Haha Simon, there’s totally a demand for this movie in Australia, but lots of network & internet restrictions make it tricky... hope you don’t mind us resorting to our old piratey ways for access ;)
It was a very strange film. The brief clips of slaughter took me quite by surprise given the tongue in cheek tone of the rest of it. One way of keeping you engaged I suppose, it's not a film you can watch complacently, it's very engaging. I think in the future, as veganism grows and eventually becomes the norm, as I believe it must given the challenges facing environment and health etc, it will be very interesting to revisit it and see which aspects of it came to be.
I know deep down what's going on, I've considered going vegan for a long time. That would take some inward reflection and I'm sure watching a film like this would probably do the trick... but honestly, I'm so fragile and depressed atm, I don't think I could handle the truth. If that makes any sense... I have some other addictions to deal with first too.
10 months on how do you feel? I used to eat about 500g of meat per day and I'll tell you the hardest part of going vegan was literally deciding to do it. It is so so so much easier than you think. And thinking about it, if you align your actions with your conscience you'll probably feel better than lying to yourself about the hell you're paying animals to go through. I know I did.
To anyone watching this considering becoming vegan; its way easier than it seems! It does take getting used to at first, I stopped and started a few times, but I've finally committed to it now and it's way easier than when I was drifting in and out and making excuses from lack of personal willpower. The main thing is just at home to make sure that you buy the right foods and make sure you still get enough nutrients like calcium, protein and iron. Also keep the diet varied otherwise you will fizzle out; its really easy to run out of ideas when you're used to relying on meat and dairy as meal staples but there's actually so much you can still eat, I genuinely don't miss them at all! Grab pizza bases from shops and throw the sauce and veggies/vegan cheese on, stir fries, roast vegetables with soy sauce and tofu, spagbol with fake mince, etc. The main challenge is finding good and substantial food outside, but there's always something, especially now with the growing popularity of veganism 😊 good luck guys ✨
Had to watch Carnage after watching a minute of this and seeing Simon Amstell doing something new. It's absolutely hilarious and thought-provoking satire.
haha, come back to me with that when you get cancer....1 out 2 people will get a cancer or heart diseass, its proven that vegans are much less likely to get either and will live 7 years longer on average. Check out Dr Greger`s channel and his book if you want o increase your chances of staying healthy. nutritionfacts.org/video/uprooting-the-leading-causes-of-death/
Theers plenty of evidence, Forks over knives film, lots of Drs now support a plant based diet. Do your own reasearch. www.who.int/features/qa/cancer-red-meat/en/ www.amazon.co.uk/How-Not-Die-Discover-scientifically/dp/1447282442/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492173272&sr=8-1&keywords=dr+greger+how+not+to+die half this book is full of references to evidence just for example Veganism isnt cool, who cares, thats so shallow, eating an animal body is cool and being `normal` is cool. Also being ill because of your diet is socially acceptable but thats crazy too. Veganism is so much bigger than diet alone, so lets stick to discussing a plant based diet.
Your world and my world always begins with I - What can I do to improve my health and at the same time improve the lives of other living beings that want to live, not live to die. We cant do anything But I can and You can if you so choose. There are lots of studies being done, and its not my job to do your research. Look them up yourself. In the meantime, Ill take my chance on probabilities of staying healthy as much as I can and encourage others to do the same.
for anybody else reading this - this guy deleted his commets soo Ive copied them back for reference as best as I can - Pierre Brassau replied: "It's not proven that red meat causes cancer."
Pierre Brassau replied: "+Conner Hughes You still haven't shown any study that links red meat directly with cancer. I know it's cool to be vegan, but stop spreading unfounded claims as they were truths. Sad to see a parent..."
I bought chicken nuggets before I watched the film... I'm finishing them now as I watch this. Great film though, might stop eating meat. Couldn't waste them
why support an industry that not only exploits animals for their body parts, but at the same destroys the planet, you know, this one planet we've got full of life, its not like theres a backup planet earth
There's no harm in taking it slow, adding new foods and taking away others a meal at a time. I took a few months to decide and transition, but now I'm vegan (11 months in) I love it so much I can't ever see myself going back (and wish I'd done it sooner!). If you haven't already seen them, I highly recommend watching Cowspiracy and Forks Over Knives (both on Netflix), and when it's a bit more widely available, What the Health. There's a film that really goes into the ethics called Earthlings and that's a tough watch, massive props to you if you manage to get through it (there's usually a version up on UA-cam somewhere). I'd be happy to answer any questions or point you in the direction of some of the resources I found helpful if you're curious :) All the best
Hannah I was vegetarian then I went back to eating meat , drs orders and I feel I was stupid to trust that doctor, lots of veg has more iron but I was ignorant at the time now I'm pro vegan I try to eat vegan as much as I can but on occasion I have dairy .I have a lot more energy now I juice too and have wheat grass and ginger and take turmeric supplements. I can't believe I was prescribed meat ugh ,
As a vegan I was trying to find some doco's for some non-vegan friends and came across this one, but prior to this I watched What the Health, and I truly believe if everyone watched that documentary they would ALL go vegan immediately.
I hands down have no problem eating meat if I had the opportunity or need too I wud happily butcher my own food farming is fairly barbaric but if I had my own hens or dairy cow why wud I feel bad about it
@@Deathhead68 its not personal its just cows are made out of beef and we need to eat, no one said life is all smiles and rainbows. somthing has to die so you can live
@@hovakio333 I used to think the same but we don't need to eat animals. Humans do not biologically require meat, all it's nutrients can be found elsewhere. It's no more necessary than wearing a fur coat, instead of a cotton one.
@@hovakio333 well as you've alluded too, we would stop breeding them for slaughter. They simply wouldn't exist in such vast quantities in the first place. Same with pigs chickens and everything else that makes up the 77 billion land animals killed every year for food. I think if you watch a documentary of how these animals live, you'd see they probably wouldn't be thanking us for their time on earth currently. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of wild animal species extinction and habitat loss, mostly due to growing food for cows to eat or graze on or for animals in factory farms. So we'd probably have a bit more balance restored to the natural world. It takes a lot more land food and resources to grow animals to eat than just eating plants directly.
Would not have watched anything about veganism without Amstell driving the literary vehicle. It still comes off as preachy, but I dont think its possible to do otherwise when drawing attention to one of societies greatest flaws. For anyone wanting to push a vegan lifestyle onto others, do not use the argument of negative moral agency. That is to say, do not tell people to not eat meat because it harms the animal, i dont think people respond to that message given the almost perputual human conflicts that we are shown in the mass media. I belive that focusing on the climate and the physical damage meat does on a indivudal basis should be stressed. People are more succestable to being told they are unhealthy and bad for society rather than being told to do no harm. This movie was watcahble, well worth the cost of production, i felt they could have done alot more, the interview style dragged on throughout which ends up being a little boring. I really hope Simon gets the freedom to do more through the BBC, hes got talent.
I want to become 100% vegetarian (now about 80% vegan, don't eat mammal meat. Try not to eat fish because of plastic pollution/contamination) but feel the protein from plants is inferior then poultry meat, dairy and eggs. Is thier really that much of a nutritional deficit?
Malik Rahman please do some reading, check out thought for food tv on UA-cam and their podcasts. Plant protein is far superior to animal protein, and way healthier. The health benefits of a plant based diet are remarkable.
Malik Rahman even big health organizations already said that a 100% vegetarian diet is healthy and safe for all ages :) it's in all their websites even. If you want very detailed info about it, check nutritionfacts.org. All you can imagine and more. If you want to see a great document about health food and pharmacy, watch "what the health". Came out this year and is truly amazing.
Is there a film that attempts to HONESTLY assess whether (exceptional circumstances aside e.g. Inuit or plane crash survivors or..) it is impossible to eat ethically without being vegan? Recommendations appreciated.
John, the thing is that nutrition science seems to be pointing towards a whole-food, plant-based diet as being the diet on which humans thrive the most. So as soon as you have access to a wide variety of plants (as probably most people in industrialised countries do) it becomes difficult from an ethical standpoint to justify eating animals and any of their excretions. I haven't seen a film that concludes with a list of ethical ways of eating animal-based products. Although I have watched Speciesism, which deals with the ethical aspect of animal agriculture, and I would recommend watching it.
Davegaeth Apparently not. "Eat 7 times more vegetables than meat: It's interesting because all the groups of people the author studied ate meat, dairy and animal products. Just like in the book “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration” Weston A. Price says in his exhaustive studies none of the world's healthiest people groups were vegetarian."
I wonder if all vegans see the world in the way this documentary portrays it. I found myself feeling horrified about the milk and the idea of chicken nuggets when I was watching this. And I don't see myself becoming vegetarian or vegan but I do want to improve animal welfare by stopping animal testing and reduce animal farming and use of animal products. not to mention protecting animal welfare by reducing littering, pollution and the destruction of animal habitats. I think this ideal could be achieved in small steps. If we deal with the above in one generation, maybe the next can think about stopping eating animal products
Hannah Montana small steps slow down the end goal. Welfarism makes people feel better about the holocaust which this impart on the animals. I'm saying you have to go vegan today, but bear in mind, your victims don't have time to wait for 'baby steps'.
I know, but thinking on a national level or even globally it will have to be baby steps because its just not realistic to expect this all to stop overnight. Thinking about farmers, butchers etc whose jobs rely on the meat industry, They would have to close down business, rehome all the animals, find other jobs etc. That cannot happen over night
Hannah Montana I'm a committed vegan but I really don't like the casual use of the word holocaust that I've seen bandied about by some activists. My family and many other Jews, not to mention Gypsy and Gays were murdered in what is arguably the worst crime ever committed by humanity. Comparing a deliberate and industrialised effort to eradicate an entire race to the farming industry is both inaccurate and offensive. It's also unnecessary to do as the way we treat animals is horrific on its own terms. But yeah, please check your language.
I agree. I think its a poor comparison. But the farming industry does need to be updated. I support anyone with a vegan lifestyle, and I think the world should follow more in suit, but I dont think we need to stop eating meat altogether. If we brought back meat and dairy rations, cutting down to eating meat only 4-5 days per week that would cut the greenhouse gas emissions by half, not to mention create more space and better living standards for the animals.
i was peckish and remembered my nanny had got me marks and spencer's hot and spicy chicken wings. yeno the ones in the round packaging ready to eat. i ended up eating all 12. It occurred to me that 6 chickens had to die for my snack. Doesn't seem right. still eat meat though. i try not to think about the animals.
I used to eat meat all the time mate, it's much easier than you think to stop and eat something else. Listen to your conscience, watch land of hope and glory or dominion, look at the hell they have to go through to get on your plate. Honestly just start small.
At the end of the day, less meat and/or no meat being eaten by more people is more meat eaten for those of us who eat meat! :D (If a country makes killing and eating meat illegal, I'd be very curious as to what happens to that country's environment, economy, population, jobs, etc.)
ia800100.us.archive.org/27/items/SimonAmstellCarnageP04sh6zgIplayer/Simon_Amstell_Carnage_-__p04sh6zg_iplayer.mp4 in inglese pero' ! ma è già qualcosa !!
So, halfway through Carnage, I literally felt nauseous and had to stop watching. So interesting.....my mind, and stomach, just can't process this sort of thing anymore, even in fictional sci-fi form. I am seriously nauseous. I also got a migraine. Whatever possessed me to watch this? I thought it would be funny, but they used actual footage of animals being shot, and raped, and abused....I just can't take it.....
Holy hell I hope you're trolling. Otherwise, holy hell, let's hope you're saving enough money for the therapy she'll need. I presume she's a "she". If she still breastfeeds at 12, she's probably an "it" who will choose its own gender when it turns 18.
I don't think I'll ever give up eating meat and dairy but I do agree that current practices in the industry are deplorable. I personally see the solution not in veganism but in a return to pre-industrial practices of animal husbandry and a vast reduction in the consumption of meat i.e. two or three meals a week rather than two or three meals a day. That way we can re-balance our diets and scale back inhumane and un-environmentally-friendly farming.
Saul Nine why do you feel like you can't give up animal flesh and breastmilk? Do you possibly feel some kind of emotional connection to consuming them?
what vegans don't seem to get is that just because you eat meat, it doesn't mean to say that you condone animal cruelty. I have lived on a smallholding farm my whole life with animals numbering passed 100, not once have I ever wanted any harm to come to them nor am I callous in the way I treat them, I would probably be accused of treating them too much like people! but at the end of the day humans are omnivorous animals evolved for an omnivorous diet, that's not to say you cant be healthy on a vegan/vegetarian diet, but it is vastly more difficult for a large portion of the population. studying this at university aswell a serious point was made that we simply don't have the space for he world to turn vegan so the whole premis of a vegan world is impossible, plants do not produce a high enough calorific content per unit of area to feed the worlds 7 billion people, not to mention the massive monocultures that would be created and the pressure that it would put on the worlds pedosphere (layer of soil around the earth) would be unbearable and lead to impossible growing conditions, the planet literally wouldn't be able to cope and we would have to cut through millions of acres of protected wild habitat and in the process wouldn't even get close to being able to producing viable sustenance for the worlds population not to mention with the appropriate nutrients. also at what cost? what do you say the the sahara farmer whose herd of goats/cattle is his livelihood and food? you tell him never mistreat those animals and that they should enjoy a happy life with as little discomfort as is possible, yes the meat industry is massively flawed yes something should be done, but the pressure should be put on them to be humane. converting to veganism is fine for a middle class guy from England, and good on him, a very respectful life choice, but guilt tripping an entire population rather than focussing on the issue itself and rallying support and pressuring companies by not succumbing to cheaper non humanely guaranteed products is the way forward
There is something ridiculously surreal about your entire comment.... "just because you eat meat, it doesn't mean to say that you condone animal cruelty" this is like saying 'just because I beat my wife, doesn't mean I condone violence towards women'..... don't you recognize the inherent hypocrisy there? "not once have I ever wanted any harm to come to them" but you do, because you end up killing them. "nor am I callous in the way I treat them" I don't know about you but it seems rather callous to have someone killed so you can eat them, especially when you don't have to do so.... They get to know you, they trust you, and then you betray them. "I would probably be accused of treating them too much like people" do you kill and eat people?... Are you in the habit of tricking people into believing you're their friend, only to kidnap them and kill and eat them in the end? "humans are omnivorous animals evolved for an omnivorous diet" debatable. legacyofpythagoras.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/obligate-comparison-01.jpg Although, even if we ARE omnivores, we are not OBLIGATE omnivores meaning, we can easily thrive and be healthy with no animal products. "we simply don't have the space for he world to turn vegan" this is misinformation at its finest. Today, only 55 percent of the world's crop calories feed people directly; the rest are fed to livestock. 26 percent of the earth's terrestrial surface is used for livestock grazing. One-third of the planet's arable land is occupied by livestock feed crop cultivation. I am amazed you heard your misinformation at a university although I shouldn't be too surprised as school is a state sponsored manufacturer of echoes. Please, do research on this yourself and don't just automatically swallow up everything you're being taught. You're being lied to. www.cowspiracy.com/facts/ Let's not worry about the Sahara farmers and what they are doing. You're trying to pick the absolute worst, hardest case scenario as justification for the people who live in the West and have access to all the produce they could wish for, from the shop. If we in the "first world" go vegan (because we are totally in a position to do so) then that would resolve many of the worlds environmental issues, as well as prevent billions of animals from suffering. "guilt tripping an entire population"... the guilt people feel when they're actually faced with the truth of what they are doing, should be acknowledged as real. There is a REASON they feel guilty. And that feeling should not be swept aside and justified with lies and foolishly hypocritical claims of so-called "humane" farming practices..... How could it ever be humane to raise, and care for an animal, only to kill it and eat its flesh, when it was never necessary to do so in the first place? What a wacky world we live in... the cognitive dissonance is so strong.
meat smells good when you cook it, thats how you know you're supposed to eat it, you get that primal instinct deep inside your core, that tells you if you wanna survive, you better fucking eat this delicious treat
Carnage was so sarcastic it seems like they genuinely hate Veganism but if it's honestly just a joke then I support it. Watch it anyway and make your own opinion! There are many good points in it but it simply seems they are mocking people because they aren't abusing animals...
I laughed, I liked it, it felt preachy but made some good points. The assumption that meat is unhealthy is utter bullshit though. I used to be in a wheelchair and went through rehabilitation. The diet I needed to build my wasting muscles was literally egg whites, lean chicken and fish. It feels in bad taste to campaign for animal rights when it would put disabled people like me in the shit. That's the thing that's always bothered me about the vegan/vegetarian point of view. Animal suffering genuinely makes me sick but they seem to always prioritise animal rights above human wellbeing. And every time I hear the airwaves filled with a veganism debate I wonder why the time is not being used to champion disabled rights. Or debate child labour, domestic abuse, sexual assualt...
I understand your own health takes priority, but what was about eggs, chicken, and fish that you could not get from plant based sources? And in your case, perhaps we could advocate eating meat medicinally, but not strictly for our carnist tastebuds as it is destroying our planet and cruelly harming billion of animals unnecessarily. The reason vegans don't debate those other topics you mentioned because veganism is such a huge cause in and of itself and one that everyone participates in every day with what they eat and how they spend their dollars. That doesn't devalue those other major issues, it's just that the scope of veganism is already a daunting task. But ask yourself this, with so much abuse to animals, sexually and physically commonly accepted in our culture, do you not think they might also perpetuate some of these others you mention such as domestic abuse and sexual assault?
There is nothing about veganism that requires we stop talking about domestic abuse or disabled rights. All causes that promote the end of suffering and exploitation are worthwhile, and no one says you have to pick only one. Incidentally, animal agriculture is also a serious human rights issue: slaughterhouse workers suffer some of the highest rates of depression and drug and alcohol abuse out of every workforce, they tend to be low paid, undocumented workers with few rights, they also suffer some of the highest rates of workplace injury with limited access to compensation (because of their aforementioned lack of rights). Also, intensive animal farms pollute their local environments with untreated animal waste, which is often sprayed into the air to fertilise feed crops. This mist causes elevated rates of illnesses such as asthma and cancer in local communities. The people who live in these communities, in the US at least, tend to be low income, black, and hispanic. It's easier to establish a polluting industry in a low income neighbourhood because the population lacks the necessary political representation to fight it. What's more, intensive animal farming increases the virulence and prevalence of avian and swine 'flu. and increases the likelihood of a cross species 'flu epidemic in humans. Animal agriculture is one of the most polluting industries on the planet, ruining our environment for all of us. Also, Increasing numbers of studies are being published that implicate the consumption of animal foods in human illness. Processed meats, for example, are now classified as a group one carcinogen alongside smoking and asbestos, yet we continue to feed these foods to ourselves and our children without being warned by our governments or by the manufacturers. I could really go on and on but I won't do that to the both of us! My point is, veganism does seeks to end the exploitation, suffering, and unnecessary slaughter of animal, true, but it also seeks to abolish some of the most dangerous, polluting, and exploitative (of humans) industries on the planet. Plants have all the necessary proteins and nutrients that a human body needs (apart from B12, which comes from soil, not animals, and most 'meat' animals are themselves supplemented). I don't know your exact circumstances and won't presume to know what's best for you, but I assure you that no vegan wants you to suffer. Your diet is a matter of concern for you, your conscience, and your physician, and I wish you all the best in living a strong and healthy life.
Callum Raybould because there are not 7 billion child abusers....👀. And the difference is Vegans on the hole dont defend a lack of rights for disabled people whereby the majority of the planet openly and willingly abuse animals on a daily basis. Also plant based protein would have given you the protein needed to restore your muscles, but would have been filled with even more nutrients. The Science proves that completely now.
See I like Simon there is just one thing I don't like which is he doxes farmers so vegans without anything better to do go and harras the farmers that are just doing there jobs
All the comments that say "I used to think vegans were really annoying until I became a vegan..." No... vegans are still incredibly annoying. And preachy. And self-righteous. You just can't see it because you're now equally annoying--it's like a smoker who becomes immune to the fact they stink. I feel no guilt eating meat or fish. And it's tasty. So very, very tasty. A filet mignon oscar style--it's like an orgasm in the mouth. Not sure anyone can get that excited about quinoa. I'll happily eat vegetarian (even occasionally vegan) food, but as good as quinoa can be, it's still quinoa.
BFI I'm a happy meat eater, though. I'd be pretty pissed off. Not to mention it'd kill my mother. Bless her, she tried to go vegetarian, but her health wouldn't allow it.
It's a shame she didn't try a properly planned whole food vegan diet. Easily provides every essential nutrient, just have to eat a lot more, a good problem for anyone that likes food. Maybe the bovine hormones in milk was messing with her human hormones?
as Lewis Black once said, "if it doesnt come out of a tit it isnt milk, its juice." Almond, coconut, whatever, those are juice. I dont like them called "milk" because it gives them a false legitimacy. Humans require protein. Yes, we treat animals abysmally and that needs to change but we're still going to need protein from somewhere. A vegan diet is inherently unhealthy unless you are rich enough to import all of the types of foods required to keep you healthy. Very few people can afford that.
humans require lower amounts of protein than industry likes us to believe. Protein is found in good quantities in beans and lentils, some of the cheapest food sources on our planet. A vegan diet can be a lot cheaper than an omni one. A vegan diet is not inherently unhealthy. It is the only diet known to reverse heart disease, the BIGGEST killer of humans.
"Humans require protein. Yes, we treat animals abysmally and that needs to change but we're still going to need protein from somewhere." Protein myth detected. Seriously mate, look at some research post 1930.
I'm all for stopping gassing chicks, and stuffing 10 chickens in a small cage, and testing weird products on animals, and abuse of pets, and all that, but I don't think there is anything wrong with eating meat, or milk, or eggs. I'm also against hunting if you don't plan on eating the animal, if you are just killing animals for fun that's fucked up, and I am also disgusted to watch the process of slaughter, or see dead animals, and all that. . I think there is a big misconception in a lot of vegans that regular people want to cause harm to animals, that we want to bathe in their blood. No, we really really don't, I don't' have little kitten because I want it to suffer, or even because I plan on eating it, he's just a funny little guy to have around. I would have gotten a pet cow if they didn't take such gargantuan shits, or alternatively a rabbit if they didn't leave pellets everywhere. The closest I will get to vegan is empathizing with certain cultures making certain animals sacred, like a cow, because of how much they provide for us. I don't think it would hurt for everyone to have their own little garden either.
Paul Thoresen why do you thing those practices are wrong? Also, to have a omnivorous diet worldwide, those practices are the only that can provide to everyone. That's why it is how it is... Also, vegans don't think non vegans want to harm animals. The reason why vegans try to talk to other people, is because they know they don't agree with animal cruelty and that they actually have the same compassion for animals. But most people are uninformed or just never really thought about it deeply or were never challenged about the consequences of their actions and decisions. Most vegans weren't vegans before, so we do get that people don't want to hurt animals. That's why we want people to make the connection between those pets who you love and other animals. Also, have you thought about cows being sacred because what they provide us? That's like worshipping an object. Because that's what animals have become to us. Just objects to satisfy our wishes. If you consider anyone sacred or loved or anything similar, you would give respect and maybe even love. Not abuse and exploitation.
I eat meat and it was brilliant from start to finish. If it was a longer length i would criticise it for avoiding the topics of feral animals, insects, roadkill, permaculture, Aboriginal agriculture (Australian) and hunting etc. But it didn't have time for this, and the settings of human made environments, with selected barn yard animals romping around, was surreal enough and maybe making a statement about human engineered environments and animals. Although i feel it should have made some time for water...
If you want to be vegan, watch a Gary Yourofsky video!
You're funny allowing a comedy to affect you!🤣🤣
@@dommidavros2211 comedy can make people think. A lot of the stuff in it is actually true.
I know many people that were impacted by Carnage
It’s because Simon approached it in a very unique way, a zoom out of time to a larger scope of human social attitudes. How we see history, is how the future will see us and it’s a very powerful thing! Could have won an Oscar if I’m honest.
Animal rights, not animal welfare ;)
obviously the reason behind vegans being "preachy" is impatience, when someone knows of a horrific injustice going on they tend to want it to be solved as quick as possible.
I agree, also frustration. Frustration with others who refuse to see the reality of their actions.
Yeah, being preachy doesn't mean we're wrong! lol
"injustice"?
John Stratus the way other animals are treated is unjust
My friend sent me a text saying she needs help choosing a non-dairy milk after watching this. Well done , Simon. Does the job without all the telling off.
What did you recommend? c: Almond milk is my favourite.
Almond milk is not very sustainable. Hemp milk, on the other hand really is. In fact hemp is just brilliant - you can do everything with it.
No such thing.
The Vicious Chicken of Bristol Pfft, says a SNES man.
Stalker!
Hats off to Simon Amstell. I completely agree with his conclusion - it will get awkward for people who continue to eat other animals. Veganism will become the new norm sooner than we think.
Adam Craig why are you laughing? He's right...it will become "awkward" very soon.
Adam Waterhouse They will stop eating meat when they stop believing in myths.
Adam Craig I agree, that's like saying it will become a drug-free, smoke-free, war-free, sex slave-free WORLD pretty soon. Gun-free, violence-free, pollutant-free soon. People are moving forward, but the time frame is a bit longer than anticipated.
Adam Waterhouse And Jesus will be returning soon... Same arguement from inside a bubble.
PJ B Yeah, all these obese kids eating burgers and cheese are so healthy. And it's vegans that are filling up all our hospitals...right...???
Thanks, but I would rather have a burger...

You cannot be 100% guilt free. You live in a Western Society. What about all the lands pillaged for your comfort.

Making this available to everyone via UA-cam and being free is a wonderful wonderful gift. Thank you!
it is on youtube
I wish it was on Neflix right now!!
this film helped me make the first step to vegetarianism. well played Amstell.
James Woollard You won't regret it, I enjoy food far more now than I used to when I ate meat - eating meat now feels like eating shoes.
Loving it so far, I feel lighter on my feet and have a clearer consience! Finally learning to forage for and cook real food!
+James Woollard wait till you're vegan, you'll feel like a superhuman
dont forget you b12 though
Thank you, I probably should remember that!
I used to find vegans annoying, but that was just my conscience pricking me. I wonder if that's the case for all of the angry carnists?
your conscience as well as the internets general hatred towards vegans and lots of people latch on to that band wagon that vegans are annoying cunts. all we're preaching for is peace and equality, we don't deserve any hate
I also used to find vegans annoying before I went vegan myself just over a year ago. How times are changing and changing fast!! If someone said to me I would go vegan a few years ago when I was a happy meat and cheese eater, i would have said they were completely nuts.
same here. going vegan was the best decision of my life. Carnists are so closet angry lol
I think most vegans have said "I'd never go vegan/give up meat/cheese" at some point in their lives :) Stay open minded and you'll figure out what's right for you
This helped me finally decide to become a vegan. Cheers Simon
Sweet. I'd recommend all new vegans to join a local vegan group for support and initial tips. And don't be afraid to ask for help, vegans are eager to help others transition to a cruelty free lifestyle : )
it's an awakening, not an agenda...

I watched Carnage and turned vegan the next day. Utter genius respect to Simon Amstell, brilliant message and sooo funny. Perfect example of great comedy
Excellent, thank you. Both for this interview and for the film. Thank you again, many, many times over.
It's such a pity it's not available outside the UK. I'd gladly pay to watch it, but not even that is possible.
I saw this interview at latitude festival peering through the door and this kickstarted me to go vegan. Both of these men are inspirational and this sincere talk made the penny drop
That's fantastic! Us too!
Loved the movie, imagine most here have watched. But if not, please do. Very good.
Eric Thompson where can I watch it? do I need to live in the UK? or is it somewhere on YT? I didn't quite catch the name of the film :/
Simon Amstell: Carnage, watch it on bbc iplayer, might need to use something like windscribe if you're not in the UK

great interview, wanna watch now!
I was vegan but went full carnivore for my health, never felt better :)
Gojiman's sunburn
Enjoy, if you can. Though your risk of cancer and heart disease has just increased.
(We’ll just ignore the ethical issues).
This film literally changed my life. Thank you Simon x
I went vegan overnight after watching this. I watched it in the evening and I was vegan in the morning.
how is it going?
Are you still Vegan now?
I love Simon's voice I wish I had a GPS with his voice giving out the directions haha
Simon Amstell, You ought to be president of our planet. Your courage drives me to dare me to carefully dare to speak out.
WOW! Simon, You Are Brilliant x x x
haven't seen Amstell in ages. He's almost got this Chris Morris look going on. It's cool.
I'd love to hear this. I mean I'd really love to HEAR this!
Great job on sound guys, so clear & such a perfect volume, nice 1
Carnage was interesting but also hilarious. Vet good.
Hey Chap, there is a decent amount of vegan consideration around the town of Hay on Wye, next week, during their anual book festival.
Fancy popping over to deliver some influence
Just watched this film, and that bit about the fuckable monk had me in tears.
Love this guy! Where do I go to watch this mockumentary?
I can't moan about two of my favourite people talking about a film that I loved.
The main challenge is finding good and substantial food outside, but there's always something, especially now with the growing popularity of veganism 😊 good luck guys ✨
great work!!
great ! very informative.
Had to watch Carnage after watching a minute of this and seeing Simon Amstell doing something new. It's absolutely hilarious and thought-provoking satire.
It's a bit like Simon's interview with Tim Key but not ironic
We need the Cow's full musical just called "Cows".
I think it should be called "Mooo"
Would love to watch this in the USA
Love love love this film, Ive now discovered Im now not a vegan, your`re a carnist
haha, come back to me with that when you get cancer....1 out 2 people will get a cancer or heart diseass, its proven that vegans are much less likely to get either and will live 7 years longer on average.
In the meantime, Ill take my chance on probabilities of staying healthy as much as I can and encourage others to do the same.
for anybody else reading this - this guy deleted his commets soo Ive copied them back for reference as best as I can -
Pierre Brassau replied: "It's not proven that red meat causes cancer."
Pierre Brassau replied: "+Conner Hughes You still haven't shown any study that links red meat directly with cancer. I know it's cool to be vegan, but stop spreading unfounded claims as they were truths. Sad to see a parent..."
Oh god, I just love Simon Amstellll
I bought chicken nuggets before I watched the film... I'm finishing them now as I watch this. Great film though, might stop eating meat. Couldn't waste them
I'm more than happy to help you make the transition. You're in for a real treat!
why support an industry that not only exploits animals for their body parts, but at the same destroys the planet, you know, this one planet we've got full of life, its not like theres a backup planet earth

A tribunal for meat eaters. That's a good premise for an episode of Black Mirror.
I hands down have no problem eating meat if I had the opportunity or need too I wud happily butcher my own food farming is fairly barbaric but if I had my own hens or dairy cow why wud I feel bad about it
Do you think animal cruelty is morally wrong in your view?
@@Deathhead68 its not personal its just cows are made out of beef and we need to eat, no one said life is all smiles and rainbows. somthing has to die so you can live
@@hovakio333 I used to think the same but we don't need to eat animals. Humans do not biologically require meat, all it's nutrients can be found elsewhere. It's no more necessary than wearing a fur coat, instead of a cotton one.
@@Deathhead68 I think ur missing the point, if say we all eat vegetables only were do all the cows go? And what would they eat?
I love the fact that you love animals . I love animals. If you want people to stop eating animals, can I eat you ?
Malik Rahman yes. veganism ain't healthy.
Kris Vickers it's the healthiest way to eat known
Is there a film that attempts to HONESTLY assess whether (exceptional circumstances aside e.g. Inuit or plane crash survivors or..) it is impossible to eat ethically without being vegan? Recommendations appreciated.
John Alcock you could be like a vulture and eat animals that died on their own or were killed by other animals
Elijah Peppers ????
John, the thing is that nutrition science seems to be pointing towards a whole-food, plant-based diet as being the diet on which humans thrive the most. So as soon as you have access to a wide variety of plants (as probably most people in industrialised countries do) it becomes difficult from an ethical standpoint to justify eating animals and any of their excretions. I haven't seen a film that concludes with a list of ethical ways of eating animal-based products. Although I have watched Speciesism, which deals with the ethical aspect of animal agriculture, and I would recommend watching it.
John Alcock I misread the comment lol
Davegaeth Apparently not. "Eat 7 times more vegetables than meat: It's interesting because all the groups of people the author studied ate meat, dairy and animal products. Just like in the book “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration” Weston A. Price says in his exhaustive studies none of the world's healthiest people groups were vegetarian."
NEXT: Vegan Tigers
Great interview, he’s so cute haha
i was peckish and remembered my nanny had got me marks and spencer's hot and spicy chicken wings. yeno the ones in the round packaging ready to eat. i ended up eating all 12.

Look BBC! You cancelled Buzzcocks and now poor Simon has turned into Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.
HFW isnt vegan
Did you even watch the movie?

"humans are omnivorous animals evolved for an omnivorous diet" debatable. legacyofpythagoras.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/obligate-comparison-01.jpg
Although, even if we ARE omnivores, we are not OBLIGATE omnivores meaning, we can easily thrive and be healthy with no animal products.
You're being lied to. www.cowspiracy.com/facts/
Let's not worry about the Sahara farmers and what they are doing.
Your entire argument relies on you to explain why killing and eating animals is morally wrong, which you can't...
Lol so many flaws in your comment. 'Not enough land to go vegan' What do we feed animals? Hmmm 🤔...
meat smells good when you cook it, thats how you know you're supposed to eat it, you get that primal instinct deep inside your core, that tells you if you wanna survive, you better fucking eat this delicious treat
4:10-4:15 ... Why do they both suddenly turn Australian?
So because you view one issue as less important as the others it shouldn't be challenged at all?
Hannah your response is top. also we get b12 from yeast :)
This movie made me go out and buy a baconator.
See I like Simon there is just one thing I don't like which is he doxes farmers so vegans without anything better to do go and harras the farmers that are just doing there jobs
I ate two burgers after watching this movie.
I'll happily eat vegetarian (even occasionally vegan) food, but as good as quinoa can be, it's still quinoa.
this is just a random Chinese comment please don't mind me:
他露额头不太好看,每当我看见一个腐国男演员的发际线都不由自主地担心...
270 people died of starvation while you watched this...... vegan or not
Love love love the movie
Sorry Amstell, but vegans will never overtake the meat market. Film sounds funny, though.
It's a great pity that this may be the case, but we can only hope it changes. Hope you manage to see the film soon.
Maybe the bovine hormones in milk was messing with her human hormones?
bennygreen1 um, what? No, she has a history of anemia. And thyroid problems.
What kind of bizarre milk have you been drinking
I don't drink any milk because I'm not an infant. Lot's of people have success curing anemia and hyperthyroidism with a vegan diet.
as Lewis Black once said, "if it doesnt come out of a tit it isnt milk, its juice." Almond, coconut, whatever, those are juice.
Yes, we treat animals abysmally and that needs to change but we're still going to need protein from somewhere."
Protein myth detected.
0:25 "Preachy, annoying and superior", 11 seconds later he's preachy, annoying and superior.
I wouldn't label vegans as superior, I was just focusing on what Simon Amstell said.
I don't feel superior to others. That's what makes me superior to those idiots who feel superior to others :)
This film is absolute garbage, Simon Amstel should stick to being not funny on panel shows on tv. Blugh!
This film's going to be so shit.
Jesus Christ Superstore yet its brilliant.
Yes. Yes, it was definitely brilliant.
Although i feel it should have made some time for water...
ready to go vegan?! I'm happy to help!
